I am baffled by the people who get angry at you for talking about your shop, the cottages, or where you’re selling your product locally. You generously share many DIY projects, cleaning, cooking, decorating etc. etc.. If you didn’t, you know people would be bugging you to tell them where they can get your products!

I think painting the brick white would be beautiful. Your home is surrounded with lush greens and colorful flowers that having your home all white it would stand out more. It also would lighten it up and not look so dark under the deck.

Tips for keeping branch stems fresher longer: Cut stem ends at a forty-five degree angle. This increases the surface area for water uptake. Drop a pre-1982 penny into the water. The copper acts an a fungicide. (Pre-1982 pennies are 95% copper; post-1982 pennies are mostly zinc with copper plating.) Add sugar to the water for food. If you don't have a pre-1982 penny, use white vinegar as a fungicide. For a large vase mix 2 tablespoons white vinegar and 2 tablespoons sugar. Add the vinegar/sugar mixture to the water. Change water every two to 3 days using room temperature water. Ice water can be shocking.

Mary, my daughter had a very ugly orange brick on the front of her home in Maryland. I went for a month to help her with the outside including landscape. That brick caused a lot of research. We decided to stain it with a dark cement stain. We had the rest of the exterior complete when we completed that process. That evening we were working on the landscape when all the neighbors started to stop by. Such a transformation. Neighbors all thought it had been defaced in a day & could not believe it was stain. The dark stain caused different colors to come out in the brick, all muted & so elegant. Seven years later & looks great. Enjoy doing your transformation on that brick. We played a bit on it in an area that was not so noticable to get what we wanted in the look. Great inexpensive transformation in a short time!

For the brick, I think a limewash rather than paint. Just a lot more natural and keeps the character of the brick while brightening it up.

I/we would love to see a video on how to make an arbor and a trellis out of twigs from the woods, I love the idea of taking things from nature and re-purposing them to make beautiful things. YES PLEASE!!! As for painting the brick white, maybe a Germany Schmeer technique. It's not all white and maybe less scary that way.

Hi! I am a member of the flower committee at church and we use quite a bit of greenery and branches from our yards. Something I’ve learned is that newer, younger leafed branches and cuttings tend to wilt very quickly as opposed to more mature cuttings. So, you might want to try cuttings that are older and mature to see if they’ll last longer!

I think that paint would look SO SO PRETTY on your brick on the lower half of your house. I’d do it, I don’t think you’d be disappointed. I also think the white wash would look good on brick for your cottages for the fireplace. Bees at your orchard would 🐝 great. Mary your so AWESOME 😎!

As a florist this is how we treat any type of branch or woody type stem. Cut stem at 45 degree angle. Cut an 'X' from the bottom up about 1/2 to 1 inch long and then you can also smash the end with a hammer. This allows the maximum amount of water to travel up the stem and of course use a flower food that will feed it and also help cut back on bacterial production. Change out with fresh water every couple of days and re- cut stems.😊💐

Hi Mary ~ I am like you with painting brick. I want to, but what “if” I don’t like it when done…LOL!!! I vote yes because I know yours will be nice .
My oldest brother is a beekeeper, and he is busy busy busy as a bee caring for them. But yummy Honey is the reward.
I think the people who are allergic to Bees carry their EpiPen with them when out walking or at least close at hand. So I wouldn’t worry about people and the Bees. People have Bees on their wildflowers and tree blossoms around their homes. People will carry their pens with them 👍

I painted my fireplace, because it was such a dark black hole in the corner, it came out lovely, I added some crème color and white variation to some of the darker bricks . Concerning painting the cottage brick white. I once owned a brink home close the the beach. I painted the brick white and the shutters a very dark navy blue. The front door had an oval stained glass. I painted the rest of the door white. Mary it totally gave my home a face lift. It was lovely before but after it was dreamy. I have a suggestion. Take a few sections of the brick and tack white sheets up. Step back and see if you like it. I live your channel. I'm planning to order some candles. Enjoy your summer. Pamela

Hi Mary, A suggestion for you about painting the brick. If you're finding it hard to take the leap, try a test run first with chalk. Add the chalk to water and paint it on, or, color the chalk on and go over it with a damp paint brush for a white washed look. It will hose off. Good Luck!

I too am wanting to paint my brick. I struggle with it everyday! I have white board & batten under my porch & absolutely love it but want it all to flow. I think you should go for it. Would really look awesome & stand out with all your gorgeous landscaping & give it that cottage look even more that you love! 🌿

My father, grandfather, uncle and cousins we’re all bricklayers and they would never consider painting brick, but that being said, you should do what would make you happy. When it is not a nice brick color you love, you need to love what you are looking at day after day. I just purchased my first candle from your Etsy shop and I love it, it smells so wonderful. I appreciate when you talk about your products, especially so we know when something new is available.

Hi Mary. Love all your videos and enjoy the Q&A. Don't be scared to paint the brick. When we bought our house it had tan siding and some brick the same colour as yours. We changed the siding to a light grey and painted the brick a deeper shade of grey. The contrast is lovely and really pulled it all together.

Have you ever considered painting your brick a shade of green. It is really popular in the south. Also smashing or cutting slits in the end of your branches helps them to absorb more water.

I had my brick white washed by a professional company. They used flat water down paint, sprayed on then sponged down. Gave the house an updated look. Love watching your videos Mary.

Branches need more surface area to "drink" water. Once you've cut the branch on a diagonal, hammer the end to split it apart so there is more area available to allow for greater water absorption.

I would paint the brick. I know you like white, and I do as well, but with the brick being on the bottom you could paint it black too. I've seen some brick painted black and it looks nice.

"No" to painting the bottom of the cottage. It's nice-looking as is and it's fun to see a spot of brick in your videos now and then. You have so many other beautiful projects and priorities. Enjoy getting your cottages ready and your soap-making; save the brick-painting for later.

In our last house, just as you step outside the conservatory, there was a little sitting area. The trouble was the brickwork (similar colour to yours) and I decided one day to go and buy some outdoor white masonry paint and got to and painted up to (what we call first floor level). It was the best thing I did; it brightened up the whole area and made sitting there very pleasant (it didn't catch much sun).

I think your brick would look great lime washed, allowing for some of the color and texture to show through a bit. See what they did on Fixer Upper and Hometown when they did it!!

Oh Mary Great video, as for the bee's you should make a insect hotel something the size of a wood stack, around 3ft .. it would like fabulous in the Orchard.
Yes you should do it,paint the brick or white wash it,if it doesn't turn out you haven't lost anything as your not keen on it now at least it would be different 😊 what about getting some of the same brick and treat them first to see how the brick reacts to the paint...that way you will have a tiny insight to what it will be like.
How adorable naming your cat after the actor ☺ very sweet.
Take care and have a good week.

There will be more people visiting with you that are not allergic to bees Than those who are. You can always add that in your listing on Airbnb. I can’t wait Until they are open! My husband and I enjoy that area but we are three hours away. I will definitely look into your cottages when trying to find a place to stay.

Good evening Mary! Here’s your nudge! Go paint the brick white! You will love it! Years ago, we painted our fireplace brick in our LR and it made the biggest and best difference! I’ve never looked back! 💕

I love the idea of using a white mortar wash on brick. A lot of our more historic neighborhoods have it on their brick, and it just has a lovely effect.
