- Jeff & Sarah visit a number of historical spots around Mono Lake in eastern California, including a marker talking about John Fremont & Kit Carson's 1844 expedition; the grave of the unknown prospector; Mono Mills where lumber was milled for Bodie; hiking the Panum Crater; the upside-down house in Lee Vining; and the gravesite area of Kit Carson's daughter, Adeline Carson Stilts.

My husband and I both agree that your channel is the very best on RUclips. We just absolutely love the way you explain the details and facts and history and show the buildings and what went on there. I absolutely love it.
Love your videos always take care my friends
Oh how I miss the Eastern Sierra! My favorite place to go anytime! Spent so many wonderful days exploring the 395 corridor! Thank you so much Jeff & Sarah for recording these “bits” of home!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Drinking With Power Tools is a Great Combo...Awsum Views Out There
Love that 395 👍🏻🤠🇺🇸
Love your comment! Made me and Sarah laugh! Thanks for the chuckle!
@@jbenziggy LMAO... 👍🏻
I appreciate all the historical photos and stories behind them. Excellent! Thank you
Our pleasure! Thank you!
What makes your history videos wonderful are your 'before and after' photos of the places you visit. The only down side is that I want more and more content, but realize that at some point, the video must end. This is another area I had only driven past and never stopped. Thank you Jeff and Sarah for not only stopping, but providing the details. I can't wait for your next video!! ....Russell D.
Thank you for putting my thoughts into words
That prospector was buried long before the highway was built. And that route is just the easiest way to get through with wagons. It was used by everyone traveling back then. Just imagine animal trails in the mountains. There were wagon trails, and that was one. And it was also the easiest way to add the interstate. In the 70s, I remember there was just a pile of rocks and a pair of cowboy boots just poking out of the rocks. There was no fence or head stone. Nothing saying it was a prospector. But there were local "legends" and local stories that a prospector was buried there. I was born in Bishop. My grandpa told me it was a prospector. And if you talked to others in Lee Vining, they'd say the same, an old prospector was buried there. All stories going way back before things were created for bringing tourists or roadside attractions. This was not created as a attraction. I highly suggest reading the historic marker at the rest area in between Bishop and Lee Vining. Could be a adventure for you both to go and fine the vain of gold it talks about. My grandpa said he found it but left to go get help. And could never find it again. He looked for years and always talked about the gold he found and lost. There's so much great history everywhere. I love it!!! Love your videos. Keep them coming.
I've driven that route so many times but never stopped... Boy have I missed lots in my years. Thank You for sharing Jeff and Sarah
I absolutely love History Hunters 💪
I love you guys, very interesting
You guys have to be in good shape and adventuring and Iove it
Love the upside down house.

