    I watched Ratatouille again recently and picked up on a pretty good, and honestly pretty subtle bit of foreshadowing. In the scene where Colette is showing Linguini the ropes around the kitchen, she puts emphasis on the fact that “you’re not supposed to cook like mommy.” At the end of the film when the critic eats the ratatouille, however, it reminds him of a time when his mother made the dish for him as a child. So, despite the fact that Colette constantly told Linguini that he wasn’t supposed to cook “like mommy”, it was cooking “like mommy” that ended up saving the day in the end. Just something I picked up on; I don’t know if other people picked up on this, but I thought that it was really clever.

      +Sophia D I agree, if anything the latter scene helps to remind them why they cook in the first place, giving the 'perspective' Ego wants. Doing something with passion helps to create a memorable experience, which is what a chef seeks from their diner. It also shows how simple done well can be so much better than fancy.

      If you think about it, Edna designed all of the super suits, so all of those deaths are inadvertently her fault, so the 1st super who comes for a suit in years, she doesn't want history to repeat itself and have more blood on her hands. Also, there is a fan theory that Syndrome came to her for his super suit, but (sensing he might be lying to her about why he wants it) she gave him a cape knowing it could backfire on him.

      How does it add shock and value? The movies would have the same quality if it didn't have the foreshadowing, so it doesn't add value, and you don't realize that it was foreshadowed until you watch it again, so it doesn't add any shock value.

    • @MrChannelforwatching
      @MrChannelforwatching 5 лет назад +10

      Oly1y Foreshadowing does add value, since you'll be able to rewatch a film and notice the subtle hints of the ending, which will change the overall experience. It's a really clever technique that also gives characters a lot more depth to their actions throughout the movie. That's why Frozen's twist for Hans kinda fell short for me. It literally came out of nowhere. Yeah, he had motive and the gloves he wore symbolised a secret he was keeping, but nothing was revealed from his actions as a character leading up to it. So there was no satisfaction of the viewer rewatching the film for clues.

    Not bad, but you missed a few things!
    - In Coco, Ernesto's guitar has a skull with a gold tooth... just like the guitar's true owner, Hector.
    - In Wreck-It-Ralph, Turbo's car can be seen in the data cloud where King Candy retrieves Ralph's medal.
    - Hans is said to be Disney's version of the cursed mirror from The Snow Queen, the book on which Frozen is based. Hans' behavior "mirrors" those he interacts with; he's adorkable around Anna, a courageous leader around Elsa, and aggressive around the Duke. He reveals his true nature while he's looking at his reflection.
    - Frozen also employs a visual cue: gloves in theater often represent a person having a secret. In Frozen, that's Elsa and Hans.

    • @michaeloptv
      @michaeloptv 6 лет назад +8

    They forgot one other piece of foreshadowing for Wreck-It-Ralph: Characters from older games throughout the movie mention the phase “Going Turbo”. To reference the cautionary tale of Turbo and how his jealousy, selfishness and greed led to his and rival game’s infamous downfall. It was basically used as a warning to newer characters, usually told by older characters in hopes that the past won’t repeat itself. Remember Felix had to explain what it meant to Calhoun because her game had just got plugged in recently in the beginning of the movie. But the fact King Candy not only was able to use the phrase perfectly, to describe what he believed what Ralph was doing (with his game jumping), without sounding out of place foreshadowed his true nature.
    Sugar Rush wasn’t even plugged in when that incident took place, just like Hero’s Duty. Which explains why after Vanellope’s glitching accidentally revealed true form/identity, she didn’t even know who he was but Ralph and Felix automatically knew because they have been in the arcade for 30 years.

      Except That's not forshadowing....like....at all.
      Foreshadowing is if a character says on day 1 "oh boy I hope a giant frog wont kill me"
      And then a giant frog kills him at the end - it foretells the future,but it doesn't base it,and it is not necessery for the plot to work - you can not write it in
      If it were - the character saying "Giant frogs frequantly drop from the sky" it's just an expalantion of the lore
      This is the same - Ralph is just explaining part of the lore/plot
      Imagine he hadn't told her about "Going Turbo" and you just reach the end of the movie with this guy Turbo appearing and you have no fucking clue he is. It is a necessity to the plot.
      Same how just 'cuz they talked about Voldemort and his deeds, doesn't mean it was a foreshadow for him coming back

    • @jidtoons
      @jidtoons 6 лет назад +23

      Now that you mention it, no one in Sugar rush knew the term "going Turbo" (or even game-jumping, I bet) except King Candy; given that Sugar rush was new to the arcade years after Turbotime (and Roadblasters) was unplugged, if candy were a legitimate character, he'd would have no clue what that term meant
      I doubt that his age difference with that of the other Sugar Rush inhabitants has to do with his true nature (as this clip points out), as game characters don't age, though they may be referring rather to the fact he has little to no resemblance with the other racers' anime style that exists in the game; he looks more like an American "screwball"-type character from a Golden-Age cartoon

    Friends on The Other side had tons of foreshadowing.
    I mean just look at the lyrics at one point.
    "...Now y'all gotta get hitched, but hitchin' ties you down. You just wanna be free, hop from place to place. But freedom takes green.
    It's the green, It's the green, It's the green you need. And when I look into your future it's the green that I see."
    not to mention when Facilier says it 'takes green' she shows a card with Naveen on a lillypad.
    And then a second time shortly after when Dr Facilier is talking about Lawrence.
    "But in your future the you I see, is exactly the man you always wanted to be."
    Referencing Lawence basically taking Naveens identity.
    Its just augghhh so good.

