It's amazing how family history repeats itself. Papa Bauer himself reminded Bert that when she married Papa's son, Bill, she's a Bauer. Years later, Bert reminded Rita that when she married Bert's son, Ed, she's a Bauer as well. Wow!
I thought some pastor's family (the Ruthledges) was the original family (during the radio days). That pastor's advice sought after by folks when they saw his office lamp switched on was the "guiding light" for his community
No need to apologize for the poor video and audio quality of these early "GL" episodes. It couldn't be helped; at the time these episodes aired live, the only way to preserve live TV shows was by means of kinescopes(films taken off of monitors in the studio).
Yes she was and always wanted to live a high class life with a husband who had trouble holding down a job and getting her to that status. She drove Bill Bauer to drink. Over the years she did change after almost loosing both of her sons because of her meddling ways. She became the Bert we know and love ❤️
Truth be told I’m the radio days it was Paster Ruthledge, who had the guiding light in his window. He was a pastor raising his daughter and adopted son. This was before the Bauers. On the first episode of the Guiding light his voice is the first voice you hear and then they introduced his family.

I began watching the Guiding Light at 4 years old.
Papa Bauer was simply the Best. And his lilting German accent was "Wunderbar"!!

Bert was something else back in the day.
She was such a nag. By the time I started looking she was totally different. She was a matriot.
Bert Bauer was quite a schemer back in the day!

Didn’t that eventually become the CEO’S office at Spaulding?
It sure does look similar, that's for sure. But I have a feeling it isn't the exact same set.
Meta is so tall. I think she used to be a model before she married.
