I always think of Paul when I think of Dave Grohl. I don't know if another artist who writes & played every instrument on the 23 minute song "Play* and the Album "Pocket Watch". The only other artist I can think of who can do that is Prince, although I have no doubt there's others, it's still impressive as hell, music in their veins!!
If there is one song that embodies the genius of Paul McCartney, it is this one. Why? Everything we hear here comes from the brain, hands (and feet) of a single musician. In 1970, there were not many musicians who could do that.
It’s so good, and I like the little ending they put on the live versions. Jimmy McCulloch was a great guitarist for Wings, underrated cuz he didn’t live very long unfortunately
Hey Saeed, So grateful that you played my request. I loved your reaction. You are really GETTING why those of us who were "there" and grew up with them loved them. Great that you can be in that era vicariously. That is the beauty and timelessness of music. Peace.
A man who looks at his family and realizes the value of love to a powerful woman who supports him no matter what. Their relationship was treasured by the world up until her death. We fans were all broken. They were a genuine team. 💕🌹💕
Paul is quite frankly the best song writer! He's written hundreds of songs and there's only a couple that I don't like! Most of them are great songs! They're all different. Nothing sounds the same. They have the best melodies!
My husband and I got to see Paul and Linda in Wings at a famous place in San Francisco called The Cow Palace. Wonderful concert and light show in late 1970s. There was a great "Drive in theater next door and next to that a beautiful bowling alley. Great memories, and lucky to see Paul. Though he played a lot up in a mountain town by me called Truckee, he would just show up at a restaurant and just play for a bit.
Such a great song! Love all of Paul's work with the Beatles & solo with Wings. I had a lot of his records. He has so many great songs such as "Band On The Run", "Jet", "Live & Let Die", "Listen To What The Man Said", "Silly Love Songs", "Let 'Em In", "My Love", "Helen Wheels", "Let Me Roll It", "Junior's Farm", "Venus & Mars/Rock Show", "Mull Of Kintyre", "With A Little Luck" etc.
I adore the Cherry Album-- thank God for Linda's love which sustained him every single day of their lives together. You'll never find a more beautiful love story.
You know, you’ve made me think about something here. And that is, it almost seems like Paul is a member of the family at this point. Like a distant uncle or something. And just like my real distant uncles, I appreciate that they’re here. They’ve got a few more good years left yet. And I sure will be sad when they have to leave us.
Me and a friend were going back and forth about what was the first power ballad. I landed on "Maybe I'm Amazed". We based our discussion on the definition of a power ballad being a slow song that starts acousticly (guitar or piano) and has a ripping hard rock guitar solo.
One of my favorites by solo Paul. Impassioned singing and virtuosic playing (of all the instruments!), along with heartfelt songwriting, made this track the most Beatle-worthy song on Paul's first solo album.
One of the most beautiful love songs of our time! I believe , though I am not certain, that Paul played all of the instruments on tracks. Mybe I am amazed!
You’re never too late to discover this! That’s the beauty of music. It gets passed down through generations. My teen just recorded himself performing this song doing all vocals and instruments 😍The Beatles will continue to inspire
He and his friends are tackling’Tom Sawyer’ by Rush for a school coffeehouse performance . His teacher told them it was impossible-they’re up for the challenge 😁
beautiful reaction. i was 16 when this came out. you're right, we really lived this music, if you can capture even a small percentage of what we did consider yourself lucky. i love this discovery by so many people now, really makes all of us happy.
You forgot to pause! 🙂That's a testament to the song's greatness and timelessness; so no need to pause. Love the line "you right me when I'm wrong". This song continues the Beatles' and Paul’s amazing love-themed lyrics.
This first solo album from Paul was one of the first albums I owned as a young teen. It has a special place in my heart. I spent many hours alone in my room listening to and looking at the pictures on the album cover. I hope you do the whole album at some point. There are some beautiful songs on it.
Okay…you are getting into the history of the Beatles, which if you are a fan, you MUST, MUST DO NOW. The BEST way to do that is to watch the BEATLES ANTHOLOGY DVD series. This was created by The Beatles, THEMSELVES. They put this series together because so many people were writing Beatles history and getting it wrong. They felt they needed to do it to set the record straight. It is narrated by all 4 members and they spent years collecting video footage from everywhere they e er toured, every interview, every show they were on. It goes back to how each of them grew up, how they met as teenagers, how they learned to play, their influences growing up, their first gigs…. And how they started to gain an audience and how their sound just took off like a rocket ship and thrust them into amazing fame very fast! Every album was better than the last and they literally changed music and changed the entire culture at the time, from music to art to fashion. It’s an amazing story. I am a music teacher. I expose my students to all kinds of music, but at a certain age, they learn all about Beatles history. And I show them this series. There are 5 DVD’s in the set. Each is divided into 2 episodes, each episode is 90 minutes long. It originally came out in a 10 VHS tape set. It may be hard to stream. I have never seen it on any streaming platform. You probably have to buy it. However, it used to cost like $150-200. I believe Amazon had the set for $50 now. And you can probably buy a set right on the Beatles website, Beatles.com. It’s worth the investment. After you see this series, there are other great documentaries on Amazon Prime and Disney Plus: Eight Days a Week ‘64 How the Beatles Changed the World
Highly agree that he needs to see this doc! I kinda hope he watches A Hard Days Night and does a few more album reactions on Patreon first to get a sense of more of the music and timeline first though. I love that you have your students watch it, fantastic! ❤
On his 3 "McCartney" albums (1 2 and 3) He plays all the instruments, sings, records it himself, and the only help he has is occasional back up singing from his wife Linda.
"Mull of Kintyre" is another song about his life with Linda and raising their kids in rural Scotland. That's where most of the photos in this video came from. Definitely worth a listen
He lost his mother, Mary as a young teen so I think he saw in Linda a great mother and wife figure that he had been missing for years and yearning for. In Let it Be, he sings about his mom. “ Mother, Mary comes to me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
He and Linda were so perfect together! And their gorgeous family! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 gorgeous! Wings was HUGE! ❤❤ thank you Saeed 🇨🇦 Mull of Kintyre should be next, or Venus and Mars! ❤
There’s a beautiful video of Paul McCartney hearing this song for the first time after his wife died, when it was used in a fashion walk show. It’s really touching. If I can find the link, I’ll add it.
Great reaction, Saeed. 😊 I loved hearing how enamored you have become with this group. As a guy who was 12 when they burst on the U.S, scene, I can certainly relate. And, yes, I do feel incredibly grateful that these guys provided the soundtrack for my adolescence and early adulthood; they were cultural way-showers for so many of us. That's great that you watched the entire "Get Back" documentary. Yep, you're hooked. 🎶✌️

