My guess is that no one is screaming because who wins the debate has no influence on who dies or has power. Up until fairly recently it very much mattered which side you were on. The old divisions have been replaced by new ones: Christianity versus Islam, woke versus conservative. If you want to have screaming and violence those are the places to look, where who is the winner or the loser will have very concrete effects ion people's lives.

I met Candace when she was out with her husband (and one other person) at a restaurant that I was at the last time I was in Nashville. I tried not to crash their dinner so I approached before their food arrived - I was fan-girling so hard and SO nervous. She was SO NICE and so was her husband! She let me take a selfie with her. We come back to asking Jesus into your heart, He is the Living Word, scripture is not the Living Word, Jesus is and all the scriptures spoken about by the disciples were not referring to the bible - it didn't exist then. Depends on the evangelical church you go to. Some churches are basically a Christian rock concert with an inspiring speech tacked on. Others are much more modest and focus on sound theology in their worship and solid Biblical teaching.
Frankly, I think Catholics place way too much faith in the authority of an institution run by fallible humans. I think the Church can err, therefore I can’t be a Catholic.

Repent & believe the true gospel of Christ. Being a catholic or Protestant who believes in a works based salvation won’t get you to heaven. Repentance is not “asking for forgiveness or turning from sin” it’s goijg from a state of unbelief to belief. Changing your mind on who God is & how to be saved.
Ask yourself this do you believe in the true gospel of Christ which is Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Or do you believe in a false gospel where you must “repent/turn away from sin, be baptized, eat the flesh, + believe in Jesus to be saved. If you believe in such you believe in a false gospel unfortunately. Majority of Christian’s do & it is the wide path to destruction that is leading many to hell.
To prove the life you live has nothing to do with weather you are saved or not I will use nothing but the Bible.
God sees “turning from sin” as works.
Jonah 3:10 And God saw their WORKS, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
What is sin? 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the LAW: for sin is the transgression of the law
What do you do when you decide to turn from sin? You decide to follow the law. What does the Bible say about following the law to be saved?
Roman’s 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the LAW there shall NO FLESH be JUSTIFIED in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Jesus says in Matthew 7:21 that whoever does the will of the father will enter heaven well what is the will of the father?
John 6:40 For my Father’s WILL is that everyone who looks to the Son and BELIEVES in him shall have ETERNAL life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
I could literally go on & on about how many verses that says you literally just have to BELIEVE to be saved. Not believe in Jesus+repent or + be baptized or + eat the flesh ect. If you don’t believe in belief only justifies you are not saved because you believe in a works based gospel.
Roman’s 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
You must believe in the true gospel for your faith to be counted for righteous. If you believe in a works based gospel you or working for salvation & your faith will not be counted for righteousness. Only the people who believe your are saved by GRACE through FAITH alone are saved majority don’t this is why Jesus called works based salvation the broad path to destruction.
Think about it why does it literally make it so easy to where you can literally just believe to be saved? 1st it gives ALL glory to him. I didn’t save myself HE SAVED ME.
      Titus 3:5-7 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy HE SAVED US, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
      6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his GRACE, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
2nd if I could do anything to obtain eternal life it would put salvation in my hands & not gods. He destroyed the “wisdom” of the wise & gives nothing but understanding to the prudent. The thief on the cross did nothing but believe & his faith was counted for righteousness. God makes it so easy to obtain eternal life you can literally be on you death bed & be saved. This is the beauty of the true gospel. It’s NOT about the life YOU live it’s about the life Jesus lived for US. He lived the perfect life we couldn’t.
Grace is not a licensee to sin like how most false prophets think it is it’s actually what gets us to turn us away from our sin.
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we SHOULD live soberly*, righteously, and godly, in this present world
WE SHOULD walk in the spirit.
We SHOULD Put on the New Man
WE SHOULD Be obedient to God
WE SHOULD Put to death the works of the flesh.
Will we? Not everyone will. Thank Paul talks about putting on the new man & fighting against the flesh so much. Thank God in our lord & savior Jesus Christ that he lived the perfect life for me that with the mind serve the law of god but with the flesh serve the law of sin. -Roman’s 7:25
Some people will remain babes in Christ never growing spiritually.
Some people will grow up spiritually to be soul winners.
Both are saved because on judgement day it won’t be about the life they lived but the life Jesus lived for them they will be covered is his righteousness not there own. Repent & believe in the true gospel of Christ.

