The great thing about RC cars is that you never get tired of driving them.
Because they are always broken and you are waiting for new parts.
Never before have I read something so true 😂
I have a Frankenstein RC car, way too much power to control (6s). I can't ever give it full throttle because as soon as i do it will do a backflip and if I get any speed with it and try to do a turn it just starts doing cartwheels while being launched into the air tripping over it's own front wheels. super fun and all but always broken hahaha. I usually put it in gimp mode to slow it way down. Full throttle also blows up the tyres if it's not on the ground. Thats after upgrading ALL the powertrain components to metal and some even steel. The drive shafts and axles have to be steel the plastic and aluminum just get twisted into pretzels.
@@OtakuSanel Sounds like it's too small and light for that kind of power! Tried adding some lead weights or something to it? Plastic drivetrain parts are absolute garbage, wears out instantly.
@@Wormweed I dunno I got a 5000mAH 6s battery right in the middle of it which is a big chunker and oversized wheels but it's still too much power. I had a wheelie bar on it before but that got ripped to shreds lol. it would try to flip over but hit the wheelie bar at which point all wheels went airborne and then it went all over the place since the wheeliebar doesn't really go straight. It's stupid fun though but yea always breaks. Right now my shocks are trashed (all aluminum too) so need to get a refurb kit for those
And that is why you don’t throw parts away in case something broke and you have spare parts to fix it
genius as this guy is ....I appreciate the fact he shows us where some of his ideas weren't that great....proves he's human
That’s what he wants you to think
@@Racingboom lol...probably

Idk I kinda just look at a human and know it's a human
@@Zero7141 his engineering know how is astounding though...the way he fabricates all that he needs..let alone the assembly
That's a lot of power for that little car. It's going to rip! (apart)
big time
Johnny's Loctite 603 is like ChrisFix's medium strength Threadlocker
I see youre a man of culture as well
more like Chrisfix's Soapy Wooder haha
Chris puts Threadlocker on threads that doesnt need it. Thats a big different
@@NaturalBBler every thread needs threadlocker :D
“Out with the old and in with the new”
Hearing an electric rc shift gears like that was awesome! This car is going to be very fun to drive.
Its like a much louder, more supercharged sounding dogbox or sequential.
probably more like undrivable...even single speed electric RC cars can go too fast, this will reach that state well before 50% throttle...
@@AKAtheA only one way to find out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for sharing ur feelings stuart little.
@@AKAtheA a gyro will fix that
I surprised you haven't made a mini ugga-dugga gun for the wheel lugs
You mean a dak dak?
Brapa papa
An ugga-dugga is a unit of measure.. surely you mean the ugga-duggarer?
Its called a sappa-lampapa. Get it right
And here I was just thinking it was called an impact driver 😉😁
this thing is gonna be hella speedy, good aero will probably be a must.
Next Video: I installed DRS on my RC Car
Buiz that’s actually not so hard to make with a 3D printer, the problem will be to figure out how to make it automatically engage/disengage at certain speeds
Probably won't be outrageously quick. Doubt it will be any quicker than just using a motor and a pinion without the gearbox before the over gearing results in the motor overhearing. I sure am looking forward to the results anyway.
Paul Busby I doubt that this motor will ever overheat given the fact that it's meant for 1/8 scale monster trucks with much more weight and rotational mass.
Friends don't let friends say "he'll"
That brushless combo is a bit overkill im curious to see how those plastic gears survive
spoiler - they won't. There is zero heat management in that transmission system, except belt teeth giving some airflow. But it has nowhere to go.
I'm surprised he didn't make some gears out of 4041 and apply thermal grease on them
We could rebuild him. We have the technology.
That gear shift made me smile
for a first ever rc electric car that you make, that is always a great success
It's actually his 467th one
That thing is going to accelerate like a BEAST.
Love watching your build series, the try it approach and finding things don't work and then making a work around fix.... Its great fun.
Thumbs up for the electric build! Been patiently waiting for the uploads, keep'em coming!
Always interesting to watch, keen to watch the next part
that tapping jig is awesome. one of your best projects. simple but so clean and elegant.
Nice one! I really love that you leave your mistakes in the final video so others can learn from them!
Max 8 combos are my go to esc and motor. Pretty brave of you to install it on a belt system.
Better a belt to slip than gears snap or frame bend.
