This is a great video! Somehow, I ended up with 2 of these CG Flying Geese tools a few years ago and I’ve never used one! I’m excited to give this a try tomorrow, and I’m going to give my sister-in-law the duplicate tool and show her this video. Thanks for all the educational videos you make! Shabby Fabrics is the best!

Thank you for the great video. I have an oliso iron. I find it to be heavy and a pain, gets very hot. You use the panasonic iron. Would you recommend it? I've heard different feelings about it.
Hi Corinne glad you liked this tutorial! We also have Oliso Iron TG1600 Pro Plus that we use. You can view our Panasonic Iron collection here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/search?sortOrder=6&q=panasonic+iron Hope this helps! - Abby
I have this tool and use it all the time. It is indeed a game changer for me. But sometimes I don't need 4 identical flying geese. Is there any way to make just 2?
Hi Pat - The simplest answer would be to just use half of the large square (cut on the diagonal) and only make 2 of the smaller squares instead of 4. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics great idea. I'll try it
The Starry Blossoms quilt kit calls for this tool but the flying geese need to be trimmed to 3 1/2. X 6 1/2. How do I do that when those measurements are not on this tool?
Hi Linda - On page 3 of the Starry Blossoms instructions, there is a section explaining which finished size on the Ultimate Flying Geese Tool to use. After you follow Step 1 & Step 2 on that page, you can use a regular ruler to trim to the 3.5" x 6.5" size, if you prefer. Once the flying geese block has been sewn into the quilt top with a 1/4" seam allowance, the finished size of this block should measure 3" x 6". Hope this helps :) -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics Thank you. I thought Finished Size on the ruler meant the CUT Finished Size not the SEWN finished size.
This looks like a great tool. Can it be used for a size on listed? I have flying gees to make that are 1 7/8 X 3 1/4". How would I adjuste it to use for these blocks. Thank you.
This is a great tool! Happy that you like it. Since this ruler was designed with specific sizes, we are unsure of how to scale the measurements to meet your finished block requirement. You may just have to create your Flying Geese with the traditional method. - Abby
Hi Jen, what sewing machine do you use?
Thank you, Michelle from Virginia
Hi Michelle - We’re sewing on the Bernina 770 QE! Thanks for watching! -Michelle
I wish you could show us how to do a different size flying geese piece of a size that requires using two different parts of the ruler. I am having trouble with the February table runner and the flying geese in it. The assembly pieces as specified in the February pattern are not very big to begin with and I can't seem to find the right measurements on the Creative Grid ruler to pare it down.
Hi beanjean60 - Jen demonstrates in the February Pint Size Tutorial how to use the Ultimate Flying Geese Tool for the flying geese around minute 10: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/460 Please let me know if you've found this helpful :) -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics THANK YOU SO MUCH. I don't know how I missed the reference to C in the video. Thank you again.
I thought I could math this to work. hahahaha. nope. Its ok to rely on tools. Turntable and goose trim tool look like a good investment to keep mental health happy AND produce pretty geese for a whole BIG quilt.
This is such a great tool to own! Makes beautiful quilts! You will love it and thank you for your comment! - Abby
