Wore a bowtie to work and a colleague said I looked like a Nation of Islam meat pie seller, lol. I'd never heard of such a person, so I just typed it in randomly to see. I must say these guys are way more handsome than I ever could be. Their motivation is contagious; I love it.
I'm a white Christian and one time while working in Los Angeles, I was approached by one of these gentlemen, selling their pies. I purchased one and was given one of their cards, identifying themselves as members of the Nation of Islam, which I had never heard of before, but reasoned they were simply another Islamic organisation like many others in Los Angeles. The pie itself was quite pleasant and I was grateful to the gentleman for the business. I've read of many controversial opinions about the organisation, but this gentleman seemed like the opposite of any questionable agendas or suspicions. And I do commend the general practice of selling something harmless like a pie, whether a bean pie, or any other food ware. To that salesman, wherever he might be in Los Angeles, keep on doing good for yourself and for others, regardless of gender, race, or personal beliefs. And thank you for the business we shared. That bean pie was very appetizing and satisfying. It's simple gestures like sales, with no malice or any negative or questionable context, but to promote good relations for peace and harmony in the world, that can make the world a better place for everyone. One a side note: another evening I was in the same neighbourhood, at the same intersection of Slauson and La Brea. There was a black gentleman playing a saxophone while waiting for the bus in front of the Shell. I was fortunate to be in my car stopped at a red light. He finished his song and I applauded for him, which he heard and shouted, "Thank you, brother!" I managed to shout back, "That was beautiful!" before the light turned green. I quickly bid him a good evening before driving on. Love and peace.

One day in the 1970s, I wandered into their restaurant on South Main in L.A.and Brother Les 2X, took time to teach me how to eat, how to properly prepare food, and not only what to eat but what NOT to eat. The wisdom of Malcolm X, clarified so much that I would eventually encounter as a young Black man growing up in the world. I am infinitely grateful for the time they shared and the lessons I took. I notice some reprehensible statements on this page about these young men. I would only ask to be present when you cowards tell them to their faces.
