Phil is amazing....after all these years, still the most passionate Subject Matter Expert and Ambassador for Yamaha Synths. Thanks Phil for giving so much. Gratefully.
This and the Korg Kronos presentation was the best I've ever seen. Very straight forward and in-dept explanation and demonstration of the instruments' sounds and functions. You're not left to your own devices. That's how you sell your product!
Phil (Bad Mister) is a great guy, he is very knowledgeable in the yamaha motiif keys. He is vert instrumental in the productionl ine of this product, his idea in the video is relate to the audience and the world that MOTIF Keyz is basically a portable studio with all the attachments...
This man is just terrific. He's not only a fine pianist, as he demonstrates clearly, but he's extremely lucid and descriptive, embellishing and explaining his points with the keyboard. I would rather he'd have made a very quick sampling over as many instruments as he could, and discussed them but nevertheless he's fascinating to listen to. I'd like to hear and watch a video of him going through the Motif's instruments to alter their sounds.
The big improvement in the XF (over the XS) is the flash memory. On the XS, you had to save your setups on a USB stick and load them every time you powered up. With the XF, that annoyance goes away. Both the XS and XF have fantastic voice libraries. DAW integration is great, particularly with Cubase. It can render up to 16 audio tracks at once through Firewire, so I don't have to "freeze" tracks while I'm still working on the composition.
I totally agree with you guys. Bert is so very talented, and this Brother is a "Bad Azz" as well. I love this keyboard and I'm saving my "nickles" to get mine too. Thank you guys, and Yamaha.
Very nice presentation from a wonderful communicator for musicians and one's who are thinking about becoming more involved with the 'understanding' of new gear
Instead of commenting about the audience, I would rather marvel at the content of Phil's presentation. He certainly knows his product line with the MOTIFs and plays musical figures (or "motifs") that show the instrument in its best light. I was actually happy to see and not hear anything from the audience, so that I could listen to Phil (just as they were doing).
The reason he's demo'n mostly acoustic sounds is because acoustic sounds is the motifs' strength..if you notice when you see a roland keyboard being demoed if you pay attention you'll see that they demo the piano, the electric piano and rolands main strength which is the brass sounds and synth sounds..eevery synth has it's strength and that what motif is demoing ..its strength which is acoustic sounds
I love his presentation, and the reason that crowd is so dead is because the majority of them will never do "SH/T" in the music industry. This gentleman gives you a wealth of knowledge, but as the old adage suggests, "YOU CAN LEED A HORSE TO WATER,BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE HIM DRINK"!
What I've heard sounds gorgeous, but I really wish he would have spent more time on sounds other than acoustic piano, electric piano, and clavinet. Hopefully, a second video will highlight these in more detail, among other functions of the instrument, for those of us who have never owned a Motif and are intrigued.
Codriez1- Did you ever get an answer to which Performance was playing at the end (and also at about 7:00). It's nice, huh? Phil... great presentation!!
I just placed an order for a MOTIF XF7 with Sweetwater using the "3 easy payments" option :) I wish I got laid off so I would have more free time to get jiggy with it.
The Motif XF is great for composition and studio work, but less so for performance, in my opinion. For one thing, changing voices immediately kills your sound, even if you are holding a chord with your left hand. The assignable function buttons are used for articulation, but they can't be assigned to footswitch controllers. You can't cycle through voices/parts with a footswitch, either. It's bothersome to have to take your hand off the keys for articulation.
@Dadee3 Guy is good. I wonder if the crowd read in the paper there was a demo and just showed up. They have a Casio and are thinking of spending maybe $269 on a new Yamaha Portasound. They have that deer in the headlight look like they may not have any idea of what's going on - "Ah, it sounds cool..." :-)
I guess I don't understand, what with memory being so cheap, why workstations aren't featuring =gigabytes= of sample capability, rather than mere megabytes.
Yeah he lost the crowd somewhere during set up i guess. I think this was a Sweetwater educational seminar for sales staff. You know, the service reps that answer the phone when us "musicians" want to waste more money on our dreams of rockstardom....
I think he is confusing waveforms with sample partials.... the basic waveforms that analog synths have are present in all sounds... they are the building blocks of sounds... the 4,000 waveforms in the motif are sampled waves that make up the internal sounds.....
please stop saying rubbish man....dont compare a plastic japanese digital workstation with 3700 waves and simulated filters, with vintage analogue synthesizer with 4 analogue waves and analogue filters, it's really nonsense! modern or vintage analogue synthesizers like prophet6 or ob6 sounds huge and musical compared to that digital shit, motif xf is like a suv vehicle, analogue synthesizers are like F1 cars, both cars in strict terms but not comparable....like saying 'my vst amp simulator has 120 amps and cabinets....my valve marshall amp has only one.... so my vst is better?' nope...more things doesnt mean more quality....in this prospective a motif is better than arp2600 or minimoog xD that's silly.

