I love the sound of french voice actor. Surprisingly I could actually play that game in french. I heard from French people that intonation is somewhere lost, and the way some of the characters talks can change feeling of the scene. I.e Child Ciri sounds rude in this scene when she answers Vesemir, while in every other version she sounds apologetic. Still the way their voices sounds to me, make French dubb number two after Polish.
I saw an interview of the geralt voice, he said it was complicated because geralt doesnt show a lot emotions. So when he is inspecting a body, he has to act with a super neutral tone of voice and in the contrary he has to show emotions to Triss and Yen even with this deep voice. A masterful work from his part ! And yes it’s true that the emotions in the voices change a lot to the scenes !
This is a good idea, but some words from the game are almost not used, they are obsolete or similar to Polish ones. Although these words are not so many
My opinion of dubs: - English - good, nothing else to say - 7.5/10 - German - big surprise; couldn't believe that this dub was made very well - 8.5/10 - French - harmonious and melodious, good Geralt voice acting - 9/10 - Japanese - ??? So... Huh... What was that about? Somebody knows? - 5/10 - Polish - one word: MASTERPIECE! - 10/10 - Russian - fantastic, I was truly surprised - 9.5/10 - Portuguese (BR) - not bad, but also not good. I am quite disappointed. - 6/10
My opinion is similar to yours, except for french, japanese and brasilian portuguese, i thought japanese were great, i gave a 7.8, french was a 5.5 and portuguese were 7.5, oh and polish is not that great, i gave an 8 not a 10/10
Anonim 110 I'm Polish and I think anyone giving Polish dub 10/10 is not honest. Yes, we know, it's a Polish game, and those are the first and original voice actors, woohoo. But I can't believe people don't hear Polish Geralt sounds bland and kinda wooden.
Gdy polski i rosyjski trzymały naprawdę dobry poziom (świetne odwzorowanie klimatu, część zadań pobocznych - z litości ominąłem m.in. rytuał odprawiania Dziadów w pozostałych językach), inne wersje zazwyczaj tłumaczone były w najlepszym wypadku dobrze. Niesprawiedliwy to byłby wtedy, gdyby napisał: "Polzgji Wjedźmin jezd sóper i daje mu 11/10 a wrzystkie inne som do dópy 0/10". Pozdrawiam
Agreed, even though I'm French I usually like playing games in English but this one is one of the very few I prefer the French version of frankly. I, too, thought they did a great job picking the voices, all of them match really well the characters and are also really well played by the voice actors.
Phobos University
@@MirkwoodCrow geralt is ok just doesn't seem to fit the character (especially know that I realized the connection to ezio) but I don't really like the german version as a whole vesemir is an absolute train wreck compared to english, french, russian and polish only japanese is equally bad but maybe that's just because witcher is clearly inspired by european culture
@@brohvakiindova4452 You do realize that German is also European? 😂 And that the witcher universe has a lot of germanic folklore? The voices are good, I only don't like Ciri's voice because she sounds like a child and she's 22 in the game. Vesemir also sounds great. Maybe you don't like it because you don't speak German. But I for example hate the English dub. Everyone says that it's always "the original" and "best" in video games but that's bullshit. Most English voice actors can't act for shit. Geralt sounds like a bad batman imitation. Horrible
@@MirkwoodCrow I was talking about why the japanese version sounded also bad to me... I am in fact german and I think vesemir sounds far too young and generally bland, I agree the english geralt is a bit over the top gritty with that batman voice but the german sounds too ordinary to me for ezio it was fitting but geralt should sound a little more gritty like polish, russian or even french I like the english version better because all the generic voice actors have a lot more character and use nuanced dialects etc. while in german it's all plain "hochdeutsch" it feels just I don't know sterile at times... also I don't like some of the german translations like rittersporn for dandelion
Рей Валентаин yes, thank you, I was able to understand that, because _Dziadziuszka_ ( Дядушка) sounds like _dziadziuś_ in Polish which means more less 'grandpa' (but in more cute way). Nonetheless it sounds funny to my ears :)
she also said "Ya uzhasnen'ko vinovata". Ужасно (uzhasno) - means terribly, but ужасненько(uzhasnen'ko) - cute version of terribly which sounds childish, as it must be. In english it's just "very sorry".
Maybe because "dziaduszko" in Polish sounds like "little, funny grandfather" and not "uncle". Our languages similar and that's all. I read that Polish dubbing is funny to Slovaks as well.
@@sipdermun That's not lip sync, what you saying is just length of the sound files differ with languages, while they all are supposed to play specific time,so game compensates by speeding it up.Lip sync is movement of lips myself.
Other than that, I think French and German is the best here. Idk how they programmed it, but Russian and Polish doesn't seem fit to the animation at all.
the animation of the characters doesn't suit it(character expression, gestures and eyes and mouth movement)--it suits well with english/polish/german--that's why it sounds to weird in other language
I love the german version of Geralt. His voice fits the character. His voice just sounds like that from a person, who can also enjoy the finer things in life after working his ass off contract after contract for decades.
I think polish dub is better, because Witcher is a polish game and it was easier to find some old-polish words which can't be translate to another language. Of course it makes this dub more beliveable but I'm from Poland and when I play this game, I hear words and sentences which polish people aren't using now. PS. If I made some mistakes in those sentences..........really sorry :"-D
Reason Russian and Polish are so fitting is because the setting of witcher is basically set in 1260 Novgorod Republic(Russia)/Poland and people in it represent Slavic people. Novigrad most likely had inspiration from Russian capital city Novgorod. A lot of names of people in the game are definetely slavic. And just the nature/buildings etc in the game inspired by slavic culture.
I'm half Polish and I played the first Witcher in English, didn't really get much out of the game, liked the story etc. On my second playthrough I tried out Polish and my world was rocked! The characters immediately got more depth, they sounded human and became human, the voices fit the faces of the characters in a way that was lacking from the English version. For example Geralt, the English voice is a brute, talks to everyone in the same manner, very hard to get anything out of him, whereas the Polish voice actor perfectly conveys his emotions with his voice, he has a gentle father-figure voice when talking to Ciri, an "I couldn't care less" voice when talking to random people, and an actually angry voice when he's about to beat up some peasants in a brawl. Needless to say I played through the second and the third game in Polish and couldn't even imagine playing it in any other language. I wish everyone would try out Polish with English subtitles, even though the subtitles aren't really perfectly translated, I have a blast listening to the random shit people say on the streets, and the carefully interwoven jokes that only people who speak Polish understand. Maybe that's the problem, you'd need to understand Polish to get the most out of the game..
My thoughts exactly! I hate Geralt's English voice, because it's just like you said - in every scene I watch in English dub, Geralt's voice actor delivers every line pretty much the same way, which makes him quite a dull character. Meanwhile Polish Geralt is often sarcastic, snarky and sometimes even violent and you can actually hear those emotions in his voice. Honestly, English Geralt and Polish Geralt are two different characters to me.
@@FriendwithNoName7 have you slept through the whole gameplay? Geralt does have emotions! If he didn't, he wouldn't have spare the monsters' and humans' lives, even when someone asks him to. He wouldn't have help people for free, but it happends many times in a game. He's not very emotional, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have emotions.
I guess Polish version has most of this magic Witcher climate. It also has a great deal of hidden flavours and references to literature and history. However, Russian and French sounds also cool.
Gerald : Polish = sounds Like a... Gerald... , English = IM BATMAN!!! , Russia = IVAN , Japaneese = Typical Anime guy , German = Typical WW II Hans from SS. Moja personalna opinia... /My Personal Opinion...

