    Who knew! I don't get over that way very often, usually just use that section of the LA HILLS as a corridor for ventures East!---Hmm, rethink Santa Ana winds! They blow from East to West, shushing down the western slopes toward the ocean, which heats up the air.---I grew up in North Dakota, & am very familiar with outhouses! The best ones all were TWO-HOLERS!

    This I think was one of your most interesting videos. Imagine a community going from a oil town, to a ghost town, to a movie set, to a tourist attraction. I particularly enjoyed the way you interspersed the current views with the TV and movie shots that were made in the town. I like seeing the green acres house front. I remember the house from the TV show.

    My father worked for Chevron 21 years , 1950-1971, in their La Habra research dept as a senior geophyicist. It's the reason we moved to CA. Off to the west from Newhall is Santa Paula, the birthplace of Union Oil of California. A museum is there. I worked for UO 1968-1974 as a paleontologist in the exploration dept. They then moved from LA to Houston, but I didn't want to live there so quit. From 1957 to 1968, I lived near the old oil field town of Olinda (Orange County), and attended a two room school, built 1909, for 7th & 8th grades. Olinda was demolished about 1961for construction of a flood control dam. But there's an oil field museum there too.

    This was so very interesting. I am glad that the area is left for people to meander around, and get a sense of the history. However, with its past movie/TV pedigree, and the town's *own history, it's a shame it's just going to further deteriorate, unchecked.? I wish there was a happy medium... Hello Rhonda. 'Friends of MentryvilIe' is a volunteer group located in Santa Clarita Valley & surrounding areas. They & others do volunteer to help with the upkeep. It may be hard to tell but work has been done here since the 1994 Northridge earthquake destroyed what was left of the town. Donations keep them going.

    Great video as always

    • @jbenziggy
      @jbenziggy  2 года назад

      Every once in a while I learn things from my videos like when I make statements that are incorrect. I spoke off the cuff and I thought that the winds were actually came out from the ocean because that’s typically how it works in California. Glad you liked or video.

    • @speedspeed121
      @speedspeed121 2 года назад

      @@jbenziggy I grew up in Orange County and I study physics. I wouldn't expect other people to know about something like the wind patterns in a region of the US.
      Like a balloon, high pressure in the Great Basin pushes wind through the canyons and passes that divide the desert and the coastal basin (LA, OC, Riverside etc). As the wind squeezes through the mountain passes, it heats and gains kinetic energy.
      Yes. great videos.

    Beautiful area but sad to see the huge old tree is gone. Also Jeff I believe the Santa Ana winds are a down sloping wind which is a warm wind that dries out the atmosphere and begins at the top of mountains and blows down to lower elevations. An upslope wind is a cool or cold wind that brings rain and snow and begins from lower elevations and blows to higher elevations....at least that's what happens here in CO. Here in CO a down sloping warm wind is called a chinook wind. I loved the video. Highway to Heaven was such an enjoyable show too.

    When you walked into this place it just looked like many other old places till you put all the shows in and then it clicked how many i had seen. Really enjoyed this Jeff and Sarah and was surprised Sarah didn't have that wee dog on her lap :) Thankyou for sharing it

      Sarah doesn’t actually like little dogs because they tend to be obnoxious like this one. Lol

      I would have befriended the dog but it wasn't friendly just obnoxious. It ran after me like it was going to bite my ankles but I just ignored it and he gave up.

    Pretty neat Jeff, sure hope some one restores all the building & sights for future generations. Our past history helps to ensure a greater future. My son hooked up my phone so I can watch you & others on my big screen which brings your history tours to life for me. Thank you Jeff & Sarah. 👍🌵🤠🇺🇸

    This is super high on my bucket list as I have and currently work for oil companies in Southern California via a contractor. So thank you for reminding me. SUGGESTION: Please visit the Orcutt Ranch in the very western side of the San Fernando Valley. It is regarding Union 76, the first petroleum geologist and indirectly with naming the town of Orcutt by Santa Maria. I have been several times and it is a wonderful place. Wonderful video, thank you!

    Living just up the road a bit in Palmdale and driving down to LA or over to the coast. Never knew this place was there. Now I'll have to go see for myself. Thanks for the Video and tour.
