Always do a test on a smaller section first, to see how it turns out, before going big, especially with a new process. For this application I use a water based stain, and remove excess with a damp sponge, this leaves the wood pattern very visible, and evens out the color.
@@the_hate_inside1085 yes makes sense. I did apply it on the steps first and it turned out well there, but I think they were sanded more thoroughly and therefore got a more even finish. But hey, now I know for next time 😊
Just a quick tip: Always use some form of mask or respirator while sanding. You only have one pair of lungs and the wood dust can be very harmful, especially indoors or without any proper ventilation. Also the finish turned out quite well for the first time!

I didn't do it because I would hate the work even more 😅 and I know every excuse is a bad one but luckily you can weigh the pros and cons when it's your own project. You might want to store your wood 🪵 logs ,outside the house. You will have some unwanted bug 🐛 friends inside from the logs , ants 🐜, bugs 🐛 ect . If you have a waterproof shed or barn 😊👍 store wood 🪵 there 👍
Why are traditional houses in Sweden painted red? I'm just new here in the channel. I come from the Far East where we have no snow. Just rainy and dry seasons.
In the 17th century in Sweden, the mining for iron ore became large scale and a by-product from this mining is a red coulor pigment. It was first used by rich people 400 years ago who painted their houses red in order to mimic brick houses. Brick houses were high fashion then (baroque), but very expensive and hard to come by in Sweden. So they painted their wooden houses red instead. In time ordinary people started to do the same and it eventually became a tradition, also due to the fact that this colour pigment was and still is easy obtainable. It also makes the long grey and white winter a bit happier with red houses. 😊 Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

I think.😉 Would like to read a bit about you but can't see anything about where you come from in the world. And I am looking for properties in Sweden myself, but how difficult it is as I want to be sure that they do not destroy nature with wind turbines etc. Here, where I have lived for 11 years down to the North Sea and nature reserve, everything has been destroyed by industry, Large gravel pit and Wind turbines, among the world's largest, have come up in front of my plot 1500 meters from the house. It makes noise and sounds like a jet engine.. Have tinnitus for the last 4 years and never have peace. Moved here after I got sick and wanted to live in peace and my beloved nature like forests and the sea. Everything is destroyed. Therefore, I am very careful and examine everything. You have a large plot of land around your property and there is a lot to look after. But wow what a place. I think the stairs turned out beautiful and a lot of work to get them looking good. Because it is true as you say that everything turns yellow and ugly with time. That should last well. I did it to my ceilings and they are just as beautiful after 11 years.
