  • The Royal Navy's most advanced destroyers have been deployed to the Caribbean, to support the British Overseas Territories during hurricane season, and fight drug trafficking in the region.
    HMS Dauntless with a new engine after being the first ship in her class to undergo a Power Improvement Program. Dauntless was declared ready for operation last month after nine months of intense training, going through all the demanding trials, tests and finally grueling assessments of its crew and all weapons and systems.
    Commanding Officer of the destroyer Ben Power says Dauntless is set to prove himself on the world stage again.

      @@shaunvdukewhat exactly is a superdestroyer? I wish people would stop putting “super” in front of military equipment to try and sensationalise it. It’s just a destroyer. A very capable destroyer, but by no means some sort of revolutionary ship.

    Engines should last a lifetime, what was wrong with the old ones?

    • @Spiretail
      @Spiretail Год назад +2

      Engine cooling was only designed for cool Atlantic temperatures, so they were having large issues with cooling the engines as far as I remember, which limited their running when sailing pretty much anywhere other than the UK/Northern Europe. This was to overhaul the cooling capacity of the engines so they can operate without restrictions in warmer environments.

      I think they never tested the ship in commissioning stage in warm water.
      What a joke.
      A classic problem where your test environment needs to be as close to possible to reality to give confidence that the product is going to work in the real world.
