I've said it before, you are bringing new life to those species which many of us in Eastern Ontario would find mundane. Your videos are a good reminder to enjoy each and every wildlife viewing opportunity. Another great video Richard.

Thanks very much Peter, I did think to myself that this video isn't really going to appeal to many people especially ones from North America but it's done surprisingly well, lol....I still wanted to give these little beauties the spotlight for a bit, all nature needs appreciating regardless of how common they are. Glad you enjoyed it. Rich 👍

Thanks Raymond, great to have them so close and spend some time with the more commoner species. All nature needs to be appreciated. Thanks again for watching, always love hearing from the regular viewers. Cheers Rich

    Great find and footage!
Marmots are soo cute! I’ve yet to see the woodchuck but it seems to look quite similar to the yellow-bellied marmots I’ve seen. Great to see the little critters getting some love! ~Dee

Thanks very much, such an overlooked specie here in Toronto and sad to see people do their best to eradicate them from there homes! Very similar aren't they. Thanks for watching R👍

I can sure think of millions of ways to while away the day but not many more fun than lying back in a field photographing groundhogs! LOL What a life, huh? We don't have groundhogs here in Florida but we've plenty of squirrels that tear apart my peanut bird feeders. The groundhogs are much cuter! Really looking forward to seeing all the places you plan to visit. Keep the videos coming, Rich!

      Hey June,
I'm with you on that one, it's City life but it's amazing how nature finds a way to coexist with us, not all people enjoy them but they are here and sadly not doing well in Toronto due to habitat loss, that isn't a surprise due to the rapid expansion on this big city! Thanks for following my journey, all the best Rich 😀

That was perfect! It's funny watching them... when they move their legs/arms, you can see the muscle lines below the fur! They're like buff powerlifter squirrels 😂
I gave it a go at filming them too this year! About a minute clip on my RUclips acct in full sun, me laying on my stomach free-handed 📷
I think I just flicked the video mode into automatic settings, animal tracking focus

That's wonderful! All of them around my place are a reddish color due to the red clay that we have in north Georgia. They are super skittish most of the time. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, we call them whistle pigs as you listed. Tons of them here in upstate South Carolina. They really are spooky though and faster than people might think. They usually have a half dozen boroughs and lots of tunnels to make fast escapes. Adults are too big for raptors to take but if a hawk shadow passes over one, they are quickly underground. I suppose they learn that when they are young and the lesson never seems to fade.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  4 месяца назад

Thanks very much Phillip, I'm guessing they are pretty common all over North America but they are declining here in Toronto due to all the building, loosing masses of habitat! Really sad to hear about that! Yeah, any bird of prey overhead will certainly scatter them. Thanks for watching. Rich 😀

Kind of funny, I could say that I had never seen someone in full camo in a local park, but actually I have. I almost stepped on a fellow photographer one morning by a local waterway. That stuff really works 🙂. Cheers, Phil

Thanks Phil, yeah that might of been a tad overkill but it's always so comfy and adds that bit of Camo if required! Did get a few funny looks, back home in Cornwall it's never a problem. Lol Cheers R👍

Thanks Keith and not a problem, glad you can catchup, which reminds me I am missing your atest so will watch this weekend. I know, it's only a pest when it becomes problematic when all they are trying to do is survive! Bit sad really. Cheers Rich

Cheers Rich, good to see the groundhogs. Always fun and interesting to watch and learn from nature and wildlife. Shame some species are viewed as pests, a little more effort on the part of us humans would make a massive difference. All the best. 👍📷😎