This thing is going to need 3" wide soft foam tyres running on carpet to get traction. Its going to be deadly.
Or gravel tires and moist grass :D
(tore an axle on my Rustler doing that hehe, the beefy upgrade ones..)
No soft slicks foam wont have any traction on carpet
@@martin3288 initial bite with rubber is better but if you soak in death grip and get them hot, foam will stick like the start line of a drag strip!
You really inspire! I've startet to redo an old HPI savage X 4.6, and I've eyed out the exact esc/motor combo you've got there. I thing fun things are coming for us both!
Damn it’s a good day when Johnny uploads a video.
I love this channel because you dont talk for 30 minutes and then go eat noodles then do 5 minutes of work. You get straight into it.
Very excited as I am with any video you make, to see the next part :)
Okay that mistake with the ratchet was kind of fun
Always a Treat to watch you work.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Q
Hobbywing makes some of the best performance ESC's and motors I have ever experimented with
This channel...I’ve been subbed for years, and I just love watching the process.
This is going to be awesome
Awesome job on that !
Wow!!! A true Engineer!!!
Amazing! You can race with that!
Wow this is a great idea of what model it is.
That should be a monster can't wait to see what the end result is
I have the same radio, great range and very reliable!
Can't wait to see the end product. No comentating but so captivating! Keep up the great work.
Awesome bit of engineering there mate.
Very nice project!
Always happy to see a new JohnnyQ90 video!
I loved my Menace GTR. Shame it was so fast I couldn’t control it and kept on smashing it up. Looking forward to part 2!
Cool Project! I`m curious of the results! looking forward to the first tests!
Wonderful ! Simply wonderful. Thanks for sharing, mate.
I wish I had the knowledge and tools you do lol awesome
I love that you put your mistakes in as well man. I've learned so much just from your mistakes it's not even funny. Thanks for your knowledgeable videos brother!
electrism is the king vs petrol engines. I really like that you get into an electric build(way more classy) and i am looking forward to see what your magic hands will show us !!
Real skills here diy servo horn wow
Great job
Wow this is awesome keep up the good work
very interesting to see. I am eagerly awaiting the second part.
Killer build and you are a wiz on the machining and custom work. Wow! Great job 👍👍👍
That is going to be a fast car awesome build
Can’t wait for part 2!
Cool vid johnny !!!!!! Your skills are A+
congratulations for the project, execution and use of professional equipment 🚀👍
Is it keeping the gearbox in an electric car a must though? Apart from the coolness and all?
I think I've found my favorite RC Channel 👍🏾👍🏾
It makes me happy to watch things iwill never be able to afford
Great idea! I've always wondered why 2/3 speeds are not available for normal electric cars and posted it on several groups. The only answer I got is that you can switch out electric motors for faster ones but using a 2/3 speed on your existing motor saves investing in more expensive motors/esc etc. Also I like the switching sound it makes :-)
Can't wait for next vid. Nice work btw
AWESOME video!
I`m really curious as to how that nylon will hold up under load, the gear engagement seems kinda brutal, but I have no reference point for something like this hehe..
Looking forward to see how it goes :)
Best Rc build iv seen
OoOo you have an qidi xmax. Niceeee.
I would highly recommend either upgrading your radio or if that one can do it, adjust the exponential setting so you have more trigger travel in between gears.
Yea I was looking at that and I was like Jesus if you sneeze and squeeze it slightly it's already gone down the street into a car😂😂😂
Given that the gears are shifted by RPM and there was zero load on the model, I suspect it will be much further spread out in actual driving.
@@hydrochloricity true true
No he need to tighten the 2 speed clutch for later engagement
@@racingrivals8934 true!
I like videos like this with no commentary gives me asmr vibes
Besides the loud drilling
I was SO happy to see that you quietly switched to XT60 and got rid of these bad deans connectors 😊
Brake discs looks cool on cars and even cooler on RC cars
That little car may break the sound barrier. : )
Finally project starts👍
Wow,that was the LOUDEST "SNAP" I've heard in quite awhile!!! (or MAYBE it was because my throttle was up pretty loud too!?!?) But LOVED watching this build and can't WAIT for the NEXT video to see You test-drive this honey!!! Great job JohnnyQ90!!!
