Best description I've seen in ages. Also to my fellow players, it's really hard so do not get too frustrated if you fail a lot. I do, and I have thousands of hours in the game and can't still fly and land properly. Good luck, and have a nice summer (or winter if you're on the southern hemisphere.)
I just want to say that I am here before 100k! Thank you so much for the content Mike. Ive been flying rockets exclusively because space planes are beyond my understanding. But you are helping a lot! Scot Manley is the grand daddy of tutorials but his content are out dated now, and you are wonderfully filling in the gap. Matt Lowe is great too but his video tends to cater to advanced players and not too beginner friendly with too fast explanation. These tutorials are 1. very clear 2. just perfectly phased 2.a. THANK YOU for NOT wasting too much time and just keeping it focused on what we need to know, even your patreon announcement is "chef's kiss" 3. makes things not so scary anymore 4. gives me the feeling that i can actually do this in game You would make a wonderful teacher! Note: Apologies if i cant make a patreon yet as I dont have a stable job yet. I will send $ your way as soon as I am capable. Until then i will watch and like your videos.
Nice one! One addition to the S-Turn, the real shuttle didnt do it because heat control, they did it so they wont bounce back into orbit when hitting the atmosphere causing the wings to generate lift wich would caused the ship to actually climb up again. With turning to right an left the upward lift was turned into a sideward lift until they were slow and low enough so gravity was stronger the the generated lift. Increasing the angle of attack would`ve solved that Problem but than overheating would be a Problem, so change the pitch was just no option. There is a intresting video of that from an NASA Pilot explaining the whole reentry process really nice. (German title but english audio and texts) ruclips.net/video/Jb4prVsXkZU/видео.html
Does anyone know why its better to land on the runway than to ditch in the water? I've found out that hitting the water allows me to be going faster and makes the craft easier to land, but I haven't seen anyone do it.
I never tryed to Land in the ksc runway anyway I tryed to land in the ocean smoothly and bring it with a boat back the boat isn't a mod it is out of empty tanks and atmosferic engine which you are using for planes and with hydraulics and these hydraulic Angeles and a docking port I bring the reusable trajectory back to ksc 😂😂
Very good mod but during the reentry there's a chance of my plane goes into a spiral instead of going straight making it very hard to turn back without using rcs and boosters
Spinning is actually not unrealistic. Look what Virgin Galactic Space Ship One and Space Ship Two do. It really does work in reality. The main issue in reality is whether or not the ship and crew can handle the stresses of the spinning.
Someone could host a rave-party under that landed plane :D But seriously, the addition of light seems very useful to visually gauge the approaching runway, even in broad daylight.
I'm always impressed at how good you are at this game. You can land a shuttle from orbit perfectly, whereas landing a common plane anywhere on Kerbin is next to impossible for me. Really good stuff.
Thanks Mike! I've been using Trajectories for a while for spaceplanes and I never knew about the red dot being a correction attitude. Loving these tutorials!
How to set up the mod so that it calculates the trajectory of only the last stage. Because when I adjust the trajectory with a mod, there remains a capsule and one more stage. And when I move to the next step, the trajectory changes. Is there a way or another mod to aim only for a certain stage.
@@MikeAben If you don't know, there probably isn't such a way. I don't understand why, I think it's not very difficult to add such a feature. Doesn't anyone need it? Because of this, when calculating the capsule, the mod becomes useless.

I added an escape pod to my shuttle if I lose control I can abort and float down on para shoots it can even reenter on it's own.

You do get 100% of the value of the craft back for landing on the runway, but mostly we do it cause it's fun.

Best tutorials out their just the right pace
I waited and finally thanks now i landed my first shuttel on a runway.
Congrats.
Any landing you can walk away from right!
you really sound like sal khan and you also have the same teaching level as him.
i know right!!

You may need to move your center of lift further behind the center of mass.
Omg omg thank youuuu

You rock dude! Been watching a lot of your older videos the past few days, glad to see a new one!
Mike somehow always manages to know exactly what I want to know, when i want to know it, it's almost scary
landed first try

There's no way, that I know of, to deal with that.