Simply God's country and my old stomping grounds while at LADWP. Thanks for sharing these adventures. Stay safe.
So many beautiful places to explore just in California alone. I’m glad you showed that upside down house right side up. Ha..Thanks for taking us along with you & Sarah. I remember my Aunt Isabel having a couple of those black rocks that look like glass on the inside around the garden at her house when I was a young child. Thanks for the memories❣️🙏🏻
Excellent video. A lot of effort and hard work you put in them. Thanks for sharing pieces of history with us.
Great history seeing all places many of us have never been or even knew about. Sarah is a good explorer. She can find anything!
Sarah loves exploring new places!
Love all this history! My grandfather and his brothers were loggers up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I love the history lesson I get when I watch you guys!
Fantastic, Brenda! Thank you!
Back in early 80's early 90's we always drove from San Fernando valley to Bridgeport opening day fishing through 395 hwy what an Amazing drive an scenic views. Haven't be through there since then thanks for history hunters 👍im thinking it's that time again to do so😃 I appreciate the video guy's🏕
I'm not sure I can adequately say how much I appreciate your video's, I learn so much watching them.
Thanks very much Scott! We appreciate you watching and commenting that you’re appreciative!
Such an enjoyable video. You go where nobody else goes.Mountains , valleys, lakes, forest's, deserts all kinds of places. I sit on my couch and watch your videos, definitely a privilege for me as a history lover , and that too when I'm from India.I want to thank Jeff and Sarah from my heart for showing me the best of places.God bless you all.Punecity. Jai Maharashtra.
Thanks very much! We appreciate you!
One of the most beautiful drives you can have on any highway is the drive on 395. The east side of the Sierra Nevada's is epic! That crumbly rock Sarah found, i believe was pumice. Some pumice you find actually will float in water. Great video, thank you for sharing.
Great show, again. Thank you to you & Sarah!
I love her dry humor. Great job people.
Thanks Tony! We are happy to hear such nice compliments!
The "grave" at the 395/120 intersection started as a joke in the early 70's. It started as a mound of dirt and two boots sticking out. The boots were replaced several times then the highway was widen and the ECV set up the present "grave" as we see today.
I don't know about it being a joke. I was born in Bishop and my grandpa told me stories about the old prospector buried there. And when we hung out with friends in Lee Vining their grandparents said the same thing. My grandpa was born in 1913 so he knew a lot of the history in the area
Thanks for another great one! So interesting. Beautiful picture of Sarah @4:16 Thank you for your effort!
I love your little documentaries you do a very good job narrating them and the scenery is always spectacular. Keep up the good work. I envy you .
Jeff, Tom Clayton from Ceres here, looking back at some of your older videos, spent a few days in Half moon bay, took a little trip down the coast on Hwy 1. Was pleasantly surprised to be in the little town of Pescadero, thought about you and Sarah on your adventures, so started looking for the cemetery, JACKPOT! what a find I think I could have spent the day there! Lots of graves from people born in early 1830's on! Wow! So thanks Jeff for a new adventure! Tom in Ceres
Sarah's a saint. I can tell she's patient and tolerant.
Thanks very much! We love to hear that! Happy Thanksgiving!
Awesome show Jeff & Sarah, thanks for the high altitude breathing lesson, it's not easy if you're not used to it!
Jeff, that is not why you pulled over! Sarah, you are to cute! My biggest fear in life, is to die alone so, single grave markers in the middle of nowhere just about brings me to tears! Another fun one Jeff, thank-you! Meet ya around the campfire next week!
Thank you so much Jeff and Sarah. This has been a very interesting journey and I want to thank both of you for sharing your travels and experiences with us.
That is a beautiful area that I have to visit. Years ago, some friends of ours, went to Mono Lake, took many pictures and shared them with us. Over the years, my memory has faded some and I'd forgotten the beauty of that area. You two have rekindled my interest in the Mono Lake area. I'm going to promise myself to visit Mono Lake very soon.
Thanks again, from Ceres.
Stan
Enjoy your videos about history of your country thanks for the videos
Great stuff, I love that area. There is huge amounts of Brine Shrimp in the lake, there is/was a processing plant for the shrimp for tropical fish there. I think Huel Howser did an episode on the islands on the lake.
My favorite of your videos so far. Thank you!
Thanks guys for the informative video. My family visited Bodie in the 60s the rock crusher was interesting the curtains hung outside the many broken windows we accidentally picked up a square nail in our Volkswagen Beetle and had to fix a flat in the Infamous Donner Pass on our way home. Thanks again y’all!
Thanks for the cool videos!!!
Another fantastic video. Love it! Such beautiful areas.
Haha!! To get some jerk off our tail!! Love the desert shots and the little cave area. We love checking out all that stuff as well!
A Beautiful lake surrounded by rugged amazing landscape!! Great video 🤩🤩

Beautiful scenery you guys do so much thanks for this
Thanks for watching!!! Mono County is a neat place to visit!
I needed a smile your video gave that. Loved Sarah's comment at start :) the video was amazing so much history packed in Thankyou both for sharing LOVED it
Jeff, I love these kind of videos... the history, the locations, the reminders of the past, the ambiguity of some *supposed, factual info... Thanks to you and Sarah, for bringing these historical events to our attention, Jeff.👍👏🤠
still think you guys deserve to be on the history channel or local public broadcasting 👍👍👊👊
I'd forgotten, but in 1977, my Geology class from Cal State Sacto had a field trip to Mono Lake, and we stopped at Panum Crater. I remember picking up a giant piece of pumice! Left there for a famous landslide along 395. Thanks for the memories. And yes, 7,000 feet elevation will take your breath away if you're not used to it. I think Fremont had something to do with building a westward railroad (competition for the Union Pacific), later to be called the "Katy Line".
Enjoyed this episode! Thank you guys.
Thank you very much for watching. We appreciate it.
You do such an awesome job with your story telling and researching of the subject matter
Very interesting, the mill site reminds me of the Simpson plant my father used to run in Klamath CA. 😄 It was both new and old stuff there from yrs of logging Thanks Jeff and Sarah....🤗👍🦃
Been there many times! Lot of camping and fishing in that area! That grave wasn’t that fancy in the 90’s just some rocks and and a pair of boots sticking out of the dirt!! My children caught their first fish out of Lee Vining Creek! Love that area!

