    I don’t understand what my fellow Mets fans don’t get. Did Judge have a trouble to get a market? Did Soto have a trouble getting a market? Did Ohtani struggle did get a contract? No cause these are generational players. Mets fans are talking about Pete like he is that. They should see teams are not going crazy after him. People were willing do whatever it takes with the other players. Teams know what Pete is. Everyone does except our fellow Mets fans.

      Pete is the Mets' best option right now at 1B and best option as a power hitter/threat/protection for Soto. Agree he is not a generational talent. Those are RARE! Most MLB players are fair. Some are decent. Few are good. 20 are GREAT. 10 are superstars. Pete is Good and will be for a few more years. That's why Mets fans want him. Add to that he is fun, likeable, homegrown, will get almost all offensive record as a Met, RARE...UNIQUE...that is why many fans would like to keep him. I hope this answers your question

    • @dashx1103
      @dashx1103 12 дней назад

      Absolutely nobody is talking about Pete as a "generational talent" akin to Judge, Soto, or Ohtani. That is just made up. Many Mets fans want Alonso back, because they like Pete and appreciate what he's meant to the team, but also because they recognize that he can be an important component hitting behind Soto. I don't think there is much mystery here.

      Not the way he's trending. Got lucky with a couple live ball seasons. He's a 17-24 million per year player for 3-5 seasons. I'd let him walk. You need that DH slot for Soto in the future.

    It’s a frustrating situation all around. As a fan with a soft spot for homegrown players (I also believe Pete brings an intangible boost to team culture and energy that often gets overlooked), I want him back. I think the Mets should offer him a mid-term deal that keeps him here and happy. If anyone’s a villain here, it’s Boras. His advice to test the market has driven a wedge between Pete and the team-it's what he does and to an extent you have to live with it because baseball is a business. To put the Mets in the best position moving forward, they need to get a deal done to keep Pete this year. From there, we can focus on trading farm players who don’t have a future with the team for pitching. If Pete opts out again, we can look at other available options next year-like Vlad. And if Pete opts out because he has a good year, that’s a win-win.
    Bottom line: Get the deal done.

    Pete said on WFAN that he doesn't think David Stearns wants Pete Alonso back, but the fault in that logic is that if he really wanted to move on, he would have more strongly pursued one of the other first base free agent. He would not have sacrificed flexibility for the sake of putting on a show about potentially wanting Alonso back. The difference between Alonso and Soto is that there were more competitors for Soto who were willing to make a deal for a lucrative contract

    What are the rules on trading a player after signing them? Do you have to wait a certain amount of time? I ask because one team that can’t seem to get a star to sign with them and that could afford to give a 5 year $150 million offer to Alonso is the blue jays. But I know they probably would prefer not to have to give up the draft picks. Could the Mets sign Alonso to the deal and then he be a part of a deal for Guerrero? Give Alonso plus prospects and other pieces and get Guerrero (but I would ask for a window to sign that offer Guerrero wanted from the blue jays). Or if we can’t make the trade like that can we make a deal for Guerrero where we give prospects and players so the blue jays can complete and recoup their farm system and then the blue jays just make the longer term (5 year $150m) to Alonso

    Cohen and Stearns are not idiots. They’ve been playing Boras for months. Why should they give Alonso more than a 1-year, prove it contest. Pete wanted that last year and didn’t handle it well. Why should Cohen /Stearns reward him for a bad year and 172 Ks and until he ran into one in Milwaukee?
    He didn’t prove it last year as he chased sliders in the dirt 3 feet outside at least once a game And left a ton of runners in scoring position all year.
    So here’s your deal: 1 year- $30M. And try number 2 of proving your worth it. You prove it and we’ll pay you.
    But after a full year of flailing at pitches you couldn’t reach with a telephone pole, NOBODY is going to offer you even 3 years for even $75M.
    Get your swing straight and show some discipline. Don’t automatically take 2 inner half fastballs and then chase outside. Sign for a year, watch how Soto conducts himself in the batters box, and produce. Then you’ll have suitors next year.
    The $30M is a reward for your contributions in previous years. You are not automatically worth more than that.

      @@bruce5402Oh, here I thought you were voicing concern about your team. Stearns philosophy is depth, injuries are inevitable so he keeps viable SP depth. Some teams have a great starting 5 but no good plan if one of them gets hurt.

    • @bruce5402
      @bruce5402 13 дней назад

      @jayshiggs no I got you. It's a correct philosophy. However just getting bodies is not depth. Clay Holmes was a horrible starting pitcher with the Pirates. When the Yankees got him they turned him into a very good 7th and 8th inning pitcher. He had one great year as a closer and was aweful as a closer. He is not a starter. He throws way too many pitches and will never make it to 5 innings. Montas, well we all know how bad he has done. So yes Stern has added bodies but they are horrible. The Mets have only 3 decent starters. Unless they improve that getting Soto will give you a championship. By the way ibloved having Soto but as the year progressed he is very much a liability as a defender. Good luck with that poor rotation. Better hope your bullpen excess their talent or last year which many thought was a fluke will not come close. Oh my team has 5 very good startes and is much deeper than the Mets now that Williams a top 5 close is in the bullpen. Comparing the Mets rotation to the Yanks as being better is way off. Those are the facts.

      @AnthonyAyala-k4j if you're referring to me, I really don't know. All I know is there is a lot of talk about this player who, by all metrics, is below average defensively and did not have an overwhelming season except the clutch homer against Williams. There are no teams bidding for him, so he will end up a Met at whose price. The Mets are bidding against themselves. Instead of focusing on this player, Met fans should be upset that their starting rotation is worse than last year and they have a mediocre bullpen. You paid a ridiculous amount for a 1 tool player, and I believe they are worse than last year as we speak

    • @TheKilrmy
      @TheKilrmy 13 дней назад

      @@bruce5402 Hard to take you serious when you don’t know how to use “worse” and “worst.”
      That said, it’s an ignorant and asinine comment to say the rotation is worse than last season. Senga is back, Manaea pitched well and is back, Peterson pitched well and is back, and the Mets have a bunch of potential 2025 versions of Manaea and Severino. Is the rotation a question mark? Sure. Saying it’s worse than last season is just an unintelligent comment.
      As for the bullpen, they had injuries last season that weakened their bullpen. Yet, this season they will have Butto back, Nunez back, Reed Garrett, Reid-Foley, Diaz and some others.
      So your comments clearly show your lack of knowledge about the Mets roster and that you’re just a random, ignorant commenter.
