    This was Novak’s most important Grand Slam final win in my humble opinion. Losing this would have let in too many doubts into his mind. He had lost 3 major finals in a row coming into this and won only 1 out of the last 6 he had played. Back to back losses at the French and Wimbledon to his 2 greatest rivals would have really taken a massive hit. Winning this match the way he did is what helped him win essentially everything post this match. Would have won the US if it weren’t for the heat, I was there that day. Nishikori deserves credit for winning that semi against Novak but the heat gets to Novak like nothing else.

    • @ashb001
      @ashb001 6 лет назад +36

      Yup, smart observation. A loss here, especially after having been up a match point, would have been devastating for him given that he lost the previous three finals. This match marked the beginning of the third act in his career.

    Federer, the god of tennis, owned by Nadal from 2008 to 2011 and then by Djovokic from 2011 till the end of his career.

      @Enterfly Nadal was invincible from 2008 to 2011. He then lost dominance on surfaces other than clay. He hasn't beat Federer on hard and quick surfaces a lot since 2011. His encounter with Fed since then has been mostly restricted to clay because he got knocked out way too early to meet him. Djoke on other hand has owned Fed in finals since 2011.

    R F played extremely poor in 5th set when it is 4 - 4, and he missed the super easy volley, and then played rest of the points like a very ordinary player. It is really shocking how R F mentally so vulnerable and nervous in crtically big moments. It is a tragedy for him, he does have god like skill but mentally unable to handle pressure in many losses against N D

      This is the most infuriating thing about Fed. Perhaps it is just his whole groundstroke action - leaves little room for technical errors
      And so whenever he gets tight it falls apart.
      But 2017 Fed showed what he truly could be if he toughened up mentally and played the super agressive style that is best suited to him.
      Looking better this year but nowhere near 2017.
