    You outdid yourself. These were the best videos I ever saw of you. Probably the best from any of the comics channels I follow. Great footage of the NYCC, so nice to see you talking to the artists and great pick-ups, the 3 Wings absolutely the best. Great that you show some inside stuff of the comics and the artwork books you bought, too many people only care about the cover. You really made my day with these impressions of the NYCC!

    Amazing...when I was a kid in the late 70's and early 80's that Werewolf comic would have been found in a grab bag at any comic shop for 50 cents!

    Love the Art Adams stuff. It's hard to believe that the only reason he got to do Longshot is because no one else wanted to illustrate it.
    Thanks for the video. All that old Archie stuff is awesome :)

    The BLACKHAWK comic out sold BATMAN comics in Nineteen Sixty FLASH comic.cover artwork by JOE KUBERT, And cover artwork in WINGS was done by LEE ELLIAS during his good girl artwork period. Like his BLACK CAT artwork.

    Do you ever plan on inputting all your comics into CLZ or another format so you never buy duplicates? I used to have the same problem but eventually I took time to input them

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  10 месяцев назад

      I have so many and the process to input them all is so slow that I don't think I will ever do it. The main Golden Age runs I am working on I have in an excel file which is quick and easy and lets me keep track of the runs I want to work on. For everything else if I got a duplicate I probably paid a good price on it so I can resell them for a profit so I am not too worried about it.

    Everytime i see the name “Mark Brooks” i remember he attacked half of comic fandom for four years on Twitter/ X for political reasons. This will never go away anymore.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  10 месяцев назад +1

      I had to look it up because I was not really paying attention. If he was upset because a lot of fans where demanding that he did free art for them etc I can understand his point of view, I feel a lot of artists have their time devalued by people, I have seen that myself many times. He also seemed to be upset over fandom being very toxic, Which I feel happens a lot lately. Heck I see it myself pretty often. I don't see any Political reasons though, maybe you can point me in that direction.

    Just an opinion but Variant covers is killing the hobby. Shouldn't every collector have an opportunity to buy a comic and not only the few?

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  10 месяцев назад +1

      I disagree. The Variants bring more collectors in, the inside of the comic is the same as the normal releases so every one has a chance to buy the comic read it and enjoy it, and then if there are a few people that want a more collectible limited version with unique art then they can buy the variant. The comic market is just not big enough more to be a consumable so it needs collectible comics. Comics that are mass produced for consumption but are kept like collectibles never become collectible. Because of that there has to be limited comics to keep the market turning. Variants also mean more work for more Comic artists and I am all for that. The more work that gets commissioned the better it is. I would say poor writing is hurting the Marvel and DC world, but comics are doing very well right now. But most of the money being spent on comics is on Manga, younger folks buy and read Manga way more then american comics.

    • @hungpham9566
      @hungpham9566 10 месяцев назад

      @@pop-comics but all of the golden age and silver age books were mass produce for consumption and are now valuable.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes back then they were consumables not collectibles so 99% of them were read to death and thrown out. So now there is only 100s or maybe a few thousand left of each golden age book which makes them very collectible. Today people treat comics as collectibles so most of them get preserved with bags and boards, if read, usually carefully. So the numbers do not dwindle because very few get destroyed. There is a reason why 1980s Cereal boxes can also sell for $100s. Because almost all of them where destroyed. For things to become super valuable and collectible they need to be popular with kids so a lot of them sold and a lot of nostalgia builds up for them. Then they need to be destroyed through use and not many kept mint. Then 10-20 years later when the kids grow up and the nostalgia is strong, the few remaining items will be highly collectible and pricey. So mass produced modern comics that get kept in prestine condition will not be collectible because the supply will always be high. Where as low print run comics will be collectible because the supply is low even if all of them are kept in prestine shape.

    • @hungpham9566
      @hungpham9566 10 месяцев назад

      You made my point. Rare comics should be rare because of loss to attrition not because someone decides to print only limited copies. That's a fake rarity.

    • @pop-comics
      @pop-comics  10 месяцев назад

      @@hungpham9566 But if you make something in high quantities that everyone treats like collectibles and keeps them mint then they become beanie babies. Artificial rare things are still rare things, it all depends on if having a smaller production leads to the nostalgia that creates value long term. I think they way they do modern comics is perfect for the current market. They have a wide release so the comic readers can get a comic for $4-5, or dig it out of a discount bin a few months later so its still semi cheap to read. And the collectors can get neat limited versions of the same comic, it cost more but they are limited so they are less likely to loose value so your not wasting your money on pretty comics. And it all leads to more comics being made and sold in a very niche market. Not all comics are made for a mass market today and that is ok. There are comics made for everyone and for every budget. If it was not for variant comics we would probably see the market die for single issues and we would be left with just Trades. I love single issues so I hope they never go that route and just let the market die.