    • @ThKvhh
      @ThKvhh 5 лет назад +5

      Thats why i love the english version of this song (since i speak spanish, i had to watch it in spanish) because actually Facillier's word playing makes sense and can be interpretated.
      The translation of the latin spanish version lost the "green" matter and thats why at first i couldnt tell Naveen was going to be turned into a frog.
      I think the start of the movie also had a bit of foreshadowing, because Tiana when was a child was using a green dress (color she wasn't using afterwards) with a paper tiara, and in the ending of the movie she was using a green dress with a real tiara once again.

    Other foreshadowing moments:
    Frozen: In the beginning, when the parents go to the Trolls to heal Anna's frozen head injury, they said they were lucky it wasn't her heart that was frozen. Guess what happens to Anna later in the film?
    Wreck it Ralph: In the Hero's Duty game, Calhoun mentions that the cy-bugs become whatever they eat, which comes into play in the climax when King Candy is eaten by a bug and becomes a giant bug monster.
    Hunchback of Notre Dame: Frollo almost burning Esmeralda at the stake is foreshadowed in two scenes; during the Hellfire song where he says "she will be mine or she will burn," and when he burns Quasimodo's small wooden sculpture of her.
    Beauty and the Beast: In the Gaston song, he says no one "takes cheap shots" like Gaston. During the climactic battle, Gaston takes a couple cheap shots at the Beast; when the latter is too depressed to fight back, and when he reunites with Belle.

    I just GOTTA say both these things.
    1. Mufasa isn't the only one who can predict the future. Zazu can, too! He mentions that Scar would make "a very handsome throw rug" and then in the movie Hercules, Herc is seen to be wearing a very familiar lion skin...EASTER EGG ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. There is more evidence implying the truth about King Candy. When Felix is telling the story of Turbo, you hear Turbo shout his catchphrase - repeatedly - in KING CANDY'S voice. Also, when KC accuses Ralph of going Turbo (says the man himself!) he seems to know an awful lot about what Turbo had been up to and seems very quick to jump to conclusions...
    Another one is when KC is exiting the code room after stealing the medal from the cup, they MADE SURE we saw, in the corner, Vanellope's code box, looking as though it's had the wires ripped out of it. And that could only have been done by someone who had access to the code room. And the only person who did was guess who. No prizes.
    And of course, going back to the "pink palace" issue, when Ralph points it out, Candy gets all defensive all of a sudden and seems very keen to change the subject - two sure-fire signs that there's something he's not telling us. Almost as if the entire place was designed for a little girl...oh wait, it was.
    It should have been obvious. It really should.

And since Ralph had never met King Candy before then, it would mean that KC rarely, if ever, left Sugar Rush, even after closing time at the arcade. How could he possibly know what “going Turbo” means unless he caused the term himself?

Also if you pay close attention to Turbos backstory scene, when Turbo keeps repeating his catchphrase, you can kinda recognize it as Alan Tudyk (King Candys VA)!

    "Love is an open door" also takes on a more sinister meaning when Hans sings it - He mocks Anna at the end of the movie for being so desperate for someone to love her. Her desperation literally created an "open door" (read: opportunity) for Hans to take advantage of. She's singing of love, and Hans is literally declaring his scheme. Love is an open door, indeed.

    As good as this list is, I think it missed one bit of foreshadowing that was from "The Jungle Book" that concerns man's red fire. During the number of "I Wanna be Like You", King Louie attempts to give Mowgli the secret of the fire that he believes would make him human. The fire turns out to have separated man from beast since Mowgli used fire to defeat Shere Kahn and it also led Mowgli out of the Jungle and into the man village.Also in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", Grumpy called the evil queen an old witch. Guess what the queen turned into later on in the movie?And also in "Aladdin" and during the song "One Jump Ahead", the title hero escaped the guards by flying out the window using a carpet he got. This foreshadows Aladdin and Abu meeting the magic carpet.

    I noticed a small “blink and you miss it” moment of foreshadowing when rewatching Coco. In the first attempt to return Miguel home, the marigold petal glows after Mama Imelda says she will give Miguel her blessing. However, when Ernesto does the same to return Miguel home, the marigold petal never glows, because Ernesto and Miguel aren’t related by blood. This moment is easy to miss, because Hector enters immediately after this happens, panning the camera way from Miguel and Ernesto. While it happens right before the big reveal, it may give you a small hint of what’s to come if you catch this small detail. It also could make you think about what would’ve happened if Hector never entered at that moment, as Miguel most likely would have seen that the petal isn’t glowing.

    In Tarzan, Sabor and Clayton have the same color scheme. Also, Sabor getting tangled in the net at the beginning is foreshadowing Clayton getting tangled in the vines at the end. Plus Sabor, an animal, gets tangled up in something man-made, while Clayton, a man, gets tangled up in nature.

    I was actually more impressed with one of Stinky Pete’s other lines when he says “do you really think that Andy will take you to college or on his honeymoon? “ to Woody. When I watched Toy Story 3, I was thinking “well that’s half the question answered.”

    the wolves from Pocahontas also have a deeper meaning, as the death of Kocoum begins the conflict between settlers and natives, while the Chief is the one to find the courage to end the conflict before it becomes an all out war, hence the smoke dissipating.

    Another thing: usually in movies (especially musicals and plays) characters wearing gloves are often hiding something. Who were the only characters in Frozen wearing gloves? Elsa and Hans.
