I LOVE all this new Fern content, you’re really spoiling us lately! Thanks for everything and I hope you’re feeling better!
Ditto! You spoil us. Thank you! Feel better, Fern! ♥️
This made my morning - thank you so much for your kindness and support 🌹
@@Mikksterx thank you Michelle 🥺🖤
Also I agree about the daily plant vlog videos I enjoy these the most ❤
yayyy :) glad to hear!
yeah me too
I’ve been sick for a little while now, so all these great uploads have been such a blessing for me! Your videos are so relaxing and it always feels like I’m chilling with a friend❤️
I’ve been absolutely assaulted by pests this fall so, yeah but thanks Fern!! Love seeing you in chill mode-
Hey Fern 👋🌸💚. I'm sure you know this already 😂, but a Tip for Anthuriums that I hope will help ! Anthuriums are epiphytes ( grow on trees) this means that their roots favour more of an airy environment i.e they prefer more of an airy soil mixture- maybe try adding more perlite and bark to the soil? Love your videos, all of which have a tranquil vibe which I love for! 🌸💚
I didn’t realize they were Epiphytes , thanks I have all mine in moss and they are ok 👌
Yes, I was looking for someone to comment that. I feel like actually a lot of people don't know that most Anthuriums are epiphytes. But I think that's also because a lot of websites with plant content and tipps never mention it when they talk about Anthuriums.
@@Anni-Leni Agreed
This just made my day 100 times better
I found spider mites on my ficus, they really didn’t like being moved back inside. They were very easy to clean at least, thank goodness.
That sponge has seen some things 😂
I could relate as you apologized to the spider mites for having to exterminate them. You're adorable....a true flower child.✌
Once you started treating for spider mites, I had a bad feeling and checked some of my plants and lo and behold, they’ve just started their little infestation! 🙃 Now I know what I’m doing this afternoon, haha.
I always get so excited when a new video from you pops up
Thank you Chloë 🫶🥺💚
Loving all the content this week 😍 and plant chores videos are my fave!
As crazy as it sounds, Flarp noise putty is such an incredibly effective tool for getting in all the ribs and crotches of your leaves. It doesn't damage anything, its sticky, but pulls away easily, and everything is spotless afterwards.
Love all your plants 🌵 and cute little apartment ❤
Fern, try adding pumice or make your substrate even more chunky for the plant the keeps getting root rot. You’ll get it!! Thank you for the awesome plant content, I don’t know anyone in real life, that enjoys plants like I do, it’s nice listening to you talk about the topic.
New to keeping houseplants so this video was a great help in preparing me for the inevitable! So far no pests but got my first plant in July so very early days. Love the clear potting May too!
Fern I’ve learned so much from you! Even as you learn and trial and error some things I feel like I learn so much just from being a bystander in your life. What a pleasure you are, I hope days are treating you better in the truest places of your heart and mind. It’s hard to see someone struggle through a screen since it feels so far, but your bounce back feels like something to root for 🫶🏼 very proud of you and happy for you!
I just wanted to say I do the exact same thing w sponges: one for my dishes and one for plant related cleaning. I'm not alone! 😁
Thanks for all the content fern x
Hi Fern. Found thrips on some of my plants a few days ago. I ordered predatory mites on Amazon. They were deliver yesterday, so I spent the day spraying all my plants with water to hopefully get rid of a lot of them so the mites can do their job. Always love content form my favorite RUclipsr.
Yes we have spider mites here too!!
Yes, move the beautiful plant leafs and hand sun Catcher. I put hooks in the inside of the window Seal and hang mine that way .. Like behind the Curtains are blinds
Fern I'm just having the worst heartbreak and your plantie vlogs literally carry me through the evenings.
Sending light and healing energy your way! Please take care of yourself while you recover.
I’m so sorry to hear 🥺 it will get easier, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. Sending you big hugs xoxo
Spider mites have been the bane of my existence. It was so frustrating to learn that granular & liquid systemic does NOT work on spider mites. So thrilled to share that I have found a product that works on contact & systemically against a spectrum of pests including spider mites. It is called Rose Guard (made by bromide) - so reassuring to know there is something I can use not just to treat but also prevent spider mites
Yes move your awesome suncatcher plant decoration
Yay! Great video!!! ❤
🥰🥰🥰 I love your videos, they help me keep my mind off thinking too much!