In my opinion, Polish - 1st place (it’s obviously, just perfect) French - 2nd Russian - 3rd. Yet it was hard to decide is it Russian or French that should be on the second place.
Nah Polish isn’t perfect. Vesemir and Ciri are pretty good, but Geralt doesn’t sound like he’s described in the books, which is kinda a big deal since we’re spending most of our time with him. English captures that better overall probably
@@DavidHosey1 Geralt isn't described in books to sound like he has throat cancer like in English version. Geralt's voice is described as umpleasant - and in Polosh version Geralt when gets angry speaks in rough voice
@@PolishGod1234 if this is what throat cancer sounds like to you then you must think a ton of people have throat cancer lmao. He sounds very normal, just rough and less emotional (just like his voice is generally described). The closest to a "throat cancer" dramatization you can find in bigger game stories would be the Snakes from MGS, who are way gruffer than Geralt's voice and even they're usually good and normal for most of their character's voices
Nikola Sajnóg No it doesn't sound like emotional. Sorry don't offense. I have a lot of Polish friends around me, but it is very...hard language. I mean, i can't feel the emotions because Polish is very fast and hard.
English Geralt sounds so emotionless and monotone.I know that witchers are deprived of emotions, but not that much. Polish and Russian voices are the best.Especially Russian Geralt. The voice fits his appearance so FUCKING good
They fucking NAILED the lip syncing for all languages, that's the most impressive part And oh my god the little girl's french voice actor sounds adorable
Yup. It seems the French were the only ones who used a real little girl and maybe Poland. The Brazilian version is the worst because she doesn't sound like a little girl at all. She sounds just like a grown woman. It's seems like they didn't even try.
I always play games in original languages. If game's original language is english (like Battlefilds) i play with english dubbing, If original is in russian (like Metro) i play with russian. This game is polish, so polish dubbing is the best option to this game. PS: Russian is second option to me then English and French, then German, but the Japanese dubbing is wierd, i couldn't play this game with japanese dubbing
yeah pretty much same order for me as a german myself I really dislike the german dub especially vesemir is aweful and japanese would kill the immersion completely
That's such a shame, cause we do have very some good quality dubbing here in Brazil. Idk what were they thinking when they chose that one to voice Yen...
Let's not forget Mortal Kombat. On a second thought... I would play MK for the weird funny dub by Pitty... in this case though, its just not funny at all.
I like how the voices aren't just dubbed over; the characters' mouths move correctly to the language they're speaking. Not sure if that's done in other games, but I think that's awesome.
I like Geralt but the rest of the cast doesn't sound good and there are some weird intonations. I did really dislike this dub, although I really liked the dub of the Witcher 2.
+MrAndre They sound really off indeed and a bit like they took the first recording. Some voices just don't fit, like the little girl sounds too much like a woman trying to sound cute and adult Ciri, who I would expect to have some strong voice, sounds like some random maiden.
Only "some"? Well, to each their own. I still think it's very good most of the time, at least for most of the major characters. Vesemir is kinda meh, and the less important characters are a mixed bag. There's some gold, but also some pretty cringeworthy stuff. But the main reason why I chose German over English is that it seems to fit the setting a lot better (in my opinion). English sometimes sounds almost out of place, especially with the names of some of the characters, monsters or locations. And then there's the abominable English pronunciation for some of the names ("Nouwigwad" for example). I really should give the Russian version a go. The voice actors sound pretty decent too.
I think I'm starting it with the german voices, maybe because I listen a lot to folk music I think it fits perfectly Also the french actors did an incredible job
Polish version sounds like the best one to me, which is not surprising because this is a Polish game and all dialogue/story was written in Polish first then translated. As a person who has read the books and played all three games, to me Polish sounds like the only language this game could be played in (though I have also completed W2 once in English to compare). Russian version is second best because, as a fellow Slavic language, it feels similar to Polish and thus creates an atmosphere that is close to what Sapkowski had in mind. However, I doubt I could ever get used to Geralt in Russian (Кузнецов is not a bad actor, but actually sounds way too gruff for Geralt). Ciri and Yennefer sound good though. The English dubbing is professional and well-made like the Polish and Russian ones, but it just doesn't work. It feels like a completely different world. Not to mention that much of the unique Slavic elements (names of places, monsters, characters, drinks - plus sayings and references) are completely lost. Geralt in English is not that bad, but he is too emotionless and sounds very stereotypical. Doesn't remind me of Geralt from the books at all, unlike the Polish dub. Of all the other versions, I think I like French the most and probably on par with English. Like English, it doesn't feel like Wiedźmin, but Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri and Vesemir in French actually remind me of their original versions a bit. They also sound quite natural. Brazilian Portuguese felt very mixed. For some reason, I found the German version really amusing and stiff. Last but not least, the Japanese dub sounded like it didn't fit at all. I guess it makes sense since it is the only one of these languages that isn't Indo-European.
People tends to praise the original too much. The Polish dub is good, but not a "masterpiece". And the same people tends to underrate the English dub because of the invert reason. You want a great voice acting? The drunken witchers scene in english! Its fucking amazing. I'm brazilian, the dub in my language is pretty decent, but the English one will be always better in my opinion.
It is no surprise that the Polish sounds by far the best and the most natural. A lot of people say that Geralt is Cliche, but I think that is his Clint Eastwood like English voice is responsible, the polish is by far the nicest.

