    In this video I review an incredibly impressive 500 series compressor. Heritage Audio Grandchild 670 is Fairchild compressor clone that costs only £1600 and captures every essence of what a Fairchild sounds and feels like. I was fully expecting this module to be a huge let down but from the second I heard I was instantly impressed. I feel this is very audible in the audio examples in this video.

    A tool is a tool. I love heritage audio and their builds compared to other companies I won’t name

    Those switches are pickup selectors from a Telecaster! That looks perfect!

      @1loveMusic2003 it's a very similar look to the Shadow Hills Dual Vandergraph. The switch are nice and weighty.

    Cool. I find it to sound rather aggressive. Id love to hear a comparison with a real one. You are in a very unique position to do that 😊

      @Rhuggins that video is coming. I'm using quite aggressive settings to show its capabilities. The audio examples on the website are a little more subtle and real world settings used.

    I bought grandchild today, compared it with "fairchild" plugins and was surprised at how big the difference is. I thought some plugins should perform a lot better. Now i see why there is so much hype about hardware fairchilds).

    Wow, lots of mojo 🤟🏼
    I’m going to listen in my studio on the mains tonight before I shut down the system.

      @Chaos-Dynamics it's impressive how much mojo they got into 500 series. In the description there's a link to high quality audio files you can download and reference in your own studio direct from your DAW.

    This sounds like a beast. Thanks for an awesome review Paul. Is there a noise floor issue considering its a 500 series unit?

    I'm in the same boat as you - wasn't expecting much (Herchild's too bright compared to a Fairchild), but I'm impressed with this one! The only con I see is the lack of an output trim.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  17 дней назад +2

      @aleksamrkela831 Yeah, this is the huge benefit we have with owning the unfairchild with the assessory box. It gives the unfairchild an output gain, which is really useful. It is in keeping with the original fairchild design.

      @@braxal6983 I have stopped using 500 series. I had to borrow a 500 series rack off SX Pro. But I am considering adding a rack for mixing purposes.

    Paul, I have an Elysia Alpha compressor (hardware), a Manley Variable MU limiter compressor (hardware), and a RND Portico II Master Bus Processor (hardware). How important is it to purchase an Unfairchild? In your experience, is my current equipment already giving me what the Unfairchild brings to the table? Does the Unfairchild do something my current equipment cannot do? If the Unfairchild does something my equipment can't do, would a better option be to buy the McDSP APB and use the C673-A (or their other compressors) instead of an Unfairchild? Thanks. Mark Cole

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  4 дня назад

      @markcole4001 the unfairchild will get a better sound than the mcdsp that's for sure. The mcdsp is awesome. I have a little insider info for you regarding mcdsp. Next week is a huge sale around 33% off a mcdsp apb 16. I've just bought 2 get 1 free. That deal will be live on SX Pro next week.
      Due to your current chain, the unfairchild won't bring as much to you as it would to something else. It'll still bring something great to the chain. I have an alpha, shadow hills and unfairchild in the same chain. All have their own sound and can be used together.
      One thing the unfairchild does bring you is the ability to say you have an unfairchild. We get lots of clients coming to us because they want their song run through the unfairchild.

    under what circumstances would you put this in the same rack as a dual vandergraph? i ask because i already have the latter and love it.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  17 дней назад

      @jeffbaumet794 for mixing purposes could have the vandergraph on vocals and the Grandchild on drums. For mastering purposes it would be another flavour of compression. I used to own the dual vandergraph and it felt equally as good but very different.

  • @MrGastrax

    Judging by the action of the compressor it seems you didn't use any of the side chain HPF options... or if so, which one?

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  17 дней назад

      @MrGastrax side chain filter is off in these examples. I find it not very practical to have it on the inside of the module. But understand there's limited room on the front panel.
