No long wait. You forget brilliant records. Innuendo Was much worse, never liked their latest work. What's about classics like 'a Day at the races, news of the woŕld and Hot space. They had the guts to Do something totally different, changed style but still made magic song.

I was absolutely crazy about Queen in my early teens (13, 14), but then I decided to venture out into earlier stuff (The Beatles, Buddy Holly etc). I completely ignored Queen for around 3 years, but now I'm back and still able to sing all the lyrics perfectly and still rocking out so hard. That's the special thing about Queen. You can never forget them.

Remember listening to this in a darkened room in 1982 when I was sent abroad to college. I hated the first few weeks there, then slowly accepted it, and loved it, ended up being one of the best few years of my life. And I was in Lausanne, Switzerland, a few stops away from Queens recording studios, although never knew it then. Last year, I went back to see friends, and visited Queens recording studio in Montreux and saw Freddie's statue. I am 50 now, I was 16 back then. Love you Fred, such a big part of my life 💕

You are so fortunate Mark. I've wanted to do the pilgrimage but haven't had the chance.
I've been a Queen fan since 1974. Loved these guys from the first time I heard them on my radio ... I was gaga over them.
I was a nurse way back then and worried a lot about Freddie and his carefree lifestyle. The medical community in the late 1970s as a whole were worried when we got the first few HIV cases. We had no idea what it was - it was like they had some weird kind of leukemia. It wasn't until 1983 that Researchers found out it was caused by a virus.
My heart went out to Brian, Roger and John as they watched their brother slowly dying before their eyes. What a horrible time for all of them.
When we lost Freddie we lost a legend - not just him but the 3 surviving members of Queen too. They were in mourning for a long time before they could function again and John threw in the towel which meant that Brian and Roger lost 2 brothers not just one. The fact that Brian and Roger are currently touring is such a blessing. Both of them live for their music and they are both Queen's essence. It was Brian and Roger initially in 1968-69 and it seems we've come full circle.
The fact that Brian and Roger are happy to reach out to fans online is a blessing. If you haven't connected with Bri and Roger they are on Instagram and post regularly about a bunch of topics. Brian's Instagram is brianmayforreal and Rogers is rogertaylorofficial

Same can be said of many great bands, that's why the recording company releases "Greatest Hits" collections, I would say the first 5-7/8 years of Queens existence there output could largely be labeled "Rock", even though ample songs in this era were better labeled pop, I can't say "Bring back Leroy Brown" is something I would label as "Rock" (and even better than calling it "Dixieland", just throw it in the middle of a mix of other "rock" or "pop" songs). Led Zepplin for instance, surely a serious influence on Queen, also wedged non "rock" songs in between hard rock and "heavy metal" tunes, to great affect in my opinion..."Fool in the Rain" would be more appropriately called "Reggae" or "Carribien" than 'rock", no harm as I feel it makes the band more interesting than the same old thing song after song! I have read one of Queen's great hits was originally going to be put out as a "Country" style song...though it worked for Elton John early on, I can't ever quite imagine Freddie in a cowboy hat as a country crooner! I lived through the 70's and AOR (album oriented rock) where some stations would play an entire album, therefore exposing the audience to a much wider spectrum of a bands sound than just top 40/20/10 hits, this required an audience with much greater attention span, and generally created life time fans of the bands exposed.

How did Brian write this song when he was so young? It's uncanny. Makes me cry as it did 40 years ago. His dad helped him build the red special.....after being some sort of boffin who helped win the war. There is something terribly English about it. " A word in your ear" that's a very middle class expression you don't hear anymore. It's that old fashioned, reserved stiff upper lip England trying to communicate across the generation gap. There is so much empathy in this song which is why I find it so moving despite it being a very refined bit of heavy rock.
Master of feedback and echo too. Q2 is my favourite album.

It was definitely their best album but when it came out Queen were nowhere near as big and well known as they were to become, so many fans really only discovered the first few albums in retrospect, Queen became a lot more commercial with their music (by that I mean they released a lot of singles for an album band) so a lot of people who followed later found their earlier albums less accessible musically. The same thing happened with Genesis, many people didn’t know that Peter Gabriel was the original singer, with Phil Collins their music became more “middle of the road” and commercial.

I am a 60-year-old man (father of two - both DAUGHTERS)....and "Father To Son" was and still is my favorite Queen song ever....before I had kids and especially since.....I've always loved the music and harmony of the song....and just recently I dwelt on the lyrics moreso, and man are they beautiful to a fella with children.....especially (as you, loucap81, pointed out) the part before the fadeout where Freddie so beautifully sings "but the air you need I live to give you"....that lovely part right there, segueing into that that terrific fadeout, is about as good as rock music gets in my opinion. I was staining my deck the other day when that song randomly (out of 16,000 on my phone's hard drive) came up....and like I said, I've always loved that song...but when it got to THAT part, it hit me like never before...and my eyes became so moist with love for my kids that I had to stop and wipe away the tears before I could see to paint. I'm thankful that I have such a passion for rock music. Can't play a lick, but I sure love songs like "Father To Son" and I will until the day I die. I'm glad you agree with me, loucap81!

Queen is really the best band of all time the more I think of it. Their albums are all so fluid and soo enjoyable to listen to when you're at home cooking or driving to work. I feel like Queen has no bad songs, of course some songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, under pressure or radio gaga are better but there is very little drop off between their " hit songs" and their relatively unknown songs like " father to son", " Spread your wings" or " keep yourself alive". Thats what makes them special. For example, as good as Led zeppelin is and their stairway to heaven song is, some of their songs on their albums are terrible, I have to skip over them. I have never done this with a queen song

I like many songs by those bands, but I can;t even name 10 good songs by led zeppelin, yet I know 50 good queen songs. I also love some pink floyd songs, but only maybe 20% of them. I really think queen is better overal. And I am not a fanboy, I haven;t listened much to them in the past 10 years but whenever I revisit them I am very impressed by the around quality.
