These guys owe you MONEY sir… The sound is undeniable here. The song is really cool and your instincts of how frequent and at which point to bypass is pitch perfect. Altogether a highly enjoyable and repeat watches or review/performance. Hats off!
Amazing. I really like what the compressor did for the tones of this song. It really handled the dynamics of the song structure. I really noticed the movement when the E. Guitar and piano come in on the right channel along with the falsetto-esq vocals. Great song by the way. Reminds me of Jeff Buckley with a bit of Coldplay parachutes. I love the barking at the end as I’ve had this happen to me so many times.
Great video man! I enjoy my 670 all the time it adds that tube weight. Idk why people would even try to argue the fact of it not sounding like a Fairchild…really!! I mean it definitely falls into the category of a Fairchild sibling so I believe Grandchild was a proper name for this 500 series comp anyways your video was great and definitely showed some ppl out there what this lil beast can do! Thanks
Wow sounds great. I’m guessing they are using tubes for the input and amplification and doing something solid state for the compression, because this has a lot less tubes than a Fairchild.
Great unit, I just got it in as well. It seems we both have the same problem that when the unit is at starting position, the vu meter is not exactly at 0. Just also reached out to Heritage, hopefully they’ll have a solution to fix yourself instead of sending back for calibration. 😜 Maybe that little hole is for cal?
❤Excellent review, thanks. A good and even decent compressor will do wonders for the sound of a track, but like most things in music, it’s the last extra 5% that really makes the difference. This compressor adds a certain dimensionality to the sound that is world class.
Great review. I think about getting one. Did you have any issues with heat? I mean, there's tubes and so many other electronic parts in it on so little space.
Perfect demo video. Traditional familiar source sounds - bread and butter instruments, well recorded, good song. From individual tracks to cumulative effect. Beautifully filmed.
It might be cool to include a plugin doctor analysis of the outboard as I'm often curious to see how I feel, perceive some unites vs what it does in graphs.
The only time I’ll do things like that is if I think there’s a problem and I’m trying to figure out what’s going on. I’m happy to send you some files if you’re curious and want to do it yourself! That’s just not my thing.
Ya, it just doesn’t do that much for acoustic instruments and vocals (the side chain does make a difference on pianos, but the part I was playing didn’t have any low end in it on this song). I had to wait and use it on drums and mix bus.
It really depends on the compressor. In my API compressor, I’ve always got the side chain engaged. To me, that’s a big part of that compressors signature sound.
I double checked the manual just now and didn't see anything. There's definitely some sort of adjustable screw recessed in there. My guess is that it's the calibration for the meter, you'll have to ask Heritage.
I just wish they hadn't called it a "670" - I feel like the branding invites criticism that isn't really productive or appropriate. It sounds great, and seems like a fantastic "Fairchild-inspired" compressor for the format, at a compelling price. Packing what they have into a 2-slot module is impressive in its own right.

It sounds like a great Vari-Mu tube compressor. A bit more of a subtle color and character, but clearly it adds up nicely over a whole song.
I was very skeptical of this unit until I saw your review. Great job showing what it is really capable of thank you! Love your studio and gear!

Seriously didn't expect it to sound this good!
Really great review, but also great song. That chorus took it to the next level. ❤

Heritage Audio just got back to me, for the ones who want to know: VU meter is calibratable on the little hole below the input gain 👌🏽
Is the 670 going onto the buss compression on the API So so that another way to punch. It that right.
Wow... actually a lot better than i though. Thank you for the great review!

They could run a cord from that 500 unit and outboard the other 85 lbs. of transformers. I like it! Thanks for the review!
😂
The quick attack sounds incredible

@@MillSounds I think it's revealing :D
Can’t wait to check this vid out!!
It was great, minus the part where now I don’t feel like life will be worth it if I don’t get one.
great review ! and very nice track too !!! sounds cool, possible to find it on platforms ? thanks for your nice work !!!

I think a switch to filter the side-chain would have been great when I hear how it handle the proximity effect on the vocal exemple.
I wasn't watching long enough haha

@@MillSounds I have a scf on the brute but never use it and I only use a scf on the master when I'm mixing maybe on some parallel drums but not even

It looks like there is a hole under the input gain knob for calibrating something. Does anyone know what this is for?

Amazing 😮
Hey man, how did you record the coustic guitar? Sounds insane😢
song name in ?
Song is called "COVID Waltz", it's all in the video description if you want a link.
Too early to read what other people think about it ;( Anyway, I think it sounds fantastic.
Not bad for a 500 series wow
Ya, it’s a solid compressor (regardless of the Fairchild connection).

Agreed, but you better be ready to fight a little bit when the "F" word is thrown around 🤣
