    Thank You for sharing the effort it takes to do things right.
    I have 35 years experience with one nearly identical.
    The accuracy & precision, these machines make possible, is hard to beat…

    Having a Weiler lathe myself, I can easily notice the passion and the attention to details that went into what you did there.
    Congrats, happy to see that I’m not the only one obsessed about all the small details related to my lathe.

    Hey Carrie, just saw your video on this lathe. 5 star work, its brand new! I have an 1967 HLVH and I wanted to know if there was some way to reach out to you for some questions about how you got all these parts restored and some of the parts you purchased such as the accurite DRO. If you happen to have the time that is. Whoever bought it is extremely lucky!

    Something is odd; the cross-slide and carriage aren’t dual-dial.

    • @ViciousRC
      @ViciousRC Год назад +1

      The ones that came with the DRO did not have the dual dial for the cross slide and carriage because they would be repetitive.

    • @lmsaltest

      @@ViciousRC thanks! That makes sense!
      I actually don’t like those indicator sleeves that slide back and forth. They get stuck.
      I have a DRO on mine, but I don’t know if it was original or not.

      One of this quality you will be in the $30k+ range. A good mechanical condition EM, but poor cosmetics will probably be $18k+, but you will still most likely find things that need fixing. A questionable unit is what you can find it for. These are VERY expensive to restore and take a LOT of time and space, so depending on your budget and time, I would buy the best you can find...unless you like projects!

    Was the spindle checked for runout and wear? How was the tailstock alignment?

    • @CaryChristieII
      @CaryChristieII  2 года назад

      Yes. It has a little wear as to be expected but it runs smooth and cuts runs great, this lathe was taken care of by the previous owner. The tailstock alignment was spot on.

    Beautiful job!
    Did you rescrape the gibbs? Did you have the change the spindle bearing? How about the clutches in the apron, did you clean that out too? Any gears which had to be changed to improve the backlash? Was the leadscrew worn?

    • @CaryChristieII
      @CaryChristieII  Год назад

      Thank you!
      The person who I bought it off of was part of the way through restoring the lathe. He had already scraped the bed, tailstock, gibbs etc. The spindle bearing was solid with no noise or play that I could tell, I think he replaced that as well, it looked new upon inspection. I did rebuild the clutches in the apron. All of the gearboxes, including the apron were disassembled, checked and cleaned.
      The backlash was minimal and the gears did not show wear. I do not think the machine had a lot of use, even the original paint was not heavily worn.
      I got lucky and found a machine that was excellent to begin with, then took the time to take it apart and perfect it.

      Nice looking lathe but…. The bed is a hardened tool steel bed. Your not scraping these. These need to ground. The saddle was turcited from the factory. I have the same lathe but mine isn’t this clean. I love my EM.!!!!

    The paint does not have much gloss and there is a lot of orange peel. Not up to the quality of the OEM paint finish unfortunately.
