When it comes to building muscle after 40 there are 5 tips I recommend to all of my clients... And I break all 5 down in this brand new video. If your goal is to pack on more muscle and size then you won't want to ignore these.
As a “Older Dude” I have for many years mainly used cycling as my exercise, I have switched it up and I’m doing mainly at home workout with free weights.,With some days cardio “cycling/running “, You just made a great Point about adding more weight to our workout. This makes sense.Thank you so sir.
Statistical analysis has shown anything involving resistance training is great for at least keeping muscle mass as you age. Endurance work is actually WORSE for you than doing nothing at all, regarding muscle mass. IMO that stuff is over for those of us who want to be able to get off the toilet on our own when we're 80.
I'm finally seeing some results. I've paid attention to my diet and have made some changes (not that it was bad before, just needed tweeking), and I've made some adjustments to my workouts. Thanks for all the advice and info...keep it coming.
Hi Gary. If I work my shoulders they never tend to get sore a day or so afterwards. I do my sets and the reps does fatigue the shoulders at the end of the set. Are they being worked enough? Thanks. God bless you too.
Grary buenos días tengo 61 años y vivo en Perú. Los sigo hace varios meses y su recomendaciónes y ejercicios son muy buenos. Es posible colocar su títulos en español?
Very well said sir about this topic and keep it up and keep training hard and be strong always sir and stay safe and stay healthy and be positive and happy always sir
What do you do as far as both caloric intake goes, as well as type of workout, if you're over 40 (61) and your GOALS are to both lose a LOT of bodyfat (70 lbs after already having lost 130 lbs but you've hit a plateau); and also want to put on more muscle? Where losing the fat is your 1st goal, but still want to put on muscle; and don't want to wait forever to achieve either.
Hi, I work with weights in my home gym and that I can not add more as I cannot purchase more weights. Can I increase the repeatetion to get the same benefit of increasing weight. I dont want to go to gym. Hope Iam clear.
More reps, different angles, slower reps, different exercises for same muscle groups every few weeks. Just keep the muscle groups guessing change up periodically..
Gary, you and your wife should do an entire hour video of just a prep of the foods you eat for two weeks for nutrition for 40+ men/women. Seeing "real world" meals and how you go about preparing them will educate so many novices of what they need to do to change their eating habits for their health. It's 80% of the change they are going to need for any of this to stick long term.
Hey Gary 👋 I love your videos, I’ve been following you guys for a good while now and always enjoy your videos , I’m 52 years old and vegan , at the moment I can only fit in 3 training sessions a week due to work etc , but I fit in an hour or just over and include as many compound movements as I can . Would you advise doing arms, shoulders , chest one day and legs , back , core another ? At the moment I’m trying to do full body every session to get as much in as I can lol but sometimes I feel I’m gonna die . Sorry for the long question and keep the awesome advice coming 👍
You can do full body 3x's per week, or you can do like a 4 day split, but that same 3x's per week. For example you usually would do Mon/Tues and Thurs/Fri on a 4 day split. Stretch that out to Mon (on 4 day split) = Mon, Tues (on 4 day split) = Wed, and Thurs (on 4 day split) = Fri. There's your 3 days per week. You then rest the weekend and pick the new week up with Fri (on 4 day split) Mon. Some intermediate trainers say this works really well for not having to ever take a deload. I think it's something many haven't caught on to yet.
Great vid as usual. Getting enough protein is a big one for me. Who can eat meat, fish & eggs every day? I've been using a calorie counter to track my macro intake. There's no way I get close to enough protein without having at least 1 protein shake per day.
I agree, I'm 55 I have lifted all my life I'm in decent shape but I look nowhere near the muscle build of these guys, my diet is clean and my workouts are moderate to heavy intensity I'm completely natural no extras my body simply doesn't respond even with muscle memory

Awesome video, Gary! Very informative as always. Appreciate you man!
great info. have you done one for over 50? thanks
4 or 5 times per week for weight training? If you hit the same muscle group very hard each time, I don't think this allows enough recovery time.
Great info, thanks.
Thanks for you video !

@@darranjsamuel3063 You're welcome. Just glad you understood it. It looked confusing when I wrote it but I couldn't make it more simple.