The Muslims like that they are allowed to lie about ‘ affairs as they are allowed to call the affair a marriage and not tell the wife. It’s all in the rules of the organization. Time to read your Bible well ( which wasn’t allowed by the Catholic Church for years and years ). And there are many types of Catholic Churches too.. I don’t just pray through Mary, but in our home, me, my wife and children all together ask St. Joseph, Eve, St. Augustine, St. John Paul II, St. Gianna Molla, St. Patrick, St. Ann, St. Therese of lisieux, and Venerable Fulton Sheen for their intercession. We do that every night after petitioning God directly.
Do you have an issue with asking them to pray for us, or just Mary?
I ask because the Bible tells us the saints in Heaven are more alive than we are on earth. And if we believe the Bible is true, it stands to reason we should ask others to pray for us.
Have you ever asked anyone to pray for you? If so, why not ask someone who is alive in Christ, even if the body is dead?

@@tessalala272 There are multiple verses when taken together imply the living nature of those who are dead to us, but alive in Christ (Revelation 6:9-10; 1 Corinthians 15; Luke 20:34-38; Matthew 22:32, and many more).
My personal favorite is probably Revelation 5:8 where John describes the saints as offering our prayers to God, which implies the saints (some translations call them "God's people") are not only aware of our prayers, but they bring them to God on our behalf (ie the saints can "intercede" for us).
My second favorite verse is probably Mark 12:26 where Christ tells us directly the saints are alive, and He is their God. ("I AM the God of Abraham" - not 'was the God of Abraham' implying He is currently the God of someone who is dead to the earth but alive in Heaven).
If you want to go deeper I would suggest seeing what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says with regards to 'communion of saints'.

Allie kept on encouraging people to use a specific study bible. There was also little attention to the possibility that the commentary could be coming from "tradition." I was disappointed that Allie's understanding of the Catholic faith is so limited especially when she talked about Catholics and the bible. I am not sure why none of her formerly Catholic friends had no clue that most of the mass is straight scripture. There are 4 readings, (HT, or Acts, Psalm, NT and Gospel at Sunday masses and 3 at daily masses. Most of the prayers come from scripture. The Rosary is scripturally based including the Assumption which comes from Revelation. Also, I wish there were more attention to the issues of salvation and works. I often hear people say that they "used to be Catholic, but now they are "saved." The way that they are "saved" often include saying that they have "accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior." Why isn't the requirement of having to say specific words considered "works."

I think the Mother of God issue is something that Catholics don't interpret properly. George did properly explain where Mary as Mother of God comes from - the point of declaring Mary to be Mother of God was to make a statement about Jesus being God in the flesh. That's all well and good and I think every Christian agrees with that. However, then Catholics take her status as Mother of God to mean she has some special status as an intercessor in heaven, and that was not the point of the council.
I'm not a theologian by a long shot, but I think that's not us non-Catholics who are misinterpreting things, I think it's the Catholics who are misinterpreting Mary as Mother of God to mean more than the council meant it to mean.

