Ryoba are amazing saws. They cut very very straight if you pull straight, so you can't correct much once you're going. The maebiki nokogiri is used for planking tree trunks. The cuts would have been faster if you could stand square to the cut and use both hands.
Nice Build.... Bonus points for the self launching board.... more bonus points for the Hand tool/ Power tool Struggle.... It is real.... Yes Very nice Build!
You covered the thoughts that go through my head so well when I get the idea to do a hand tools only project. Soon as I get to ripping a board... I start looking for the power tools! Haha... Great looking little toolbox.
“Hand tools only” LOL. Reminds me when I was 13 and told my Mom I was only going to wear dresses to school that year. I got cold in January (US) and asked for jeans and socks.
Beautiful job Scott. It’s good to have friends willing to hold you accountable, unnerving though that they find so much pleasure slapping your hand... Darlington, South Carolina USA
nicely done. i think the instructive thing here is how under appreciated the skills and time and patience needed to actually make things by hand are. very easy to churn things out with power tools, but that's production, not craft.
Nice job and the humor lightens it up. One thing would help me. Trying to determine exact length of the lid - the video goes over this key point very fast with no commentary. Fearful I’ll cut it too long (or worse too short).
Hi Merle, thank you! Yes the lid is a hard one to explain but I'll try. Keep in mind it is really simple and we can tend to over think it. Okay, first up, the lid must be long enough to straddle each end cap block, not by much, 3/16" is probably enough each end. Second, the lid needs to be able to slide fully to one end and clear the end cap at the other, so the lid can come out. If you do that the lid will be the right size. Then straddle the lid again. Place and mark out the fixed lid stop (Not the wedge). Glue it. Make your wedge. Straddle the lid again but make it so the lid stop block and end cap are win contact. Place you wedge on the lid. mark out the fixed portion on the lid. Glue it, When dry fit the wedge. it should all lock together and the wedge will not fall out as it is tapered in two directions. Remove the wedge and slide the lid toward the wedge end of the lid. the other end (with the stop block) should be such that it clears the end cap and the lid will come out. Hope this helps. It really is a enjoyable project.
Lovely jubblies. I was waiting for the big blob of sweat to roll off the end of the nose and onto the timber when you were planing. Good old TVille humidity. I was in the Army at Tully and there was a saw mill in Town there, man they used to have some great and hard to get rain forest timbers there, worth a look if you ever go that way.
Turned out great! I was trying to figure out why it's called a false bottom... I thought false bottom meant some type of hidden compartment, but maybe it's just because it's 2 pieces? Thanks for filming and sharing.
I see Scott Turner, and I immediately like. 👍🏻 Loved your perseverance as well as the final product. That being said, you really should go and have a look at This old Tony - he really knows how to get stock down to size by using just his hands and some science. Wizardry I tell you...
That is one awesome saw! The last time I used the shooter jig to square off wood was when I was at school 40 odd years ago..... Great work Master Ninja!
Enjoyed watching this and the bit of humor was great. I don't know if I have ever made something completely with hand tools except in Jr. High shop class.
What a neat little box that turned out fantastic. Keep up the great work and really looking forward to your next video. You should have 1 million subs already 'Jack of all trades'. :)
I greatly admire your effort to make this with hand tools only. It's a real challenge and "risk", but so rewarding. Thanks for sharing!!👍🏁
Thanks again!
This is an awesome build the fact that u can even cut that straight with a hand saw down the length of the board is amazing
Thanks Pete!

I've watched this about 3 times.. Really enjoyed it watching you work..
Thank you! It was a fun build and I use this box all the time.
Nice Build....
Bonus points for the self launching board....
more bonus points for the Hand tool/ Power tool Struggle.... It is real....
Yes Very nice Build!
Real it was, but at least I didn't have to spit or saw through a whole log like in the old days. Thanks Bill!
never apologize for video imperfections, background noise adds to authenticity a great video as always.
You definitely know your woodworking with hand tools - great video, thanks
Thanks Tony!
The wood butter really pops the grain, fabulous finish.
It's a nice product. thank you!
I think Aden was enjoying his part way too much. 🤣😂
The box turned out great and that wood butter really brings out the grain off the walnut.
👍🐯👍I like how you finished that rip cut. Its the last little bit that can become a nuisance.
Those American Walnut pieces had some serious sound in them when they dropped to the floor. Great little box. Another work of art!!!
The simplistic beauty of the design and the quality of the build brings a tear to the eye.
Gosh, Thanks! Great complement!
It's wonderful how things work out. The reality of long tedious rip cuts ensured the existence of apprentices and thus the craft lived on.
Always the apprentice I am : ) Thanks Paul!
At 20:33 awesome sounds! I could watch that a million times! Thank you for the great content and keep up the great work!
Thank you! Yes the wood has that beautiful sound. I liked that part also.
That is a fabulous build!
Thank you Nick!
Mr. Turner Scott well done with all hand tools.
Thank you Sam!
Patience of a saint well done Scott
Nice job Scott 👍

iv been a boiler maker for a good 40 years . i find working with wood to be therapeutic . nice video
Totally understand. Thanks Philip.
The ability to learn new techniques and skills and turn that into art it what makes a craftsman, and you sir are one
Wow, that walnut really popped! Great build. Now I wonder how we ever got by without Japanese saws.
You covered the thoughts that go through my head so well when I get the idea to do a hand tools only project. Soon as I get to ripping a board... I start looking for the power tools! Haha...
Great looking little toolbox.
It's not a bandsaw, it's an apprentice!
Good for you.....Mr Scott

“Hand tools only” LOL. Reminds me when I was 13 and told my Mom I was only going to wear dresses to school that year. I got cold in January (US) and asked for jeans and socks.

Very good
Well done! Nice peace of handcrafted toolbox.

It’s always harder to do a “simple” project than you first think, great job and perseverance.
The five most feared words in my family, "How hard would it be......."
