I am brand new to Portuguese however I already speak fluent Spanish and I was reading your subtitles and I saw that word "Bobo" when you were describing "Pipoca"... I had to laugh :)). I remember when I learned Spanish I thought to myself, that word really does sound silly" BOBO" , ironically it sounds really "bobo" ... So it's perfect to be added to your list!! jejejeje ...

Currently, I reckon my favourite word in Brazilian Portuguese is actually the name of a town: Ubatuba. Maybe it sounds perfectly ordinary to the Brazilian ear, but to mine (which is English) it sounds quite bizarre. I want to live there!

MacGyver is just a character from a 80s tv show that would use improvised common items like a paper clip or duct tape to get out of danger as an agent or spy. So it’s used more as a funny reference or slang rather than something most Americans say regularly.
So going to give back a little if I can! I've noticed no matter how fluent someone is in English nearly everyone says pronOunciation with the OW sound like pronounce, when it is proNUNciation. If you get that right you get your gringo wings. I love the word gambiarra. In English I think the closest is "Jerry-Rig" or "Jury -rig" depending on what you grew up saying. (Americans also have a horrendously racist alternative using the n-word instead of "jerry" that doesn't seem to exist in the UK). My favorite words are amarelo and crocodilo. I just love saying them. Especially the end of amarelo.

However, as a native French speaker, i'm still caught off-guard by the differences in pronounciation from different syllables. Things like the ending "djey" in "saudade" or "verdade" doesn't exist in French. Another example, the softer "L" that tends to happen an the end of a word (like in "Brasil" or "gentil"), or the different ways an X can be proununced (there's only one in French, the hard "kss" or "gss" sound). Anyway, enough rambling from me. I know I told you that specifically, but I LOOOVE the dual subtitles. Tchau!
I am English but I live in France. I found out about MacGyver from my French colleagues, you're right I never knew about it before. also I speak toki pona where racoon is kijetesantakalu. that's a long word but it's still cuter than racoon.. 😂

By the way, as a Russian native speaker, I’ve noticed that Portuguese has more similar words with Slavic languages than English does, in other words, Russian lexicon/vocabulary is a bit closer to Latin than to, let’s say, “Scandinavian” although we have a lot of words borrowed from German, especially technical terms. The same can be said bout pronunciation. It didn't take me much effort to start speaking Portuguese compared to how I had studied English at school (was tough) Personally, I can highlight words like “bebida”, “barriga”, “dedo”, “garganta”, “neblina”, “rapaz”, “xícara” and “tartaruga”, they sound funny to my Russian ears🙃

Hey! Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! However the idea behind creating this channel was to both teach Portuguese to the world and help Brazilians learn English. It is also how my mind works most of the time; switching back and forth between English and Portuguese. Some videos are going to be in English, others in Portuguese but most of them are going to be a mix! 😊
The dictionary gives "workaround" or "kludge" for "gambiarra", but the way you described it sounds more like "jerry rigged" (improvised)

I like the pronunciation of the word 'pronunciation'. Many people pronounce it as 'pronOUnciation' which is, of course, wrong.