We have to use caution when it comes to our emotions. Satan has access to them so it requires some discernment.
There is beauty in our faith. Catholic Churches tend to be beautiful, but not all of them are ornate. Some are simplistic but still hold beauty. The true beauty in the Catholic Church is the real presence of Christ. God inhabited mount sinai and therefore His presence was palpable. This is my experience in the Catholic Faith.
Beauty always points to God. Nothing could be beautiful without Him. The beauty of the building and the faith point to God.
What we do with that is a measure of our walk in our faith. If we are not transformed by God, then we resist His grace. I can observe and appreciate beauty in nature, but if I fail to glorify God then I am doing God an injustice, who created the beauty.
People who don’t fully understand the Catholic Faith tend to get hung up on the externals. These can be both Catholics and non Catholics. The beauty is meant to point us towards God and in doing so we are required to praise Him for the gift of beauty. If we fail to do this then we fail to render justice unto God.
The Church is both physical and spiritual. It is a place and it is the body of Christ. We are all part of the body of Christ through our obedience to God. We come to the Church to worship Him. Mass is completely focused on God, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We participate in unity in this worship. Our sacrifice is that of Christ, the Lamb of God through the Eucharist, as it has been through the inception of Christ’s Church which was fashioned after 2nd temple Judaism.
The New Testament heavily teaches the removal of the staff of Aaron through the Levite priesthood and handing it off to Christ whose priesthood is of the order of Melchezadek. In the Old Testaments introduction to Melchezedek there is an offering of bread and whine by Abraham. This foreshadows the Eucharist. And this practice completes the Old Testament scripture as Christ commands us to partake of His Body and Blood. Which many rejected and left Jesus at this teaching. Why would they be so scandalized over something that is only symbolic?
As Catholics, we can’t expect to be spoon fed our faith and do nothing in response. We need to understand our faith and study scriptures through the lens of Sacred Tradition. For we are unified by the Tradition unlike the multiplicity churches outside the faith that practice sola scriptura.
We look at the purpose of Jesus’s coming as more than just to offer us redemption but also to equip us to maintain it with the creation of His Church. Why would He create a Church that did not carry authority? That would lead to fracturing of the faithful who claim their own authority and essentially become their own popes. But like the relationship we have with Christ, to respond to His calling and be docile to His teachings we have a responsibility to have a close relationship with the Church. To participate. We have not simply the scriptures for discernment, but also the magisterial teachings of the Church. Like parents that provide each other with checks and balances. But we as Catholics should do well to know and understand the faith we hold and Sacred Scripture.
😮‍💨 that was a mouthful. I hope it did some justice to your question. And I humbly pray I didn’t misrepresent my faith. I am not as learned as George, but I aspire to be.
      God Bless

is 1 Cor 3:15, where we are saved by fire “If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”
      1 Corinthians 3:15
I learned a lot at the Protestant church and I’m grateful for my time there, but they don’t have the Eucharist, which is something you should pray about and ask the Lord to show you the truth about it. John 6:66 “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.”… because they couldn’t understand what Jesus meant by eating his flesh. They left him after he multiplied the loaves and fish! And that is what the Protestant church did, sadly.

You were saved when Jesus died on the cross for your sins. You were saved when your original sins were washed away in baptism. But you will know for sure you have been “saved” when you are dead and on your way to heaven. Until then, you could reject God and turn away and lose your “assurance”. But don’t lose hope, God gave us a way to restore our relationship again through repentance. The sacrament of reconciliation is your assurance, given by Jesus, administered by his priests.

From my experience, there is no greater feeling then kneeling at the alter with the wife God gave me, by my side, and watching her receive the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus and then receive him myself. I kneel next to her at the pew and feel the oneness between us and Jesus. Perfectly said. I know exactly how you feel. I would regularly take my beautiful wife and two young daughters to the Traditional Latin Mass. We would do Confession first, to cleanse our souls. Then to kneel at the pew before Mass, preparing my soul to receive my Lord in the holy sacrifice of the Mass. Sitting in the pew during the homily, I would place my hand on my wife’s leg. Looking over, seeing her and our daughters in their pretty Sunday dresses, with their veils covering their hair. Then, as you say, to kneel as a family at the communion rail to receive the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Our Blessed Lord. There was a feeling I had that’s hard to describe. A feeling of peace and contentment and being so lucky and blessed. Afterwards, we would usually go out for lunch as a family and share that time together as well. Such beautiful memories!
I say all that in the past tense because my beautiful, young wife was taken from me. A sudden heart attack, dead instantly. My family suddenly shattered, and nothing will ever be the same again. I’m crying as I write this. These memories I’ve shared in the previous paragraph are beautiful, but almost too much to bear…knowing what I have lost. Wishing so bad I could go back and do it over again. Whoever reads this, please pray for me and my now family of three. We are struggling. I have been asked to carry a cross so heavy that I fear I will be crushed beneath the weight of it. And I have been tasked to learn the true meaning of suffering, at a level I didn’t even know existed. May God bless and keep you.

