- For this video I am reviewing the Grand Seiko SBGN023 limited edition GMT (9F tough quartz watch). The retail price is very steep, but you can get them on the used market for a great price, which would be worth it for a grab-and-go luxury watch.

One thing I'd like to see from GS next is a zero-reset mechanism on their quartz models. These watches are so accurate, it would make perfect sense to make setting the time that much easier.
The lack of micro adjustments is weird 😮
Agree. Criminally under appreciated. Glad you got it for a good price. Wish more GS watches had 20mm spacing.
Thanks for your feedback. Agree the 20mm lug spacing is refreshing on this GS👍
Thank you for this review, nice dress watch.
Awesome watch but pricey, Thanks for the video 👍
I purchased a new SBGN019 this past Christmas at a discount. I love it. The bracelet fits perfect on my 7.5” wrist with 1 large link and 2 small links removed. 161 grams on bracelet and 96 grams on strap. This is a lifetime watch for me. These models have been discontinued for the US market. They are no longer shown on the GS website.
To me a quartz for a gmt makes sense since accuracy and dependability are important when travelling ✈️
I recently purchased this watch while visiting Japan. Perfect momento of a great trip. I love the typical Grand Seiko attention to detail and super high quality finish. The Japanese do these things so well. The beautifully finished quartz movement with its "set and forget" accuracy is great in a GMT. I don't find any problems with the slightly protruding gold medallion on the case back, and like that I know it's hiding there and I can admire it at will by taking off the watch. It adds something special to the ownership experience. It's a stunning watch, and perfectly compliments my SBGA211 Snowflake. Now to get an automatic to complete my GS collection.
is your dial black or a dark brown?
Dial is almost black in some circumstances, and brown in others. It depends on how much light there is and what direction it's coming from.
Handsome watch.
I am actually wearing my SBGN023 as I'm watching this video! I went with this quartz version (vs. the spring drive version) as I thought maintenance cost would be a lot lower with the quartz version. Mine does ca. +5sec per year... The great thing about the movement on this watch is that you don't have to stop the watch to adjust the date (for shorter months), or to adjust the hour for DST.
is your dial black or a dark brown? Most refer to it as black but it certainly looks different than the other black dial version with the red chapter ring/gmt hand
@@pacmancalgary It is black, but the dial has radial lines, as such if you look at the dial under the sun, you'll get some mixing effect. The splash of gold colour on the rehaut will mix with the black under the sun, making the dial appear yellow gold-ish/brownish at certain angles.
very nice
Good review. I managed to get one from GS Boutique. Didn’t have any issue wearing it on my 17mm wrist ( most sport GMT will be too big for me..Definitely under appreciated
17mm is a super small wrist for a human.
is the dial brown or a black?
The only thing I don’t like on this version is the date window. Date windows on the heritage line have a nice frame around them. Dealbreaker for me as GS has the best detail work on the dial except that 1 window
Grand Seikos are amazing quality, but the certainly need to at least at a microadjustment system with the clasp.
I picked this up a couple of months ago at a great price, second hand. The case design is unique, and the bracelet matches perfectly (and is integrated very well to the case). Only knock - I’d say the dial wears black 70-80% of the time. But then when the pattern pops, it actually stops you and you begin to smile. BTW, what nato brand names (yellow and black) are you wearing in the video? They really look sharp!
Thanks for the feedback. The NATO is a yellow ribbed version from Strap Mill Canada
@@EverydayWatchGuy Cheers! I'll look into it.
so the dial looks black in most light until it's under bright light and then it's brown?
@@pacmancalgary I wouldn't say bright light necessarily ... but certain lighting conditions. The radial pattern you see in the promo pictures is static, so it always appears brown. The reality (to my eyes) is different.
Agreed on too bulky. There is a possible compromise available: SBGP015. It is the 60th Anniversary Lim. Ed. (but still available first-hand retail, at least in Toronto, $5100 CAD). The SBGP015 has the same sport case profile, but thinner, and though it's not a GMT, the 9F85 movement allows to move the date-linked hour hand independently. That is the GMT without the fourth hand. But that may be apples to oranges for other people.
Thanks for your insight and great alternative GS model👍
@@EverydayWatchGuy BTW, I forgot to say "good video". But I mean it. You always make good videos.
What does ‘too bulky’ mean? 12.4 mm versus 13.2 mm thick is not a lot of difference between the two. I hope you don’t wear G Shocks. Even my square is 13.5 mm thick. My round is 16.1 mm thick. You would hate G Shocks. >13 mm is normal for most mechanical watches. One would have to love the color Blue to wear the SBGP015. It's a lot of blue.
@@pittss2c601 less than 11mm is ideal, like my SBGP007. But that’s not a sport model. I concede that sports models are going to be bigger, but it has to look like there is purpose to the shape; These GS sport models are chiselled angular chunks of steel. That makes them look bulky and oversized.
@@mybrainlikesthings The SBGP007 is an awesome watch especially if you’re an accuracy snob like me. That’s a thin watch. On my 7.5” wrist with my 6’3” frame the sport collection’s chiseled angular chunk of steel looks perfect on me. My wife’s 34 mm SBGX347 looks like a nickel on my wrist. The elegance collection does not work for me. Conversely, my SBGN019 looks ridiculous on my wife’s 6.5” wrist and thin 5’5” frame. You should try the Tokyo Lion. That’s a big, thick chunk of metal.
When releasing too many limited editions, its not exclusive anymore. This is just another way to milk the customers
Too thick on the case and another bad bracelet. I want to like GS so much and I just don’t get how they miss things like this.

@@pittss2c601 I guess I have been spoiled by my Yachtmaster and Silent Service for thinness. Thank you for your Silent Service review I absolutely love that watch.
@@KickoStocks 13.9 mm and 12.1 mm thick respectfully. You call those thin? My wife's GS SBGX347 is only 10.7 mm thick. That's a thin watch. Any watch around 10 mm or less is thin.
@@pittss2c601 On what planet does a quartz watch need to be over 14mm thick? It is craziness
@@KickoStocks This planet that we live on. Almost all Casio G Shocks. I don't know of any Grand Seiko quartz >14 mm thick. Most diver quartz watches are thick. Seiko Tuna quartz diver is 16.3mm thick.
disgusting date window
All i can say is hard pass.
URGH BIG BLOCK OF METAL, must be a common joke in Japan because it's about time 🕖 they limited their limited editions everything they aim at the West is limited edition!!!!!!
