You have to be a general for assari. They are fantastic if you have a small set of them in the centre then two more flanks to come in and throw javelins from behind then circling the enemy. The only infantry that does this better is sturgia
Best Tier-5 infantry in the game IS the Aserai Infantry, need to be in a wider(longer) line than the enemy, unleash javelins, then win with higher weapon skill.... all-around best infantry, unless you're an expert kiter, then the best infantry is the WILDING.
The big difference, is that the Aserai infantry are more skirmishers than a per eilite melee. It makes them more versatile, but in a head-to-head charge on both sides, it isn't effective. They might be *as* good in strategic situations, and get probably be more effective against cav with throwing javs, but since both have polearms it would still have to be in more strategic situations like when cav arne't focusing that unit or horse archers are circling them in a circle formation or something. I think ultimately, it's really a minor different but since vlandians have 50/50 maces vs swords, it also makes them a bit better against armored units. but we can all agree they are probably better than Sturgians xD
I am testing them in a head to head but every kingdom of Calradia has it differences some are cav focused some are archer focused so some units may be a lot weaker head to head but stronger vs other troops like cav and stronger in sieges or defending sieges
This is no criticism on you. But i been playing with RBM lately. And damn does this game need it 😂 Even without the combat and troop overhaul. Just the tactics alone make the game so much better.
I do like how battles can play out so differently even under identical conditions
I mean there isn't really any other way to test the troops, maybe they will perform different in sieges ( defending or attacking)

Having the asarai on engage rather then charge would beat vlandjan