So happy you have another video up. Sorry you're dealing with pests
Hi hi Fern!
Please feel better soon!
My lazy man method is taking plant to the bathroom hosing the leaves down front and back then assaulting with a spray mix of rubbing alcohol for a few days. Your plants are gorjus just like you! Please feel better soon!
I'm love these kinds of videos and how your space is looking now. Thank you!
yay, tea queen! ❤️
I love your rainbows.
I’ve had a couple big spiders come into my home 😖
Good luck getting through the rest of fall and winter!
Sending lots of love from Northern Nevada! 💚🪴
O my goodness thanku!! I literally just bought a frydek today (a dream plant) and I found spider mites!! Thanks fern😃😃😊
Great tips about treating mites! 👍
I had an outbreak of thrips and spider mites back in September. Hoping they are gone now but I'm checking plants almost daily. Hope you feel better. Thank you for the video.
I’m living for this content! I love these chill plant chore videos. I would really love to see that plant sun catcher moved in front of a window. It’s gorgeous!! Do you know where it’s from? Anyway, sending you lots of love and hoping you’re feeling well! 🪴🧡
hey fern! please consider putting some sort of barrier between the gloriosum and frydek pots and the couch. like plastic pot liners or something. i know the saucers are there but your couch can mold if it gets wet consistently!
Yayy, a new video from you is always super welcome ♡ had a shit day today, but this made it better
A while back I found thrips on my red veined maranta and I had to throw it out cause it was too far gone. It really sucked, cause it was getting really big. And I still find thrips on new plants now and then. Always makes me want to throw them all out, it grosses me out so bad. The bug struggle is real
Oh sorry to hear 🥺 glad it's improving 🖤
I got spider mites on my Ivory Coast alocasia a couple weeks ago, so you’re in good company. 😅💚
Yes move it into the window. But you can hang a hook into the window surround. The wooden part.
Spider mites are a pain, they sneak up on you.and before you notice you have a big problem. I'm struggling with thrips at the moment, the joys if being a plant parent. Your sun catcher would be lovely in the window 💚
I wanted to suggest Leca too if you’ve had a hard time with soil. Sometimes switching things up give a plant a boost. I did that with a couple of hoya that weren’t doing anything for over a year and the leca really made them take off!
I just got a baby plowmanii that came loaded with thrips, and then found spider mites on two different plants in two different rooms, and also two other plants with scale and mealybugs lol. Gonna be washing and cleaning and treating today.
noooo lol! the full meal deal 😵💫
I read the title and saw it said something about root rot and screamed out loud hoping it wasn’t the Thai Constellation! Enough is enough! Haha glad to see your well and thanks for the upload!
I struggle with anthurium too 😭 You’re an amazing plant mom, so don’t worry ❤️ anthurium and spider plants. They hate me haha. Love watching your plant chores!
Edit: something random. I’m an American that lives in Austria, Europe, and the hydrogen peroxide cot toes over here are soooo small. You can’t buy it in big amounts like you can in the states. And it’s a behind-the-counter product here. They look at me so weird when I buy it, and I have to tell them what I use it for-and then they just look at me weirder 😂
I add stability to my moss poles by sticking a skinny rod or a chopstick into the dirt behind the pole, and velcro them together 😅
If you’re struggling with anthurium, I’d recommend just leaving them in moss in a shallow cup and then take it out when it rooted and put the substrate you ultimately want to keep it in at the bottom of a deeper cup and then put the plant in the moss on top of it. So then the roots will grow down into the pon or the Leca or the aroid mix or whatever you’re going to use. Then eventually you can pick the moss off of the top and fill it in with whatever your substrate is. If you want to use soil, it’s got to be just about the chunkiest soil imaginable, aka most bark, perlite, charcoal, and whatever else you want to put in but almost no soil so that the water will run over the roots but not allow the plant to be waterlogged. Hope this helps. You know where to find me if you want more info!
