These were so dry they just needed little grease.

clintegbert3405 is correct. Mower decks you get usually have sealed bearings in them. Best thing you can do is to remove the inner seal on each spindle bearing then reinstall them.
They are pressed in so I use a press to take them apart and put them back together.
THEN you can grease the bearings as needed and the bearings will now get grease.

I've put grease zert in the spindles before and not removed the seals. A good grease gun will push grease around the seals. It's been proven, they more like dust seals not the real deal sealed bearings.

Adding grease to those greese serts will do no good, the bearing are sealed!!!

I disagree my friend.
I proved it before that them are not hard core seals, more like dust seals and a good grease gun will push enough grease in them to keep the bearings from running dry.