I ask her to recite it for me so that if I go first, she knows what to do in her sorrow instead of just feeling sorrow. Who ever stays behind must dedicate prayer and sacrifices for the Purgatory sentence the one who died was given for their sins. Never assume someone just went straight to Heaven. Help them get into Heaven. The one in Purgatory must accept the fullness of the just sentence and do not resist the cleaning of the soul. After the one in Purgatory is accepted into heaven, beg God to allow the news to be revealed the one still leaving. In which ever way Jesus believes is best. Then, the one on earth continues to care for their soul and the souls of children and grand children. And the one in heaven continues to intercede for the salvation of the one living so they too may be accepted to Heaven.

I can relate so much with Cadence. I marry a catholic man and for a long time I tried to reason with him about religion, even though I was sure that if we had children, our child should be baptized because it was important for him. I'm happy you are so open to it because like it was for me, you have the chance through your husband to really KNOW the catholic faith. After 29 years of being protestant, I'm now catholic. My conversion became possible because I was open to know, to study about it and in doing it I finally understood that religion have nothing to do with a feeling, like Luthero made it seems. Through the whole discussion, Allie measured the authority of the Pope and our priests by her standards, by herself. But they aren't just anyone, they dedicate their whole lives to Jesus, they are in State of Grace, we most of the time don't. She doesn't believe for a second that our priests have the clarity of the Holly Spirit. I can see now how presumptuous the protestant views are. "Salvation is mine to take", "No human can have more authority about my actions than me", "Mary was just a woman"... They can't fathom someone on this earth more deserving than themselves. I'm from Brazil and we have a famous priest named Father Paulo Ricardo that described perfectly what Luthero and Calvin did... he said that "Luthero should have throwed away the bath water, but he threw the baby instead". There is no right way out of the Catholic Apostolic Church, and that is made clear when nowadays we have pastors supporting abortion and same sex marriage. I hope you find your way home, Cadence. May God lead your way to Him. God bless you!

@@brittanylong3756 I understand what you say, but for me it is just a flourish way to say exactly the same thing. We both agree that Jesus freed us from our original sins, but we believe we have to earn it through our actions on this earth. We can and will lose it if we do not learn to walk like Jesus walked. And “no one has the authority but Jesus” we also agreed, but after Jesus resurrection, He told the apostles "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” So with that, He gave authority to men to forgive and lead the church. For that, we do believe that on this earth we have men with more authority than others to forgive sins and therefore, help you receive salvation.

Sola scriptura ironically isn't mentioned anywhere in scripture; sola fida is directly contravened by James 2:24. Ultimately, I was convinced by the scriptural basis of Christ's flesh (real food) and blood (real drink) in the Eucharist. God gave me the same choice that the disciples had to make -- believe or walk away. I decided to believe and it was like scales fell from my eyes. If the protestants got that core truth wrong, what else did they get wrong? I can't say that it's always been easy or quick. But the effort has been the most worthwhile thing that I've done with my life. You'll be in my prayers.

Scripture does expressly refute Scripture alone when it says that the Church (as opposed to Scripture) is the pillar and foundation of truth (1 Timothy 3:15). 2. What does St. John say of those disciples who rejected Our Lord's teaching on the Real Presence? He says: "After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer walked with Him" (John 6:66). To reject the Real Presence is to reject Christ.

You need to read ALL of John's Gospel chapter 6 and in the context of the rest of the New Testament, not just take the word of others (who have an agenda) for it.
For example, in verse 33, it says clear as day what the bread is: HIM!
He is the daily spiritual "food" you need as much as you need physical food (even more so).
Just like he quotes Deuteronomy in Matthew 4 when he tells Satan "man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God".

