This song is from the latest album (they are releasing a new one next year) and represents their most modern sound pretty well, vs a song like Consign to Oblivion which is from their 2nd album and has much more operatic vocals from Simone which you didn't like So I think you are good to become a fan lol

Another great reaction to probably my favorite Epica song. For me this is their Magnus Opus. Omega Alive was there livestream show during the pandemic so that's why no audience. They hadn't been able to tour in support of their Omega album so they came up with this way of performing for their fans during the lockdown, similar to how Nightwish did two virtual concerts to promote the Human Nature album about a year after it was released. Omega Alive was filmed over several days and each song was recorded live in a single take (Rivers acapella followed by Once Upon a Nightmare were filmed in one continuous shot) and and then streamed as one continuous show on line. Their videography they work with, Jens the Panda, is fantastic and you can see a similar style of recording in their official live one shot video of Rivers from Chile. I saw them perform Kingdom of Heaven Pt3 live during their 20th anniversary concert and it was spectacular. I watched that concert via a livestream by the band and the video and audio were excellent. Best $14 I ever spent. Next Epica I would recommend Unchain Utopia and Once Upon a Nightmare from this same concert. Simone's inspiration for becoming a symphonic metal singer was Tarja from Nightwish. She was a teenager taking pop vocal lessons and heard Nightwish's Oceanborn album and immediately switch to classical voice lessons. I think earlier Epica songs tend to use her more operatic voice back then and over the last 20 years Simone has developed more of her musical theater/contemporary voice to include a powerful chest voice and belting so you may like more of later Epica, although all of her ballads over the years are fantastic. Solitary Ground is a great song where her beautiful voice really shines.

I also had confidence that you would actually get usted to in a way (this could also not happen and that’s fine as well). Once your ears start to understand and enjoy Épica sound, there’s no way back. I suggest “Once Upon a Nightmare” (Omega Alive) and “Beyond the Matrix” (live at AFAS, but also could be live at the Zenith). Keep them coming! Cheers :)

Played back to back, in the middle of the set, with Kingdom of heaven (part 1), 27 minutes of awesome. I didn't think this was too heavy for you, as you have already done one of the heaviest songs in "Consign to Oblivion". Not only more of the REVO-1 Curveboard here, but Flaming Piano 🔥🎹. It was really on fire, and yes same guy. Yep, Coen's main keyboard has a spinning top, it's also stage mobile, either on track or wheels. When you don't want a 13 1/2 minute song to end. 🤘😁🤘. once upon a nightmare, from omega alive, is a frigging masterpiece imho. beautifully shot, kinda a powerballad. her voice in that is just sublime starts of with a duet with a grand piano and guitar. its just so good :)))
There is another song called Kingdom of heaven Part 1 which was played just before this one during the concert. It is also another one of their prog songs. I think you'll love that one as well. As others have said, listen to Once Upon a Nightmare from this same concert. Simone's voice brings me to tears.

They wanted to do something special not just a boring standard show. More bands did live streams at that time. Nightwish did also a live stream and that was pre recorded as well. So yes Epica turned their stream into an incredible visual show and raised the bar very high with this one.
Hey Nikki, so glad you reacted to this song. I was pretty sure you'd like it. Definetely count on KOH 1 & 3 (not sure about 2) at the concert with the symphonic orchester and choir in Amsterdam. Here is a bit of background information for you about Kingdom of Heaven - III KOH is mostly written by Mark (guitar, growl/scream, lyricist & composer) and Isaac (lead guitar, clean/growl, part time lyricist & composer). Mark had been stock with this piece for a very long time. Both Mark & Isaac lost their grand-mother around the same time. Isaac came to Mark and said he had some ideas how the piece could progress, and would Mark be interested in hearing his ideas. Shortly after, they had to reduce a bit the length of this masterpiece. The result, you just heard.

This is part of a fake "live" studio concert made by Epica during the pandemic. I remember how one of the reactors, who was also a singer, did a review then, where she pointed out the moments proving that this wasn't a real live performance (although it was called "alive"), but then the toxic Epica fans harassed her, forcing her to delete that video and after that she almost stopped posting anything.
Know the reactor you are talking about. I still follow her and love her reactions and her own music. Never saw her reaction to the Omega Alive so what exactly is fake about the livestream and what were the examples that prove it was fake? Just trying to educate myself. I do remember her shortly after the concert complaining about the livestream in another video but she didn't go into the details, just stating that she was deleting the video and calling out the people who were coming after her.
@@rnowak85 I don't remember everything she said, it was 3 years ago. I remember something about the shape of Simone's mouth not matching the sound. But in fact, even in this video, it is obvious that this is not live: There is no chance that a keyboardist could walk such a distance from his synthesizer to a burning piano and start playing in less than 5 seconds. And after the last time they show him playing that piano - after about 12 seconds, the same spot is absolutely clean, without a burnt piano, ashes, smoke or traces of fire extinguishers. There are also several shots with, for example, those gymnasts filmed through a drum kit with a moving camera, and then they show a wide shot when, in theory, you should see a cameraman at that spot, but no one is there - obviously it was filmed at different times with many takes. "Omega Alive" was a purely studio project, like shooting a music video, but presented as a live concert.
I don’t know I apparently don’t have as much expertise in all the engineering stuff that you apparently have but I do know this that as stated by cameraman Jens “The Panda”, both Rivers done a cappella and once upon a nightmare were shot back to back in one shot camera take.
They could have filmed it any way they wanted, but again I don't think it was completely live sound (or at all): I don't see any microphones anywhere around the choir in "Rivers", or as is the case with the children's choir in "The Skeleton Key". If you remember, on their real live videos "We Will Take You With Us" and "Retrospect", the choir had microphones, but they were not on "Omega Alive".