Slaying on the content creation ✨️ 😍 👌
That spray bottle ASMR 😍
Found my first pests on my mostera deliciosa about a week ago after suspecting thrips for a while but never finding anything.. sure enough they were there. I live in a small place and its hard to isolate it from the rest of my plants, I've been doing my best to treat it every few days or when I find them again, but knock on wood I don't find them on anything else... I also found spidermites on a syngonium about two hours ago as well xD thankfully pretty early but you must be right about fall being the worst time with pests, hoping for the best. Look forward to watching your videos every week!
Thanks for sharing this Fern! We're in spring here down under but I found the most awful spider mite AND scale infestation on my bamboo palm last week. I mean seriously I don't know how it got so bad before I noticed, it was thick with scale and spider mites were literally everywhere on it. Also found mealybug on my precious stromanthe triostar and my calathea orbifolia. :(
Checked my plants for pests during the video and it looks likes we are going strong and don’t have any pest issues yet! I haven’t had a pest issue in a year or so and I’m waiting for an outbreak or something cause all the plant children are doing so well rn😅
I don‘ t have any experience with spider mites but I am so sorry to see and hear that
For the anthyrium I would try a much smaller cup maybe? I had to learn the hard way that a smaller vessel is sometimes better than a bigger one 😭
Yes, move it in front of the window on a longer chain
I do have some little spider mites in my cabinet right now 😢idk how it’s usually always 80% humidity but yes they’re there. I used safers twice now and did clean out the entire thing so praise God they’ll be gone. 😅
Ok so I’m at the sun atcher part and you should definitely try to see if the big one can hang above the window that would be so pretty
Your frydek is absolutely stunning. That’s one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. I’ve been eyeing them but Ive never had an alocasia so I’m nervous. 😂
Same here i just took a nap but im in my monthyly woman thingy wish i hate it get me soo tired i just want to sleep that the best nap ever
I find that Anthurium love PON
that was fun
definitely move the suncatcher :D
I permanently prevented spider mites on my Alocasia Frydek.
.
.
.
I sold it on eBay in late summer. It grew so large, but never loved it like a nice Philodendron.
Dang spider mites! Have not seen them BUT I had a thrips (I had no idea what they were). I saw my monsters and a couple of my other precious lants struggling, by the time I figured out what they were, took out 15 of my plants. A few are still struggling but omgoodness it's terrible 😅🤣🤣😭 I know now to check them more thorough
Call me weird but I spend more time admiring my plants more then anything so I always catch something in the beginning by luck and 3 days ago was the first time I noticed them and it was on an Alocasia lauterbaciana. I immediately thought about all the vlogs that I saw and dropped everything to get to work. Turns out that it was on my frydek and my dragon scale also but enough where I can see ever mite and smash with my fingers and then treat them all. Thankfully I am glued to my collection because I just don’t know how I would have took this! 😂 I love Alocasia’s so much they are my favorite so I am trying to build my collection bigger but this scares the hell out of me!😢
I just got done battling mealybugs on my hoyas. Now Im battling spider mites on my alocasias and calatheas. This is the first time that I've ever had spider mites. Little buggers!
I've been battling thrips and mealybugs for soooooo long. I'm just going ham with no sympathy or mercy at this point.
You should try moving the suncatcher and see how it works with the room :)
Love this video! Can we get a tattoo tour? I'd love to see your collection 🥰
Welp this put me on a kick to check for pests. Found mealies on my lemon lime philodendron. Lmao thanks for putting my mind to it.
I've found mealybugs on FIVE plants, and my large form monstera has thrips. Again! 🙃
OMG, I have a magnificum that is behaving the exact same way your Anthurium is! It’s rotted on me twice and lives in my Milsbo tall too. My others are doing great but that dude? He’s now a chonk nestled in sphag…again. 😂
Mealy bugs, that's my big issue. I finally got some Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew and doused my 2 worst Infested plants, so we'll see. I was thinking of PON for your poor root rot baby. Love your videos!
maybe lean the suncatcher against the window to see the effect? it looks big so the effect may be too much? thanks for linking, i did wonder abt the rainbows 🌱
I’ve been using a systemic pest control trio because I’m scared of fall pests. 😅
My house plans are all doing well. I recently found a couple of my dream plants that I’ve been looking for for a while a really good Cebu blue, pothos And a raven ZZ, which are very hard to come by in Canada
Had to pause and shower my alocasias :)
I tried to propagate my large Forgetii by chopping it into about 20 pieces lol , something I saw on RUclips- anyway they all died but the main stem is growing back so they are resilient tfs ❤️🕊
Oh and mine do well in moss jsyk
Super helpful video! Thank you; do you do a one-time spray or do you re-treat again?
