  • This swimmer can hold 1:30/100m for 1500m and is swimming well. There's still a lot of room for improvement in his stroke that could see him get down to 1:20/100m in the next 6-12 months. The main focus would be on an earlier entry, better catch and getting the hand to align better under the shoulder. We also look at how he could find more speed with his kick by turning his feet in.

    Another great video, thank you.
    My humble suggestion, end each video with a professional swimmer swimming, instead of the amatuer swimmer. We need that closing zen feeling of seeing the stroke done right and imagine that we can do that, if we follow your suggestions.

    I discover new videos in the library that are so helpful! I watched them before going to swim practice!!

    Thanks for the tip on pointing in the toes/feet. Will work on that now & always get something out of each video to work on!

      It's crazy to think that you were already swimming 1.30. You must be doing 1.10's now after all those recommended improvements.

    Why elbow led recovery?

    Have you ever gotten ankle pains from sprint swimming?

    How about a Ballet type foot stretcher thing?
    Anyone tried it??

    Does speed depend on ankle flexibility?

    • @mspacific25
      @mspacific25 4 года назад +8

      It has a massive impact on speed. You can test this by using flippers... you will be astonished at how much quicker you will go through water.

    Hi you have great videos yet this video was supposed to be on ankles yet 99.9% of this video is on catch and recovery. Perhaps the video on catch and recovery will be on ankle flexion ??

    I don't understand how you avoid pushing down on the catch?

      Think about pushing hands back towards the feet and not down. Emulate lifting yourself out the pool.

      You hinge at the elbow. Think of pulling your body pass your arm (like climbing) rather than pushing water behind you.

      I still don't get this either!

      @@rg7035 Lie face down on the floor fully extended with one arm extended forward Superman style. Now with that arm, pull your whole body forward without lifting your body. You will bend at the elbow to push backward toward your feet. So as @anabolicmind5218 said, like climbing.

    @Effortless Swimming In my case, turning the toes inwards makes the ankles even more stiff, and over time this feels awkward for my knees. I have really been trying in making my ankles looser, but I still got issues with this. Probably just born with stiff ankles. Any other suggestions for stiff ankles?

      henrik i Hi Andrew here! There’s not really much you can do about it except keep your feet relaxed. They should naturally point a bit inwards.
      Also keep trying to stretch them to increase your flexion, don’t hurt yourself though!
      The best swimmers just have naturally good ankle flexion and that’s where your natural physiology and genetics come in.
      Hope this helps! 👍

      @@spoor24 Yes, you are quite right about the genetics. I notice this more and more, also in other areas of swimming, unfortunately. I still keep stretching several times a week (done it more regularly the last year), and apply fins from time to time too. Unfortunately just a tiny improvement, but have not given up this project yet.

      It’s not a huge deal in terms of being able to swim well! Even my feet don’t point beyond straight 👍

      Fins! They loosen the ankles guaranteed

    • @henriki8015
      @henriki8015 5 лет назад +3

      @@drmtwr Sure, I try to use them from time to time. I really have to be careful with fins, it is so easy to get addicted, and it feels crap once I take them off. Been mostly using Zoomers and then very often just a single fin in order to improve my balance and 2-beat kick.

    The video talk so little about what is in the title… 👎