in the videoou see wife Linda and PAul and Linda's daughter from a previous marraiage, Heather, whom Paul officially adopted. You may have seen Heather in the Get Back doumentary.
Truly a solo album - apart from some backing vocals by his wife Linda, Paul did all the rest - vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, etc. He later mentioned the album could be regarded as the first indie album.

Almost every time someone does a reaction to a live recording, I think to myself, they're missing the sound of the studio. This song is one of the few exceptions. The live version is just a little bit slower and is missing nothing from the studio. It has a couple of small things that I feel are missing in this studio recording. Still a great song. I like this guy's songs, but I am one of those people who believe he is not the real Paul, who I believe died in 1966. But, again, good songs, good singer, just kind of don't buy that it's Paul.

Paul plays every instrument on this version but I think the "Wings Over America" version is really THE BEST!!
I agree.
The "Wings Over America" version needs to be reacted to now that you did the solo version.
It’s so good, and I like the little ending they put on the live versions. Jimmy McCulloch was a great guitarist for Wings, underrated cuz he didn’t live very long unfortunately
I respectfully disagree. The Wings version was just awful compared to this 1970 version, to my ear.
A touching testament to the love and support of a good woman.

I had forgotten just how good this song was👌🎼
it was a hard time for Macca.....he recorded this album , alone , he was very depressed because it was the end of the Beatles
Paul played every instrument on every song on this album. He was (is) the most versatile of the Beatles.
Both live and studio are incredible. You 100% need to see this live.
