So far he is not asking him the questions I want to hear answers to though! I understand hes focused on a conviction and the legalities but I want to hear the psychological aspect to this crime, the whys, the what did he feel like; the how could he do what he did, destroy his own & so many lives, especially to the young children he presumably loved at one time? What does he think & feel about their actions now? I am not hearing him ask those kinds of questions yet but hopefully he does cover some of the whys later, I will persevere with listening though its tough. One of the most interesting parts of this video is when the detective pretends not to know about columbine or James Holmes. Having the kid answer the question provided some great insight as to how well researched these boys were about mass murder and also their motivations.
They were definitely interested in mass murder but all the kid answered was how many people were killed without any detail. If you ask me the only insight I got was that the kid was excited at the idea of how many he could kill in one go... Not necessarily the act of killing but the amount of killing he could dish out I think that was a main motivation for him....Other than that his mind seems completely blank not remorseful what so ever. It's as if the only time he feels stimulus is when he kills something but even then nothing is really getting threw to him. A completely empty person
It's the detectives job to be like that to see what information they can get out of the suspect. Of course he would know who James Holmes is and what he done, but i think he just acted like a blank canvas to get as much information as he could to build a picture about the suspect.
It's all manipulation. I love it and hate it. I love watching this stuff because I find it all fascinating. I hate that these specific cops can be so good/bad at their jobs that they can get innocent people to commit to crimes they didn't commit. And that to me is also interesting. They use the same techniques on an innocent person because by this point, it doesn't matter, they think they know that you did it. Often they are right. Often there is plenty of evidence to get thrm there and they just want the confession. But once in a while, they have a truly innocent person that they are sure is guilty, for whatever reason and sometimes these people confess because the Reid technique is extremely effective at what it is intended to do: extracting confessions. If you're guilty and you did what they are asking you to confess, you might alter the crime a bit to make you look better but you aren't going to confess to some other equally bad crime that you didn't truly commit. So for guilty people, it's fine (kind of. I personally think some of the methods are a bit unethical.) But for innocent people, that same thing that makes a guilty person snap and confess will also make an innocent person confess, except the innocent person will have less fear of actually going to prison because they know they didnt do it so they will be thinking "I want to go home. I'll say what makes them happy because im tired physically and mentally and since I didn't do it, this will get fixed later anyways." Not everyone who is falsely accused and/or convicted will falsely confess. Age and IQ and language/cultural differences are huge contributors. But the fact that it happens and then even if they recant the next day, that is often all that is needed to convict, makes me sad.
It's a basic interrogation tactic. All interrogators play dumb when it comes to any bits of information the suspect brings up themselves in order to gage their knowledge, interests, and frame of mind.
That officer is so cool. He’s got great people skills, he’s showing how to do a very good interview, brilliant work. No pressure just let the demon unleash the badness.
What do you expect him to do? Yell at him? lol All cops act like that until you tell them the whole truth. Then they become the dicks they really are. Tell him you don't want to answer, and see how nice he is.
Very mixed feelings about his approach. Sure, easy-going. But his statements like 'you guys had all the cool stuff to make it happen' don't feel right at all. Not sure he had a clearly thought-out line of enquiry at all, not sure he has been trained for this, or US cops just don't have sufficient training.
This officer deserves huge recognition. He should be teaching a class on interrogating, especially for interrogating younger people such as this. Bravo. Edit: it’s also very interesting that the male officer appears to be covering up tattoos on his right arm with a flesh colored sleeve. Absolutely brilliant to appear more friendly and non-macho as possible.
I was a cop in California for 22 years. The scariest part of this whole video is the kid is intelligent, educated and well spoken.this is the kid next door. @Thomas Robinson I'm sure even the most hardened detectives are affected by this shit when they have to do it. I absolutely know that this guy is repulsed by the shit he is hearing right now. He's just trained to hide it.
Wow. This is chilling to listen to. This kid is so casual while talking about how he took part in something so heinous - involving his own parents and siblings. He either doesn’t realise the magnitude of the situation he’s in right now....or he does and just doesn’t care.
If he & his brother contemplated fame, TV, movies, books being written about them, the whole point was maximum magnitude. He's simply incapable of any emotional response... he can only hope to elicit/force emotional responses of others. Their horror allows him to feel the thrill of power.
Why the last 15-20 minutes of the video was necessary is beyond me. I don’t understand why y’all felt you needed to add the silent scribbling of him writing out the confession in full…
He cared more about how he lost his cell phone than about his family like when the interviewer shows empathy of “now you don’t have a cell phone anymore” he smiles and he’s like “no I don’t” like that’s a bigger nuisance than killing off the ones that pay for it 20:40
The lady cop was audibly sickened by his actions when she asked him about tricking Christopher and Victoria into opening the bathroom door by pretending he was a victim. That is one of the most disgusting acts I've ever heard described. I applaud them both for their fortitude and strength in resisting the urge to throttle this little twerp.
