I know Mike Francesa was around in New York in the 1980's. I say this as a Yankees fan... I remember the Mets dominating the backpages, game attendance and buzz from 1984 to 1990. The City was much more of a Mets town in the 1980s than a Yankee town. All these talking heads saying "for the first time...." must have short memories. Fortunately, it was only for one decade and the Yankees came off the mat in the 1990s. But growing up in the 1980s in NYC the Mets were absolutely the team on top.
