Best gencon ever was the pandemic one. Was like a ghost town (comparatively) in the hall, and (ironically) the only one i never got sick at.

Gencon should move to Minneapolis. Much better city with better transportation options.

GenCon has been too large for that convention center for most of the last decade, not counting the covid years. Moving would mean a choice between Orlando, Chicago and Las Vegas and Peter Adkinson has dismissed moving to any of those cities.
In the very near future Gencon will become like SDCC where the absolute cap on the number of people the convention center can possibly accommodate will be reached. The first year where people actually get refused tickets who are in line when the system goes online may be what it takes to get the operation moved again.

@@KenS1267 events are already impossible to get, I can only imagine the actual tickets. I wouldn’t mind it being in Orlando.

@@NerdLNerd It would be sad to see it leave the Midwest but Chicago probably has the highest hotel prices of the available options. However Florida has DeSantis and his various posturings which make moving there unlikely.

I'm unsure at times if it's the amount of times I've gone to gencon (think I started in 2003-2004) along with other conventions that has given me good experience in handling them. I mean there is always an x factor like fatigue will kick in there are only so many days you can go out drinking till close wake up early shower and do a bunch of events.

Marvel Multiverse RPG was running two hour slots all con. It was the sleeper hit of the convention.
My routine is Thursday a walk through and actual shopping on Sunday.

Last Gen Con I went to was probably something like 1999, if I had to guess. And my take-away was that you should probably just do your shopping on Thursday, since stuff can easily sell out by Sunday. So, if there's something you want, you should just get it right away.
My other big advice about Gen Con is to go with a friend. It's a very lonely experience if you go alone. I've done it both ways, and have WAY more fun if you've got someone to hang out with.

We went last year, first time in a long time, probably the last time we will attend. It was impossible to get into any of the events we wanted to attend, almost all of the games were fully booked by the time we were able to sign up. People were surprisingly rude, that was very unexpected.