Beautiful lesson in Cali. History. Thank you Sarah and Jeff. Happy Thanksgiving.
God bless, Jeff & Sarah, and thanks for all you do!
What an amazing Channel! We are kindred spirits. I lived in Tracy CA for ~20 years and wanted to do just what you're doing but the technology wasnt there yet in the 1990's. I was a fan of Huell Howsers methods and stories and was sad to see him leave us. You have definitely taken up the gauntlet. I dug deep into the Gold Rush history of Hiway 49 and spent countless days and hours along the way in Angels Camp, Sonora, Columbia, etc. When I saw your video on Little House on the Prairie episode in the Dardenelles, I jumped out of my chair as I have photographed there so often. Ironically, I am now living near one if the Ingall's homesteads here in South Dakota! (DeSmet, SD). Please keep up the great work. Binge Watching today!
Hi Steve! So happy you found our channel! We do focus on the history of California but eventually want to start branching out when we can. You will be interested to know that in 1997 I took the family to DeSmet to see the little school house on our trek through South Dakota. I am very pleased to hear you very much enjoy our channel! Thanks so much for reaching out!
HEY, JEFF & SARAH How are you guys doing well I hope!!. And us usual I have Enjoyed the Traveling along with you on

Another great one Happy Thanksgiving guys
Jeff I gotta say. I love the moments I notice you filming and admiring Sarah. It makes me happy to know you guys get to enjoy days like this together. Thank you for another awesome video
I remember the upside down house from one of Huell Howser’s episodes. The first time I saw a picture of Mono Lake was from the Pink Floyd record. “Wish You Were Here” album from the 70’s
steve94044 only just occurred to me its the pink floyd cover, damn I've been there and never thought twice! 😄👏🏻🎸
If people would just take a minute and think about how things was done for us now days all the heartache it took they will be blowing away, but we got Jeff and Sarah that work hard to show us and guide us through it many thanks to you two, I love your work..

What another enjoyable outing with Sarah and Jeff! Thank you for trekking up that hill so I could enjoy the view without getting winded!
Ha ha! You’re welcome!
A great place to use as a base camp and hike around in the Sierras. The desert and the alpine are a great scenery combo. Another fun video!
living on the "395" , we do love exploring north to south a very beautiful and historic route.. thank guys! ...happy trails always....
Well done as always 😉. As many times I've been on 395 there. I didn't know about what you both showed. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Maybe you can travel through again and see it with new eyes!
Glad to see you and updates, watching from Ohio Smitty out 😉
I just got back yesterday from a trip on 395. Saw the Upside-down house on Saturday. Also, went to Bodie, it was really cold and there was snow. Met a guy who was scouting for an independent movie. It was neat to see the scouting process.
It snowed last Wednesday while we were in Mammoth Lakes. We tried to get to the Inyo crater but there was too much snow, and the melting snow left a deep puddle, our car couldn't drive thru it.
I saw a couple markers along 395 but daylight is short this time of year so we didn't stop.
You do a great job researching all of the history. I love the area because of it and the beauty.
Cool Video, I'm going to share this video with my Aunt. Her family owned a Motel in Mammoth Lake during the 60's. John Wayne stayed their with his family. I just saw the pictures.
Thanks very much Christian! You have to make Mammoth Lakes a destination in 2021. It’s gorgeous!
Another great adventure, love how you tie all things and people together.
We have a old Ford truck 1935 looks just like the one you show
Thanks Jeff & Sarah
Central California watching
Nice video. I have camped in the area and done a bit of exploring and prospecting as well. A great many Westerns were made all through the area. There is a Western movie museum located near Lone Pine. Plenty to see along the 395 and I have not even scratched the surface. Regardless have fun and enjoy.
Hi Jeff & Sarah! Just finished watching the new video. Another fun trip into History. I enjoyed it very much. Bye for now. Have a good day!