I assumed it's because she wasn't a cop but rather a social worker but went back to check and he calls her a detective, which is weird because he's 16 at this time and so a social worker should be there due to his age but maybe things haven't caught up yet down in Oklahoma.
They would lose their jobs if they did that. Why is everyone saying this ? This is what he does. This man probably interrogated hundreds of murderers. This isn’t new to him.
As a mentally sane person, I surely guess it scratches the point of impossibility listening to this kid. In the same family, there were two individuals that found each other, casually murdering their own family, planning to kill at least 50 or even 500 more. If that is not disturbing enough, the 16 years old talks about this as I would do about cereals. No denying, no remorse, no sadness. The worst thing for him must be his missing phone and that they got caught that fast. I am not sure if mental doctors and clinical psychologists can or should really help here. They got both locked up for life and I am glad they were. Cannot imagine what they could have done with 3000 rounds of ammo and guns.
well Michael might not be locked up for life actually, he has the possibility of parole, which i sort of get why, because he doesn't seem like he's the type of person to go out of his way to kill his whole family without his brother Robert instigating everything, it really wasn't his idea, but on the other hand, he's a dangerous psychopath... i'm not sure parole was a good idea
@Asena Aidana Really? Because the comment suggests he/she is a native English speaker. I mean learn to spell. It’s called a homophone, two words that sound alike that are spelled differently. Ex : New/Knew, Beer/Bier & Alter/Altar. This shit is taught in elementary school.
These boy's parents either did know that they had mental issues, or, they didn't pay attention. I learned the personalities, moods and souls of each of my five children and I paid very close attention for any abnormal behaviors throughout their childhood lives... I paid attention... but from a distance.
@Ian Mangham From a distance I mean pretty much in a silent distance as to where they don't notice so much that you're paying that " close" of attention....
@Ian Mangham My kids are doing great.. my oldest son had a learning disability growing up. I was very careful in letting him play certain video games that had violence and such ( at least when he was at home ) I honestly believe that this and limiting his time on the computer made a big difference... as far as tv and movies, I learned that my youngest son had nightmares if he watched anything even minutely scary. So, I dealt with that by trying to not watch those things on t.v. with him there. The other kids were fine with the scary movies and understood that they couldn't watch them unless their little brother was busy doing something else with mom. Usually I would find something fun for him and I to do. In doing these things the way I did, not one of the five kids ever felt left out of anything by their other siblings. They are in ages from 21 to 42 right now and very kind, have well mannered dispositions and are very happy adults... I am pleased that they too now use the basic philosophies in raising their children as I did with them. Sorry this reply is so long. I am in the process of writing a book on these certain philosophies and methods which can be used as a good base for others in helping our children when they are at a very young age, and even possibly helping to prevent some( if even one) of these types of tragedies from happening...Always keeping in mind that what works for one may not work for another. But it's worth taking a shot at :)
@Ian Mangham Oh, I have definitely made my share of mistakes... I've many times wished that babies should come with a good manual... lol Thanks for the correspondence... you're very kind...
@Erika M Your opinion is absolutely correct... !! Keep up the good work.. it will definitely be worth it.. Not only for you, but your children as well. :)
Most evil child in history? Uh, reverse engineer that logic when you factor into the equation that his brother's interrogation wasn't released to the public because of how much he glorified his own romanticization of the entire murder.
The captions are pointless with this kids lisp. Me turning on captions to try and hear a certain phrase that seems important. "the ice king is up to bad stuff on a boat" Oh ok....
Great job here by the cops, very impressive. The level of politeness and patience considering what happened is wild. I wouldn't feel comfortable being in that room, I don't care how innocent he seems. The way he talks about his family, holy crap.
That’s how you get information out of people….I do psychiatry in prisons and I’m never rude or judgmental while evaluating people, I’m polite and calm and they just open up to me. I’m not there as part of their crime though, I’m just assessing their mental health and needs.
What I was concerned about was the cop left his biro pen on the paper when he was explaining to this evil child his rights. He could have just picked it up and stabbed the officer in the neck with it!
I am horrified and sickened by this kid...no remorse, no tears. I just can't even imagine doing this. I think he's lying, I think he participated more then he's admitting. I'd like to hear what the other kid says happened. I hope they both get life without parole.
around 3:30, the interrogator said, "I just got thrown into this... could you do me a favor and let's start at the beginning..." I bet that was a calculated move on the interrogator's part to get the devil guy talking
Imagine being a mom that just was stabbed over and over again, can’t move anymore, see your 12 year old child run into the room with his throat slashed, he collapses on the floor and then you see your other child come in and start stabbing your 12 year old child in the chest over and over and you can’t do shit about it.
I went from the interrogation of Stephen McDaniel to this video and granted I am only 8 minutes deep into this... Him and his brother are truly evil. There little brother and sister opening the door to save his life because they believed he was being hurt, was heartbreaking.
Those poor family members, the parents must have had no idea how troubled their sons were.

