    Are there Neve transformers in the paths, In and Out Neve transformers or it's "clean" from the start and when on exit? Can you do all this manipulation with the sound without Neve transformers; for example when entering the unit (mix ...) if it has one, two etc. in the topology ...? The silk section has transformers if I'm not mistaken but you can adjust the levels so no problem there, what about other "sections"?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  2 месяца назад +1

      The MBT has 4 output transformers that are always in the signal path. Super Silk can be used to increase the saturation coming from these transformers but there will always be some level of color coming from those transformers even without the Super Silk section engaged. MBT is all about color, and a part of that is the transformers. They are what Rupert was most known for.

      @@tronmosesmedia4816 Thanks for sharing. how is the sa 4000? I've been using MBT through AccessAnalog. before I get my physical MBT, I'm picking up a McDSP APB 8. Going to get used to the workflow of baking a lot of tracks. Then the MBT will probably be a baked drum crush (as mentioned here), as well as on the master bus.

  • @cmwallace1225
    @cmwallace1225 2 месяца назад

    Can you please explain how the SuperSilk section is working...the Blue and Red pots control the amount "pre-emphasis" (?), and the Harmonics pot is a mix/blend knob? They're also labeled Min and not "zero", so are they always in but just low when in engaged? Thanks

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  2 месяца назад

      The Harmonics knob is the same as the Texture knob in Rupert Neve's other designs. One can think about those as interchangeable terms.
      Each Red and Blue knob controls the amount of each kind of Silk is being applied. Then the Harmonics knob is the overall amount of Silk. Min is essentially no harmonic content from that section. Of course the signal is still passing through a transformer if Silk is engaged so we can’t say, even with the control set at minimum, that the signal is unaffected.

    Would a Neve orbit 5057 be needed if I had this?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  25 дней назад

      They do different things, and the 5057 summing allows you to get a Large Format Console (LFC) sound and integrate outboard gear into the mix process, with the enhanced width and depth and “mix glue” that only analog summing provides. The MBT adds very different saturation, variable width, parallel compression and a xener limiter, and both flavours of silk, as well as mastering EQ. So they are in fact quite complimentary IMO. The 5057 brings LFC sound in a very repeatable/recallable, and very controllable manner, while the MBT allows you to master your tracks/mixes/instruments and finalize your tone with a very different set of parameters than summing.