Phil is the man. He is a great musician, playing a great musical instrument.

I'm picking up my XF today!!! Excited!!!

I'm glad I ve got my MOTIF XF 88 great board
This guy's great at presenting, he really knows his stuff!
This instrument remains every bit as relevant in 2022.
I totally agree with you guys. Bert is so very talented, and this Brother is a "Bad Azz" as well. I love this keyboard and I'm saving my "nickles" to get mine too. Thank you guys, and Yamaha.

This gentelman can teach engineering !
Best demo and review so far.
I'm glad I got my XF8
Congratulations on that beauty! XF7 owner here. You cannot go wrong with Yamaha and you have one of their best ever! Enjoy and happy playing!
Yes me too, for a long time now. Maybe a modx on top of it but xf stays.
Its not as pretty as the nords or as intuitive but god damn its the best feeling keyboard ive ever played
This guy and Bert are the best!! Omg and that crowd was very dead.
knows his stuff mann
The crowd wasn't dead. They were just overwhelmed. That's my take on it.

@r34drummer3 I was gonna say the same thing. He knows the tech stuff spot on as well as the music stuff.
Codriez1- Did you ever get an answer to which Performance was playing at the end (and also at about 7:00). It's nice, huh?
Phil... great presentation!!
The presenter rocks, I was sold on XF two months ago when I got it from Sweetwater. Thanks Nick! But the crowd, looks dead. Who are these douches?
Love my xs

Great Job !!
This Man is GREAT!!! He is the BEST YAMAHA's PERFORMERS!!! and GREAT MUSICIAN!!! THANK YOU!!! I don't like Bert...
I know this was a year ago, but the performance is called Second Breakfast.
@Dadee3 .i agree..crowd is unresponsive..drugged mostly..hehe..love the synth..
@6:45!! Nice what is that particular performance mode called?
After going thru all the sounds, I think it's called Second Breakfast. (Performance)
I just would like to know is if I play piano at first brings the motif or are in some library in particular?????? thanks
Holy smokes that ac.guitar was super....
Yamaha best sounddd
Hey bro. did you ever find the name of that fresh perfomance at 6:45 in the video?
I looked. It's not on MY box. But there's plenty of other dope performance sounds!
@Dadee3 Guy is good. I wonder if the crowd read in the paper there was a demo and just showed up. They have a Casio and are thinking of spending maybe $269 on a new Yamaha Portasound. They have that deer in the headlight look like they may not have any idea of what's going on - "Ah, it sounds cool..." :-)
what is the name of the motif xf "performance" he chose to play in at 6:45? i've been looking for it
Where can I get one of them shirts?
I would like a S700 piano.
He gets all funky at 04:40
@brickben75 You got it - that's Phil.
how many voices does this synt has?
@r34drummer3, Yes indeed...
Under his breath he's saying "This crowd is just killing me"
Good thing he doesn't looked tired & annoyed
LIBRARY THAT ARE PLAYING THE PIANO PRINCIPLE ESPECIALLY THE (Wurlitzer) THANKS
Yeah that shit is hot! I'm gonna look myself!
This crowd is clearly not yamaha savvy smh, their loss! Hey at least the presenter is having fun-HE KNOWS WHAT'S GOOD!
Bad Mister rules!
So basically Yamaha took something that couldn't be beat.... and made it better. :-)
I guess I don't understand, what with memory being so cheap, why workstations aren't featuring =gigabytes= of sample capability, rather than mere megabytes.
menos blablablabla abuelo!!! muestra la potencia del yamaha motif!!!
I agree this guy in brilliant! But all I can think of is Cleveland Brown!
Pianos sound just like the S90xs
Bad Mister Phil !!!
Yeah he lost the crowd somewhere during set up i guess. I think this was a Sweetwater educational seminar for sales staff. You know, the service reps that answer the phone when us "musicians" want to waste more money on our dreams of rockstardom....
3:38 Motif Xf doesnt have powergrand but the mm8 does :(
You can download it from Motifator.com.
I think he is confusing waveforms with sample partials.... the basic waveforms that analog synths have are present in all sounds... they are the building blocks of sounds... the 4,000 waveforms in the motif are sampled waves that make up the internal sounds.....
I hate when people cough to express they are bored. The man is making incredibly good his job but people are not interested... dumb people!
Memory should be quadrupling or more not doubling! specially at this price....
@6.10 fuck me, that's amazing!
He talks dominant just like Ice Cube did in 21st Jump Street movie....
dead heads
النص بلغه العربي
Yea the crowd is wack. so dead. wtf?! smh. Great Presentation though.
SMH @ this crowd.
May be the crowd don't understand English? Or is it Music? My gosh even aliens understand music.
not that old lol
please stop saying rubbish man....dont compare a plastic japanese digital workstation with 3700 waves and simulated filters, with vintage analogue synthesizer with 4 analogue waves and analogue filters, it's really nonsense!