Of course he would know who James Holmes is and what he done, but i think he just acted like a blank canvas to get as much information as he could to build a picture about the suspect.
yeah haha i laughed so hard...everyone in the fbi knows about mass murders
I'll say what makes them happy because im tired physically and mentally and since I didn't do it, this will get fixed later anyways."
Not everyone who is falsely accused and/or convicted will falsely confess.
He did a great job and i can tell why they had him do the interview with the boy.
Excellent detective no wonder they put in there so good to see the excellent job well done
What do you expect him to do? Yell at him? lol All cops act like that until you tell them the whole truth. Then they become the dicks they really are. Tell him you don't want to answer, and see how nice he is.
@@jeffkruse9004 which is constantly if you live in the US or UK lol
Maybe it was more for his safety and being able to go undercover in the future

I am in the process of writing a book on these certain philosophies and methods which can be used as a good base for others in helping our children when they are at a very young age, and even possibly helping to
prevent some( if even one) of these types of tragedies from happening...Always keeping in mind that what works for one may not work for another. But it's worth taking a shot at :)

Great job here by the cops, very impressive. The level of politeness and patience considering what happened is wild. I wouldn't feel comfortable being in that room, I don't care how innocent he seems. The way he talks about his family, holy crap.
That's why you would never be considered for a job like this.
That’s how you get information out of people….I do psychiatry in prisons and I’m never rude or judgmental while evaluating people, I’m polite and calm and they just open up to me. I’m not there as part of their crime though, I’m just assessing their mental health and needs.
They have to get counselling these detectives to cope with all the evil they see and hear about.
@@marywilliams9858
Exactly!! If not they would eventually just not feel any thing. It's scary that their are a lot of people like him on the streets.

No problem! I thought it would be helpful since its not in the description, even though it definitely should have been included.

For those who do not understand what they are saying in the video, there is the transcript!

The level of professionalism and empathy (real or not) is above and beyond the detectives of other cases I have looked into. Gonna keep watching, but this was such a night and day difference.

Nah they do that for the comfort of the person being interrogated it’s almost like a friendly get together but also getting the vital information they need….
I’m lovin’ the captions: “He found he could legally buy guns without putting me in Oklahoma”. Well that’s useful to know.

I can literally see the charges racking up as they’re asking questions “Did you plan this?” Yes. “Did you like, write anything down at all?” Yes. “Did you pick a date?” Yes. = SECURING THAT PREMEDITATED = First Degree Murder Charge.
Let’s also read him the Miranda Warning, and then have him answer four questions to prove he can read and write and can’t wiggle out of not understanding what he was read. Slick.
the 13/14 year old girl survived being slit in the throat. My god, my heart aches for her and the suffering the deceased went through AND for the two officers who have to listen to a play by play confession. These two are monsters

He may want to kill his siblings so that they will not be alone without their parents, death is more comfortable for them

watched the whole thing, my jaw dropped at parts of this, the way he describes his little sister as ' the 4 year old '. The officers played this well, the way their attitude changed towards him when they reentered room. i have no idea how officers do this, they hear the ins and outs of this vastly disgusting story, maybe see the pictures. after that they go home to there 2 or 3 children and spouse sit down and have dinner. " hows ya' go honey? " good day?" cant imagine it..

Him and his brother are truly evil. There little brother and sister opening the door to save his life because they believed he was being hurt, was heartbreaking. They opened the door to help him,and he done them like that. I truly do not see how anyone could do something like that to their family. His brother is even more crazy I think and think he really needs locked away from everyone else. Even in prison he's a danger and has attacked and tried to kill people. Lock them away and throw away the key.
Who is he?
xD it's funny
They always was I've met him a friend of mine was his friend n my nieces friend
Who the thuck is he
He's disconnected himself from reality too much, while he is in prison he will slowly come back to reality and hopefully realize what he did and then feel the pain and disgust from that.
he will and he will be rotten in prison so its 2late for him.

Some background that seems to be critically missing from the title or description. This is know as the Broken Arrow Killings because it took place in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The murdered victims were David Bever (54), April Bever (45), Daniel Bever (12), Christopher Bever (6), & Victoria Bever (5). Crystal Bever (13) was critically injured but survived & Autumn Bever (2) was unharmed. The murderers were 18-year-old Robert and 16-year-old Michael Bever. This is a tragedy beyond comprehension!

This case is honestly one of the more disturbing I’ve ever seen. I know there were likely serious issues in the family, but to go about killing your entire family and attempting to kill a baby is unreal. It’s always shocking to see the disconnect in killers and how they view their crimes like no big deal. Sickening.
Forgive all people.
Life time of horrible trauma that can’t be bottled up. They still need to do the time for the crime. Most of the criminals on death row are the damaged tortured little boys like “the lost boys” in Peter Pan story. It’s truly sad and we all have a role even just as part of society to look out for warning signs. Heart breaking. Thankyfully the rate of crimes like these are dropping its really rare.

Yes he does care! People always forget there is also a Satan. Just because bad things happen it doesn't mean God wasn't there. I'm sure it definitely broke his heart. To see what was going on, but he's coming soon as the bible predicts that the world would turn cold during the last days and it's suppose to get worse before he returns.
