They are enforcing the 7kg carryon limit because passengers are supposed to lift the bags up and stow it themselves. Some people arrive in the cabin with 15kg luggage or more and expect the crew to lift them up for them. Now imagine what this will do to the backs of crew lifting multiple bags every flight × 20 flights a month
@1968harsh wrong. BA allow 2 x 23Kg onboard - at least for short-haul. I travel with them a couple of times a month and choose to fly with them rather than other carriers because of this.
Etihad has a new seating policy... now you can check in online 30 hours before and you will be assigned a seat, but what they're not saying is that you can pick/change your seat for free 4 hours before!
Every airline that has premium class seats will treat passengers in more expensive class cabins better that it treats passengers in economy class cabins.
@@aaronadam4747I am Indian and have travelled in Etihad to India two times. I have not experienced any bad services in my memory. But the last time I flew was in like 2018, so idk what's the situation now. But in the end of day tho, if you fly with upgraded classes like premium economy, first, residence etc, then they would probably respect you regardless.
That option to book a second seat next to you is great, unless you're me and you book it for an overbooked flight and they sit a mother with a small child next to you anyway. The child was actually super quiet and I didn't notice her at all, but Etihad customer service absolutely REFUSED to pay back the extra money I spent on the second seat until I started getting extremely harsh with them. So be careful, is all I'm saying.
That's a shame you had a problem with this option. We did the dynamic seat block and it was great. We did get an email straight away saying it was successful so don't know if that makes a difference.
I had a good memory flying Etihad KTM-AUH-ORD back in 2017,only once, though they stopped flying that route after pandemic but will definitely try Etihad again in future.
that abu dhabi terminal was absolutely hell. When I flew business class from dublin to AD to Qatar to Thailand to Japan...AD felt like Laguardia in the 90s
How long did you have to get to second flight. I’m doing this in April but only 1 and half hour between London flight and Phuket. Is that enough time x
The lav situation sounds good. The airport looks great. Glad the seats are comfy. I think their economy class has ups and glaring downs. Always enjoy your viewpoints. Sounds like the crew was accommodating. Makes you think this would be okay. Thanks for an entertaining review.
Great video, I use Nord VPN - but if I’m on a hotel wifi the only way to make safari work is to turn off the VPN, if it’s on I can’t make anything work. What is the point of paying for a secure service if you can NEVER take advantage of it when you actually need it? Very frustrating.
Dan, you should be flying AUH/DOH/DXB to SYD (Australia) during peak travel periods. Those 14+ hours in packed economy will give you a real sense of the experience of each airline 😁
I did Etihad 14+ hours in packed economy going the other direction, AUD-ORD. That was 2016 from the old, overcrowded terminal. It wasn't terrible, but no better than a US domestic carrier. I had just flown Qatar months earlier, which was far better at the time.
Hard critique but much needed for Etihad considering they are competing with the other big luxurious middle eastern airliners like EK and QR. Its the same reason why we evaluate mercedes F1 team against Red Bull when they really are just a mid field team since 2022. ;)
Etihad is ONLY going down and I was very surprised with this move. Flying a lot with Star Alliance and Emirates recently, and trying to web check-in for Etihad literally "right now" and you can't select seats for free. They auto select for you and you can't pick on your own. On a long haul flight, this is ABSOLUTE BS. You can switch seats 4 hours before departure of each flight. So in a multiple segment flight, this is an auto punishment.
Emirates IFE also offers connecting your Bluetooth devices to the screen. I flew them in 2021 and I was pleasantly surprised by that feature. They woeked on the newer A380 and the semi new Triple Sevens
We are travelling with Etihad from the uk to Tokyo to board a cruise, and we have just learned about the luggage allowance 23kg + 7kg hand luggage with no extra handbags at all, if your in economy. We are really disappointed and we will be panicking with our weights unless of course we purchase extra luggage allowance and a huge cost. Very disappointing.😢
Okay, so normally I don't comment on any of your videos Dan as I find them all super informative and helpful, but I felt compelled to comment on my recent Etihad experience with my family of 5. We flew from Melbourne Australia to Copenhagen Denmark and then flew back from Paris last week. We've flown all 3 middle eastern airlines as we generally fly to Europe as a family every year and I have to say - our experience was really disappointing. Like you, I'm a Vegan and the food was just awful. We were actually served the exact same meal twice on the 13 hour MEL - AUH leg - a dreary pasta with tomato sauce. We flew the 787 on the way out and a very old and tired 777 on the way back. No screens worked. The toilets were 2010. Food - awful again. No airvents for a 13 hour flight - not okay. My son's tray table was broken. And then the Pearl Lounge in Abu Dhabi - where do I even start? No Vegan food whatsoever - not even any fruit! We had to ask several servers for water! And $AUD45 for a shower - really? The very little food offerings in the new terminal's Food Court are not just expensive - they are outrageous. $AUD20 for Kombucha! $AUD20 for a single sushi roll! And we paid $AUD500 for seat selection on the MEL-AUH leg to sit up the back with the last 3 row and 2 row - they gave those seats to someone else and we were never refunded nor given any explanation - only that the plane was full. For me personally, it's still Qatar Airways all the way for these long hauls. Etihad in my opinion has a very long way to go to compete with food, in-cabin comfort and airport and lounge experience. They may well be competing with Wizz Air on many routes - but Emirates and Qatar are their main competitors out of Australia and they need to lift their game significantly to get even close. Shorter hops may well be okay - but I certainly would not be recommending them for long haul flights out of Australia.
We`re flying with Etihad and already they`ve been a nightmare keep making changes to the flights and changing our seat selection with no obvious reason why. Won`t ever use them again after this time.
Great review Dan, surprisingly enough I had quite the opposite experience with Etihad. Flew from Chennai to Bahrain and back. I did not enjoy the 787, the legroom was less than that on the A320 I felt. I enjoyed the one hour I spent on the A320 more than the 4 hours I spent on the 787.
I would love a new review on Asiana Airlines I flew my first long-haul flight with them from London to South Korea to Japan in economy. I wasn't expecting much but the food was good, we had a choice of Korean or Western food (we even got a meal on the 2 hour flight to Tokyo) They would also serve hot tea frequently on the flight. The flight attendants were so nice and professional. The only thing I didn't like is we had to keep the windows shut so kinda a waste of a window seat, idk if this is normal on long haul flights but oh well.
I’ve never had a good experience with Etihad. I remember going to India and returning to Sydney on Etihad and they really don’t treat their passengers well on the flights to India. I remember the flight attendants being rude to passengers and it was uncomfortable to watch.
No. Etihad's website is a nightmare if you are trying to get through from your guest account. Seat sales are a huge con... you'll end up paying appreciable amounts to guarantee a decent seat as an Etihad Guest and then end up next to a non-Guest who didn't pay. Cabin crew performance is highly variable and a lot of their safety practice is appalling.