Jesus used his last words to give us his Mother while he was on the cross. He said to Mary, woman behold your son, in reference to John, and here is your Mother to John. When you seek Jesus she will always be there. If you get lost from him, she will lead the way. Just as any mother would. There’s no rule to venerate Mary, but she was given to us as Our Lady as she is the perfection of Eve. She spoke the loudest yes to God that rings throughout all of history. She deserves her flowers, or better yet, her roses.🌹There is also a phenomenon known as spiritual baptism recognized by the Catholic Church. And after much prayer and seeking the Lord for the last couple of years, I truly feel God is calling me home to the Catholic Church. So I’m heading back to the Church I was baptized in as an Infant…

Eventually his conversion to the Roman Catholic faith prompted him to leave his position as a pastor. His wife’s journey took much more time. Allie, re: talking about praying “to dead people”. When we die, we are “dead” to the created world, not the spiritual world. Those in Heaven are more alive than we are alive on earth! Unfortunately, those in Hell are just as alive for infernal eternity. The saints in Heaven are with the Holy Trinity, the pinnacle of our journey from this life to the next! We KNOW MARY is in Heaven; therefore, we can speak to her in prayer for intercession. The Queen Mother of the King who speaks to her son the King on behalf of His faithful servants. Just has been the case historically through time. The Queen would be given the keys to the Kingdom and make decisions if the King was away. She was the go-between the King and the people. Mary fulfilled that role at Cana when Jesus told her it wasn’t His time to perform miracles, but because His Mother asked, He was obedient to her, as He was perfectly obedient to Joseph and Mary growing up or He would break His own Commandments! He also gave her over to Saint John as his Mother; not only to look after her, but, Jesus always meant what He said with profundity. He is vertical, not horizontal like we tend to think.
Jesus gives us everything we need. He gives us His Word, He left us the Sacraments: Baptism for the “removal of the guilt of both Original Sin (the sin imparted to all mankind by the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden) and personal sin (the sins that we have committed ourselves).” Confession for the cleansing of the stains of sin on our souls after Baptism; Holy Eucharist to experience unity with Christ through Him as food for our souls. Confirmation to renew our Baptism at age of reason and commitment to Him and His One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church. Marriage a sacred vocation between a man & woman and open to life a raising children of God. Holy Orders to continue the priesthood from Melchizedek through the Apostles and to the end of ages, leading the flock home to the real Shepherd. Viaticum/Extreme Unction to give peace to the dying, their farewell through the priest by prayers, anointing, last confession if possible (coherent) and to receive Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity by the manna/unleavened consecrated bread by the priest (as in the OT) real and spiritual food for the last, impending, journey home.
God established order through Creation in all things. God is very specific and detailed throughout scripture: Who, how, what, when, where-the tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, Noah’s Ark, the Serpent staff in the desert, Joshua and Jericho, the Passover, plague of Death and flee from Pharaoh, the manna and quail, etc., etc. Just saying-the seven books taken away from the original compilation of the Bible was so they could rid the books that held beliefs they wanted to change by their schism from the one true church into heresy as was brought up in the debate about praying for and to the dead, purgatory, etc. When He gave specific instructions on the Bread of the Presence/ showbread in OT of the priestly order and in John 6.
The Catholic faith is so rich, so deep, so profound. Unfortunately, the Church was highjacked by the Modernists (since the Enlightenment), freemasonry (after the French Revolution), communists around late1800s, but more so 1930s onward introducing Marxism/ Social justice movement(Bella Dodd), and satanic infiltration (since Judas, but mainly late 50s early 60s where some satanists were elevated into leadership, unbeknownst for the most part, or, maybe at the least??🤷🏻‍♀️. This made me want to defend our Church and try to educate others also to see why our Church is actually suffering with ineffective or apostate clergy to the top. Praying if not sooner, or by the end of their time on earth, they will see their errors and see the true goodness of our Lord, repent and be saved from the fires of Hell.
The French Revolution was to take the Cath Church down by war, that didn’t work, so they decided to infiltrate with propaganda in their sworn document known as the Alta Vendita. Look it up.
Enough. I could go on and on. Going to bed. God bless+