Very very nice! I wish they still made those
I used to have one of these..you can change the springs on the shifting arms.. stiffer spring= later shift.. then you could have second hit at around 40% throttle and 3rd hit at 70-80%. That will give you better usable gear ratio and better throttle feel instead of it basically going straight to 3rd and pulling high gear the whole time. Also will keep your motor cooler. Can't wait to see final results! Sweet build!
Yo whats the chassis/ 3 speed im firing on a time attack build with my dad, I want to first do it with a 3 speed then make itinto 5or a 6.
I love the fact that we have seen Johnny's last nitro build and are now experiencing his new electric build
I spent the whole video being mesmerized by the tools you have. I’ve never been this jealous.
Go out and start buying your own! I've got a full fab shop in my garage!!!
@@iam106racing2 I probably need a house first, but absolutely.
You really are quite brilliant!
JQ: Those standard tyres will last precisely 10 seconds. They’ll probably turn into pizza cutters and blow at high speed. Definitely recommend foam tyres, even if you need to get small ones and glue them onto large wheels. These might do the trick but Kyosho / Ofna 1/8 scale wheels tend to be quite large: www.ebay.com/itm/RC-4Pcs-Light-Foam-Tires-Nylon-Wheel-17mm-Hex-Set-For-HSP-1-8-Scale-Racing-Car/372401741806?hash=item56b4df9fee:g:wMUAAOSwFLBaWCy5 You’ll need to turn them down and the hexes will probably be the wrong size too, but foam has FAR less rotational inertia and a high speed blowout causes a LOT of damage! You might also consider GRP or Sweep brand belted slicks. They tend not to balloon. ruclips.net/video/fI5o78CqIyw/видео.html
FYI, Schumacher did make an electric GTR, called the GTRe, but it only had a brushed 540 motor. www.rcscrapyard.net/schumacher-menace-gtre.htm

Just needs to get banded tyres
or, hear me out, he can 3d print some TPU tires with Nylon (cause of its durability) inserts and glue them to whatever wheels.you can control what kind of crowning you get, or even eliminate the crowning all together with some clever engineering. That is the beauty of 3d printers.
That is going to be SO fast
the moment i saw your lathe, i subbed. great content
Love all the engineering that you do , I've been building and racing RC car all my life , you need to properly setup your radio and ESC , your settings are off that is why you have full throttle at 20% once this is adjusted correctly the car will be easier to drive.
Can’t wait till the next vid👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Best of luck I really like what you do
mam that issue with first gear not disengaging is something we all wouldve over looked, i think everyone has done something similar. the classic, wow that seems like a simple fix then the wow i see what it was the way it was before. glad to see you owning up to it bc its easy to hide in a yt video, but we are all human and are lying if we say we havnt done that. great video though, i cant wait for part 2, i love your builds
Weird seeing electric but those brushless motors have the power nice build looking forward to the next phase.
I love you work please keep up the great work
Love your work shop, you have a lot of amazing machines no wonder you do amazing work
Awesome ! Your videos are a joy to watch.
Teach me my master! amazing build! thank you!
Well done.
Good choice of motor/ESC. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this thing hits 100mph
Epic! Always entertaining to watch
Thank you for not ruining this video with annoying repetitive music :)
Nice work
Your channel and your work 👌🏻👌🏻
I don't know much about the RC hobby but you do nice clean work. Thanks for the interesting video!
Amazing as always. I do appreciate all the automated machines and glad you have manuals as well. However, I wonder what you use for CAD CAM software.
That's a very nice car, I have a few myself I haven't ran in some time. Some nitro some brushless. Sooner or later I'll upload some videos of the aluminum parts I'm making for the cars. Awesome video.
P.s what's the marking caliper called? I want one of those
Yo whats the car call / trans I want to do a time attack build with my dad.
That is an amazing set up you have really skilful
1st guy in my life i see drill and tap a servo horn. Attention to detail is nuts.
A tip for setting the height on your mill: Take a piece of paper and put it between the gap of the plate and the mill. When the paper gets scratched you are 0,1mm away from the surface. This saves your cutting edge. Nice work, keep it up =)
Excelente trabajo esperamos ver el resultado final le envio un saludo desde Venezuela.
This is going to be a ROCKET!
Awesome! I used to have this car. Many years a go though. It was nitro and super fast. Very hard to handle lol
