That truck fills in the ruts as it makes them.

I was imagining Chris bringing his roller over when they finished making ruts. We had a 20 foot roller that was towed by the tractor on the farm, and it would have been heavy enough to flatten those ruts if the ground was wet. I bet a lot of farms would have something like that. We also had a roller which had loose rings instead of a drum. That was towed behind a big rotary tiller on the tractor. The tiller fluffed up the soil, and the roller compacted it just enough to seal in the moisture, and leave a perfect surface for drilling seeds.

I remember reading an SCE cost estimate for laying lines via several alternative paths. They talked about tons/cubic yard. When the dirt is wet the weight really goes up, so the yards per truck load goes way down, the number of trips and cost goes way up. You should be filling the dump truck only about 2/3 full when its hauling mud.

Soon as the bucket hits the ground he is loading and as soon as it leaves the ground he is swinging then soon as he gets to the truck he is unloading. Never a lost motion. Best thing he could teach that young man is be consistant and constant in his movements. You get more done at the end of the day.

I was wondering if that was John's long reach they'd hired? I can't see Chris ever adding one to his ever increasing fleet of dirt moving machines. Geoff Bealy has mentioned Chris expanding his knowledge and experience working on his house build. Plus we have just seen him dig the footings for the new cabin on his farm, so I am also wondering if pond dredging will form less of his workloads, and maybe get into supporting building. I think Frank Cunningham (DigginOK) would have been pleased with the job Chris made digging those trenches, and I doubt there are more than a hand full of operators who can match Frank's skills at digging trenches.
