Im in Texas and I call Bluegill....BLUEGILL. Perch, not a term I i use much. But then, I know what a Bluegill is.
I grew up knowing bluegill, war mouth, and general sunfish as perch. I'm from Texas but I have learned better since. I still call them perch colloquially though lol.
Same. Although maybe you could say the striping is the same, Perch and Sunfish are in different Families.

I identify with your channel so much because if I were a RUclipsr, I think that I would take the same approach as you. It kind of bums me out that you are not getting the views and likes that you deserve. Watching Ryder say, "Amen!" at the end of the prayer was the highlight for me in this video. Majority of the flies have stayed together well, but some of the rainbow warriors did unravel after catching a few blue gill. All in all, this was a great kit and are so happy with the purchase and value for money.

Nothing better than a big ole brim on a fly rod. Ima fan of the elk hair and if the double rig with a popper on top. I just always seem to mess up the tandem tieing 🤦♂️. That grasshopper fly was putting in the work on the plate fillers.. 👊🏼👊🏼. I love making videos like this, almost as much as i live watching the excitement in videos like this. Great work fellas. @@cohenj87 see in the south where we live there are names for things etc I’m sure it’s that way where you live as well, but down here we aren’t idiotic when someone doesn’t call something what we think it should be called. So it’s a Perch here and you are proving your idiocy. So keep calling it whatever you want down south it’s a perch.

I get how it might have started, but Sunfish (Centarchidae) are not in the Perch (Percidae) family... Great video though!
What I do is boil my blue gill with butter and season in my firebox zebra pot... it's bomb... but want I love just to deep fry it... bluegill deep fry bomb

Man I can’t find eater sized perch to save my life here in the Austin area.
Try around Buda by the old railroad tracks. There used to be a spot in a low water crossing loaded with rio grande perch/cichlid.

As someone who watches people fishing up north those are bluegill. Yellow perch are so much cooler than bluegill but im not catching them in Missouri. People should just refer to them as thier scientific name lepomis macrochirus.

Why do you call them perch? In SD we have actual yellow perch and bluegills. They look nothing alike lol.
Those look more like a hybrid bream the ear is too long to be a bluegill.
Bluegill are shorter and more round in shape.
And perch are longer, or so I've read on the internet 🤷
To me those look like bream.

They aren't perch though. They are a sunfish species. Perch are in the walleye family. You are doing a disservice to sportsmen by misidentifying a species. That's like rule #1 of hunting and fishing is knowing how to identify what your after.