My opinion of dubs:
- English - good, nothing else to say - 7.5/10
- German - big surprise; couldn't believe that this dub was made very well - 8.5/10
- French - harmonious and melodious, good Geralt voice acting - 9/10
- Japanese - ??? So... Huh... What was that about? Somebody knows? - 5/10
- Polish - one word: MASTERPIECE! - 10/10
- Russian - fantastic, I was truly surprised - 9.5/10
- Portuguese (BR) - not bad, but also not good.

Gdy polski i rosyjski trzymały naprawdę dobry poziom (świetne odwzorowanie klimatu, część zadań pobocznych - z litości ominąłem m.in. rytuał odprawiania Dziadów w pozostałych językach), inne wersje zazwyczaj tłumaczone były w najlepszym wypadku dobrze. Niesprawiedliwy to byłby wtedy, gdyby napisał: "Polzgji Wjedźmin jezd sóper i daje mu 11/10 a wrzystkie inne som do dópy 0/10".
Pozdrawiam

Reason Russian and Polish are so fitting is because the setting of witcher is basically set in 1260 Novgorod Republic(Russia)/Poland and people in it represent Slavic people.

+MrAndre Yen sounds like a damn godess in german!

Also the french actors did an incredible job
Actually Iwinski said in an interview that this time around they wrote the game in parallel in Polish and in English.
+Rafael Teles Well, Polish dubbing gets so much praise, because most comments were made by people from Poland.
+Rafael Teles ne?
The voice acting is so universally well done. Favorite still has is the Polish. Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri were perfectly cast.
It is no surprise that the Polish sounds by far the best and the most natural. A lot of people say that Geralt is Cliche, but I think that is his Clint Eastwood like English voice is responsible, the polish is by far the nicest.
