Oh I do love a putter ❤❤❤ well I do still have my Newport 2 but I still love my Seemore Mallet. Maybe it’s time for a change but I like to stick to something with that stability.
I have to disagree with both Anser and Newport being in there...I'm not disagreeing based on the Scotty quality or refinement of the original Anser design, but no Anser, no Scotty, imo. But what the hell do I know anyway? 😁
You are missing my Cann & Taylor Hickory shaft beast, I’ve used it for 60 years, perfect
Wilson 8802 must be up there! Bought my son a Zebra as his first putter (he still has it but it rattles lol). Nick Price a big user of it. Really like the feel of the Spider. Need to save my pennies and get a fitting one day.
I don’t challenge your five, but two I would put on the list would firstly be the Ping B60, perhaps the first move toward a mallet style putter and lastly in the “new trends setter” category, Lie angle balance, be that L.A.B. itself or other versions, perhaps the first really “new” innovation in golf equipment in many many years.
I’ve gone LAB to be honest I’ll never go back
I'm officially the world's worst putter. The kids
have bought me an Odyssey 2 ball 10 putter for my 70th Birthday so we'll see 😕
Drive for show and putt for Dough..Or as my Nan used to tell me “Drive like a Gorilla and putt like a Fairy”:😂..She only ever had one putter from the late 50’s a “Golden Goddess butter knife”.. Always said any putter is a good putter…If you can Putt😂..Have certainly made up for her one purchase Putter, got a collection of 60 or so putters, all brands and styles..Best for me is the old Bullseye putter..Often take Nans putter out for a run, is a great connection to the lady that introduced me to golf❤
I don't play that often but had a Cleveland blade putter and always seemed to push it right. But luckily won the Taylormade spider putter, feels better balanced and gives me more confidence on the green
my own inspirational putter was the odyssey Rossie used by Anika Sorenstam (my favourite player at the time) I have used different versions of this putter since...Odyssey white hot Rossie in the bag right now with a Lamkin sink fit skinny grip . Tried others but nothing seems to gel with me like that putter...Bettinardi putters have come the closest.
I still own original Ping Anser and Zebra putters. But I don’t use them. I use Oddysey.
I think you only put the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 in this group is because you have it. It's clearly been inspired by the Ping Anser and has no innovation or instilled no inspiration in other manufacturers. I think the next big innovation is the Lie Angel Balanced putter, which is already being copied by PXG & Evnroll
I'm currently gaming a Ping CA 70 mallet which looks remarkably like the Zebra but without the stripes. Never realised the similarity until seeing it in your video!!
Nice list Dan, I still use my Anser4 with plenty of lead tape. Ray Cook was responsible for many quality putters over the years and how can you miss out the OG Wilson 8802 used by so many greats and TPA 18 as wielded by Sir Nick Faldo. Worth mentioning the old hickory trusty of Ken Brown too
I used my original 1997 sole stamp teryllium Newport consistently from then till the start of this year (as you saw at the belfry) until I saw a couple online for 4 figures! Currently benched as an investment for the mini me’s.
I remember testing the original spider when it came out and couldn’t get over how massive and ugly it was but it was unbelievably well balanced and holed everything with it so I think it did well. The tour mini looks great nowadays.
At the start I was I betting you’d forget Zebra’s, I think it was originally RAM, but you hit it early. Are they direct to consumer now?
Classics missing could be Wilson TPA’s or the 8802, but only for my memories of watching TV during Faldo years. I don’t think they broke the mould and especially 8802 had a sweet spot the size of an atom, forget MOI.
I have it in my mind that one of the best putters ever Mark McNulty used a Titleist bullseye, another that couldn’t be accused of forgiveness.
Some great putters for sure. Still have my old Ping Anser 4. Seems the Zebra and the Rossie are at least cousins if not brothers. I've never bagged either though. I did buy an Odyssey 2-Ball when they first came out back in the early 2000's. Used it for several years. It was responsible for a complete turn-around in my putting. I've had a few SC Newport 2's but really need a longer sight line than they offer. Been using a PLD DS-72 with excellent results this last year. Really suits me. You know you have a good one when you quit looking at everything else out there.
Great insight and I 100% agree with you. I am a bit of a messer when it comes to putters. I have had The Ping Isopur with the plastic insert, Ping Zing, Scotty Newport 2 with a weight kit included, now upwards of £100 just for the kit, The zebra with the weights in the bottom, the 2 ball odyssey, then a Cleveland TR1 I think it was called and now Scotty select M1. Before I bought the last Scotty I did look at the spider but I thought it felt quite clunky off the face, hence bought the Scotty 👍
I remember the Zebra putter, Nick Price used one when he was winning everything. I have a center shafted ER2 EVNROLL , I had a Rife center shafted anser type putter for years and then moved to a couple different types and brands but never felt as accurate plus I believe in the technology Mr Rife puts in his designs in the EVNROLL company after he sold the old Rife company
I’ve still got my original Ping Answer, also my second putter a bullseye and third a seemore blade.
