  • This is a basic intro to the way some bands in various Industrial sub-genres get their vocal sound. I just wanted to toy around with my newest gear and give some examples.

    I typically use a pitchshifter, some reverb, and a digital delay. The delay gives my voice a very clangy metallic twinge to it.

    Also don't forget double tracking vocals, summing the to one track then adding these effects

    wow man, that really enlightened me alot. I was thinking maybe singing regular, or well, scream-singing then add pitch and stuff, but this really makes more sense than what I was thinking. haha ^^
    Hope you get good at vocals :)

    what processors/rack units did you use for the effects?

    • @WolfxxBite
      @WolfxxBite  8 месяцев назад +1

      I know I mentioned them during the live stream last night, but just in case anyone else wanted the info: I used the BOSS SE-50 for Pitch Shifting, and an old Alesis FX unit to add other things like delay. Later on I also got a BOSS SE-70 which is like an upgraded SE-50 with more Pitch Shifting layers in the Pitch Shifter (it also has FX chains you can use to get multiple FX at one time)

      Also there are articles that say they run his voice through two DBX 160's the first the output is cranked and the second is used to control the dynamics of the first. Creating a distorted fx. It's said to be subtle on soft parts and aggressive on loud parts. I tried this trick with a ART VLA. It's a dual unit so I just fed one side into the other. Sounded pretty cool. I'd like to know what FX he uses on Just On Fix. Almost sounds like a Phaser but not quite.

      @@kevingregoire2764 Thanks for getting back to me. I think I read an article in Tape Op mentioning the chained compressors. I also know they used the Eventide H3000 and its successors a ton.

  • @brianjustbrian7216

    He is wrong! Do not do this unless you are experimenting in the studio. You need to use 2 compressors anywhere in the vocal mix line, or doubled up in a processor to smash the vocals with the first one, preferably at a ratio complimentary to the singers "break point" for screaming. Then reamplify with the 2nd one. That's how they do it. Maybe adding some reverb, chorus or pitch shifting AFTER.

    • @brianjustbrian7216
      @brianjustbrian7216 5 лет назад +1

      P.S. Doing it this way will give you a controllable unity gain, unlike stacking multiple FX & hoping the house sound guy doesn't EQ your mix into oblivion.

    • @SomeOne-pd6vm
      @SomeOne-pd6vm Год назад +1

      it's probably good to also put an EQ before the first compressor to cut out the low end that you don't want, so the compressor isn't working harder than it needs to on frequencies you're going to cut out in the mix anyways. but yeah, i think this is a really old tutorial, and someone definitely needs to come out with a new one.

    • @brianjustbrian7216
      @brianjustbrian7216 Год назад +1

      @@SomeOne-pd6vm very true. An EQ in the chain would definitely save some legwork during mixing & mastering. Good call.

    I wasn't aware nobody knew this. Effects processors have been used for vocal altering for many decades. This type of processing is typically used in Metal except for "Reverb" which is used in all genres for vocals AND the individual tracks going through a mixing console.
    "..I got my hat on to hide my identity cause I'm gonna be laughed at for doing this but you know, whatever.."
    Well, if you're attitude is "whatever" then, you wouldn't be hiding now, would you? LOL!