Growing up in the UK in an extremely devout Roman Catholic family, my spiritual journey is the opposite to George’s. It was a wonderful, liberating realisation to discover my salvation is not dependent on my works - ie my good works hopefully out-weighing my sins on the heavenly weighing scales. But rather, I am saved through grace ALONE, as Allie so well articulates. Isaiah 64:6 states “all our righteous deeds are like filthy rags”! If this is true, what hope is there for anyone? Thankfully through Christ bearing our sins on the cross, our sin (which we commit every day!) are taken care of. Presumably George believes (as all RCs) that Christ’s death was not enough! Respectfully this makes a mockery of His death - why did God bother sending Jesus at all if we can save ourselves? This was a hard journey for me many years ago, having been told since infancy that the RC church is the “One True Church”. It resulted in my husband and I keeping our marriage secret from my mother’s side of the family, so great was the shame that we were marrying in a non-Catholic church (it was actually a Bible-believing Evangelical church!). Well done Allie for defending God’s Word on these issues. The Bible is our only sure guide. George and Candice - thanks for this discussion. Praying for you!

She said “ Pray to my son, Jesus”. I’ll never forget that moment. The next day in school we celebrated the immaculate conception. I had no idea it was this day. In the auditorium the choir sang Let it Be buy the Beatles. As I listened to the words I started to cry. “In my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me. Speaking words of wisdom. Let it be”. After that happened I always wondered. Was she trying to tell me to go straight to her son with prayer or, as some of you have said, was she guiding me in the right direction as a mother would? Try the Orthodox Church. We don't have a purgatory in our doctrine. The Orthodox Church is the original Church, from which Catholics split in the 10th century.

You have to accept all catholic doctrines if you are catholic.
"Hence it is evident that a heretic who obstinately disbelieves one article of faith, is not prepared to follow the teaching of the Church in all things; but if he is not obstinate, he is no longer in heresy but only in error. Therefore it is clear that such a heretic with regard to one article has no faith in the other articles, but only a kind of opinion in accordance with his own will" - St.Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologiae
Try looking for more arguments for purgatory, I'm sure you will one day be able to understand. But you must accept as faith is an submission of the intellect and will even if you do not fully grasp or understand.

Purgatory can be understood and appreciated in the light of God's mercy and justice. The bible says that no stain of sin may enter heaven. Not even the smallest vestige of sin can stand before the Almighty, All Holy One. Purgatory is for those who died in the friendship of God but isn't perfect yet. They might still have minor faults, weaknesses, unrepented sin, etc. They don't deserve hell but nor do they deserve heaven...yet. This is where God's mercy and justice come in. Purgatory is a state where souls get purified like gold is purified by fire. They experience sorrow for their sins and crave to be with God in the process. In time, God will deem them perfectly holy and will allow them to enter his presence. Having been made pure, they can now stand before God without guilt or shame. Before purgatory, I don't know if anyone would have been able to look God in the eye. We would all be so conscious of our many faults.

A scriptural basis for purgatory... It's not explicitly stated but it is alluded to. 1 Cor 3:11-15: "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames."
St. Paul is saying, a person who built a life upon Christ but is found wanting somehow will be saved but will first experience suffering comparable to escaping a fire.

@@renee6989 thanks for commenting! Would love to discuss that more. That verse explains how the Word is sufficient and there is no need to add to Scripture.
“I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written” 1 Corinthians 4:6.
Mark 7:8-9 “You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men. And he said to them, ‘You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!’”
Proverbs 30:5-6 “Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.”
1 John 4:1 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” We are told here to test ALL things to Scripture which makes it the standard of truth.
2 Timothy 4:3-4: "Preach the Word; for the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." This shows good doctrine comes from Scripture alone and this instructs us to compare all things someone says against to the Word.
The Word being the standard of truth means when someone says anything it should be measured against it. If someone claims something as “truth,” but it is not in Scripture it makes them a liar based on these Scriptures. We do not add or change the Word- we surrender to it.
      Wish you the best!

All a Christian needs to dispell any confusion is a simple "Thus sayeth the Lord" and my bible says "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten." Ecclesiastes 9:5 .. So therefore, no need to pray for, or to dead people.