Try the Suncatcer!
I’m wondering if your anthurium was in too big of a pot prior to removing the root rot...the plastic cup may also retain too much moisture for its emerging root system...fingers crossed, looking forward to seeing updates! Love your work xx
I'm looking for a longer planter like you have for your Gloriosum. Where'd you get it? Thanks!
Hey hey ❤❤❤❤❤
I feel you...spider mites everywherrrrre over here 🥴
I don't even bother with treating spider mites, on the first sign I just release cucumeris mites and it works for months. I'm completely fine with bugs so I don't care about the predatory mites in my living room/bedroom. The are so small and cute :) Nothing else really works for me long term and this spray, even though it's really effective for a time, stinks too much (I hate neem oil smell ). I really recommend predators if you're fine with them around you or have an enclosed space with outbreak.
I have thrips that have taken over! Had to treat alll my plants this weekend😢
🤞 no pests that I’ve noticed. YET!
Currently battling the mites too (not spider mites but the mites that Hoyas are prone too) 😭 unfortunately there isn’t a ton of info on this type of mite though! 🥺☠️
This video inspired me to check my own frydek ... which also has spider mites ;___;
Just found mealies on my Krimson Princess and pretty sure there’s scale on one of my Opuntia😢
Doesn’t it burns your hands? When I used safers end all it burns and it’s so strong! I get the premixed green bottle
Hey Fern Have you heard of putting cinnamon in the soil of your plants,it apparently stops pest from growing and hatching I have about 60 plants and they all got a treatment
Hi Fern, starting around 24:39, the plant you’re wondering why it grew a stunted leaf… is that your painted lady? I just got one. She’s about a foot or so tall (in a 4” pot) and the leaves are already massive 😮, so I’m wondering how big she’ll get plus their growth pattern. Is your babe full grown? And do they grow like a philodendron subhastatum and squamy?
When I was young, I used Superthrive. It has been around a long time. Then I owned a good size nursery/garden center and traveled often to get plants from huge commercial growers. Places growing millions of plants, and sparing no expense on chemicals, facilities or equipment. I never saw Superthrive sold in any of the commercial supply houses and never saw it in use in one of the nurseries. If it were anything like the promises on the packaging, every nursery would be using it and every commercial supply house would stock it for professional growers. It's not new, not secret. Arrange 20 plants in 4 rows of 5. Have a friend treat 2 rows and just water the other 2 rows while you are in another room. Apply time release fertilizer evenly (this is used by virtually all commercial growers). In a month, see if you can easily see the 2 rows that got Superthrive. If the light, water and soil are equal, and the plants are all similar, then you should be able to see if there's a benefit. I would not expect much. When you see all those outlandish claims on the packaging, you might be reminded of a politician this time of year. Promises, promises. gardenologist.org/another-day-another-couple-of-gardening-myths-to-bust/ Note: no proof of benefit from this product. So, really, the data are out there. Please don't promote this to your viewers.
I have a lot more success transitioning from perlite to pon than from perlite to soil. And a lot of people generally do better with anthurium in pon. Maybe that helps? Good luck!
I'd love to know how you have that many spidermites on so many leafs, but ZERO noticeable damage??? I'm also wondering how you've managed to keep your Micholitziana (Frydek) leafs from getting yellow around the edges????? My new leafs look great, but the older ones all have yellow on the edges. But I still have it in soil, and thinking hard about transferring it to leca.
Miss Fern, I have a question about rootless cuttings in perlite or pon. Should the water ,evel be higher than 1/3 of the pot if there are no roots at all, or will the moisture in there be enough to stop wilting? Thanx!
Spooky season is also Pest season! 😅 They are coming in full force from all sides! I found spider mites today on my big Clarinervium and baby Gloriosum. I never find the webing on the sinuses but can see the small dots that they create on the leaves.🥲 Also my balcony is attacked by thrips. They love the Alocasias and also Lipstick plants....I should treat them more seriously as you did on this video!
Would the anthurium benefit from those orchid pots that have holes around/ on the sides?
