Random take from a dude that spends time in the mountains. I love red dots but in the forest i continually run into problems with fogging from body heat and debris covering the glass. I have four different dots, happens to all of them so they no longer accompany me when hunting, scouting, shed hunting etc. obviously not a problem for most people but worth a thought
We have the same issue in the south during the summer with the humidity. Anytime you walk out of the ac the dot will fog. I like red dots but still haven’t made the jump to one on my edc pistol.
I concur with irons sights not zeroed from factory! Took Tactical Cowboy Static Pistol Performance Class 3 weeks ago... I had good groups but was off to the left of target. We triple verified my sights(Devin, Tommy & myself) & found them to be off! Thanks again for a great class Devin, keep kicking ASS!!!
You guys rule. Too many of the "ex-military" guys on youtube are just grouchy and overly sensitive about everything. You have fun and train hard. Love it.
i used to be an iron sights fan.. after using a red dot for some time i became used to target focus also with iron sights when switching back to them.. now i'm using rds platform [canik] .. i think that your initial thoughts are 100% right about iron and rds.. because i am becoming adapted to run both platforms at about the same speed obtaining the same results..
It's an interesting discussion for sure, and I don't think it's as simple as when people say 'red dots are just better, get with the times'. For me, I've found that I like to have cowitness and then shoot off the irons with the dot on. It gives me a 'flash' of the dot when I bring it up quickly and gives me enough to either shoot with a bit of hope and luck, or work out where I need to be if I have time and haven't come into it quite right because of a weird angle or whatever. It really seems like a best of both worlds situation to me, and I'm surprised it's not the standard on red dot pistols.
It's never the right brightness. Finally, prefect brightness! Nevermind, I activated the X300, now I can't see the dot. Hold on.. lemme do my little clicky click. There we go. Back outside, dark alley, damn it, too bright, don't want to give away my presence with the WML. Hold up, more buttons to clicky click. I was issued a G-45 with Holosun, and.. it was good on the range, more trouble than it was worth in real world day to day patrol. No thanks. It's another thing to add to my already 40min long sign on checklist.
Interesting. Been shooting Browning Hi Powers for 40 years. I've stuck with irons because I have astigmatism, and red dots aren't dots for me. That said, out to 45 or 50 yards, I don't see appreciably better accuracy or times from my red dot shooting friends. I've got a Glock with an RMR, and it's basically a 20 MOA red sunburst. Until they come up with an optic that works for me, irons it is.
I've been thinking about sending my G17 gen 4 off to get milled or maybe trade it in for a gen 5 that comes optic ready!!! But unfortunately I live in commie Illinois so I would have to settle for a G19 gen 5 that should be compatible with all my G17 holsters!
What exactly will red dots do at six yards at 2 am when a demacrat atacks you that iron's won't?? Red dots seem fine at distance but pistol irons seem to be all you'd need.
I still rock irons. I agree in some CQB situations it can be handy but practice can make you a competent shooter. Been shooting glock for 20 years and can outshoot most of my teammates with irons.
Every force on force training we participate in or put on always creates the same results people remaining target focused and relying on their training. Very few and far between will we actually see our sights.
My opinion aligns with what Devon is saying inside 20 yds no difference, but 25 and out red dot allows me to get on target faster than irons… we shoot to 120 yds with pistol repeatedly for fun and red dot is better for me
Red dots are great. Red dots are expensive. Red dots are a great way to transition for an old man to maintain vision on targets, which, I am told it is important to always id the target as a threat and always hit what you are aiming at, the only form of gun control I support. As a kid, iron sights on long guns. 2 eyes open. Short barrels only happened when I was in the navy (1911's). Long barrels with optics is now common. If I have to insure a 100% hit rate, I use a crimson trace on my mossberg 590, 00buck. . 50 yards head shot? Since we are talking fantasy, then I have time to go get another weapon. Well, that means a long barrel, AR style with a red dot. The further out the threat, the less cleanup, just dig the hole and cover. THINK ABOUT IT. Inside the house you gotta patch, paint and mop up.. don't recommend it.
This isn’t gun related but I spend majority of the week replicating how you say stuff twice at the end of sentences. It’s pretty fun to do and listen to lol.
were making your introduction to the video, your shooting partner was making a super ball draw from the pocket in front of her!.. 😅😅😅 i like your videos and drills guys ❤

Those are very important considerations my brotha. thank you for the comment!

Are any of these enclosed red dots?
@@ryanwilliams1410 yes two are holosun eps. They are the worst for the fogging up
@@officialstephencoe crazy. That's what I run and I've run them in harsh conditions in courses and haven't had that issue yet.
You guys are putting out awesome material
Thank you we appreciate the kind words!
Agreed
Thank you so much!

Hail yeah! Gotta be about it!

I really appreciate you doing this w a stock 17 cuz its all im going to have while i save up for a slidecut/ precut slide
A stock 17 is awesome man. Be proud!
The stock 17 is still relevant today for a reason! Solid option!

Great video, gents. I would concur it’s good to cross train between iron & dots.
Would love to see your video take on co-witnessed sight shooting.

@Dillydilly956 in what sense? I haven't noticed any issues personally

@@tacticalcowboy01 I suspect Wild Bill Hickok would kill me in a pistol fight with his cap and ball revolver, so I have to agree. 🙂
i bought the delta point pro just to find out i have an astigmatism so now im back to irons haha

Great advice 👍🏻 so are zeroing your Glock/ pistols at 25 yds? Thanks and new sub here 🇺🇸

Definitely an advantage at distance!
I bought a ar, m4 clone with detachable carry handle.
I can not figure out how to sight this is. What do you recommend?
Get training at your local range!
I recommend taking a private class brother! We can go over all of the considerations for zeroing with a carry handle rear sight!

Useless for concealed carry. You will not be using a red dot facing an armed robber walking out to your car in a parking lot.