Ping Anser. I have one, bought in about 1972. Still a fabulous putter
Had the Anser 2 (got stolen), zebra still in the garage and the two which I sold and wished I hadn’t. Been using the Rossie for about 10 years - inspired by Kenny Perry. Love the spider look, but whilst the Rossie behaves there’s no need to be unfaithful. 😂
I have been using a couple of spiders for a few years now and love them , but I can't help thinking if money were no object I would get a .L.A.B. putter
I started with a Ping Anser and worked through various putters until I settled on a TM Spider.
I’ve got a Zebra putter. Oldish model bought it about 15 years ago. You can take the base off and add lead shot to weight it. Still got the black and white knitted headcover. I’m sure Woosie had it in his bag in the late 90s.
Fair old lump of a putter, great for winter golf!!
Shane Lowry has changed recently from the 2-ball to a Spider
surely the Yes Putter with the C shaped groove on the face would or should be involved in this.
also how about the LAB putter or the Seemore putters?
As it’s of All Time, good to add John Letters Golden Goose and Wilson 8802/8813
Meh. Where’s the Golden Goose? The original centre shaft marvel.
I had a two ball for fifteen years and just moved into a fitted lab putter. I didn’t want to like it tbh but it’s so easy to use. First two outings 32 putts and 34 putts so well impressed. Definitely a putter that people should look at.
As I am having putting woes, I am having the odd putt with different putters from time to time - not finding anything that says ‘yes’ & so my Scotty is safe from the pond for the time being ….
Had a Zebra putter loved it but got stolen with rest of my clubs replaced with odyssey two ball had now for 15 years and never want to change
Zebra. Still got one. Along with the knitted woollen zebra cover
Got a LAB mezz 1 max. Best I’ve ever had! And have had some putters 😂
Bought a spider in the summer not looked back since
I used all of them at one point in time. The Two ball stayed in my bag for a decade.
Dan, what a great list, however maybe being more of a modern classic, I would have to say I think that the Odyssey #7 should be added to the list. I personally do not think that you can bump any of them off the list but seeing that the 7 shape has influenced current designs from SC, Ping, etc. I think justifies a 6th spot on the list. That is unless you add the 8802 as #6 and then the 7 as #7.
Thanks for the continued great content. Absolutely a fan and enjoy watching over and over.
@@mikehoffman7131 #7 putter by Odyssey was my number 6 pick 👍
Yep, the Scotty is just another Ping Answer clone...#7 should have made it in just for variety...with so many on tour it defo should have made top 5.
I have the odyssey #7. Fabulous putter.
@@grahamhosker3984 Yep, cheated on my #7 briefly in a moment of weakness with a Taylormade Rossa clone of the Anser...went back and wonder why I ever left.
@@CoolDesignNinja I send mine to the naughty step every now and then. Teach it some tough love.
I just had a thought for an interesting video. How much difference would it make to use only a half set of clubs? As I am getting older and play the game for pure enjoyment of playing golf shots, it’s something I am going to do this winter. Just an interesting idea Dan
Well let’s have a go Craig, give me an excuse to get that Sun Mountain Sunday bag out again 😉
Odyssey #7. That “fang” style has been copied by a LOT of manufacturers.
It was number 6
I still haven't found a putter I am completely comfortable with and so change quite regularly. No Bullseye?? surely every golfer above a certain age had one of those in the bag : )
And/or still do. Love them. With a fine sandpaper to flatten out the poorly made putting surface, it's a beast.
The Golden Goose has to be in there.
Scotty all day for me Dan.
Pretty sure the original Zebra body was grey coloured!
Yes it was 👍 but I’m sure the created a black one also 🤔
Love putter videos
Wheres the bullseye
YES putter
Faldos Wilson ❤ but its got to be a scotty , all day long
Yeah the TPA putter 👌
If only Scotties floated eh Kev lol
My drop dead number one putter is the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Select. I will never change putters, this thing makes me feel as if I can hole from anywhere, and that’s the confidence one needs to be a good putter. Cheers.
tried all mentioned ,and others ,but my scotty special select is staying
Dan, what with your new PXG link up, have you had your mitts on their Allan putter yet ??
Yeah, had a look at it this week, I understand why some will like it, but not for me
