😮, what a lovely moment🙏. Every morning I sit with my first cup of coffee....and watch one of your video. I am always so amaze by the way your brush so softly touch the paper. Yet you seem to have a firm grip of your brush.....but still you manage to caress the paper😊. Thank you once again for cheering with us your technique, tips, suggestion of alternative colors.....which I really appreciate💫
Thank you so much Jacinthe, so pleased that you like this tutorial! It was a true delight to paint! Really glad that you feel cheered up by the techniques etc... and colour suggestions! Happy painting :)
Thoughts I had while watching this... I need masking fluid in my life immediately, where is the nearest plastic card I can cut up, adding a lighter blue in front of the rocks and darker behind...simple but genius! When you added that grey shadow to the wave, my chest ached it was so simply beautiful. I may be gushing, but Lord it is deserved. You make me want to stop what I am doing and go paint.
Thank you so much Ashley for your amazing comment! So pleased that you like this tutorial and that it has inspired you to paint! I was really pleased how the shadow turned out on the wave! Simple but effective! That's how I like to paint! :)
I love your comments too! Masking fluid works so well and Karen uses it to its fullest effect here. Ps try not to cut up your credit card 🤣 or maybe do!! Win win!
I really like your paintings and painting style - I like to use soft materials like brush, and hard like a card. Its very interesting and Im excited just buy watching to try this. thank you.
Thank you, I enjoyed watching this tutorial learning this technique and also enjoy your choice of music, you are very talented and generous to pass on your knowledge to us.
Hi Karen I've just painted this seascape from your tutorial (I'm a beginner) it has turned out really well. Thank you very much. I've learnt such a lot watching your tutorials.
This is a stunning painting but the video with the peaceful music made it mesmerizing to watch! What an awesome combination to start my day. You have a wonderful gift and it is a blessing that you share not only the paintings but your knowledge with others. May God bless you abundantly for your willingness to share your talent with the world.
This is one of those rare times when I have every single item you are using in this tutorial! Thanks for making videos and sharing your process. M. Graham mineral violet and turquoise is one of my favorite mixes! I love the dusky blue it makes.
Pintura feliz :)
That's so fantastic, Karen! I'm going to try this one tomorrow! Thank you very much for your lovely, relaxing tutorials - I could watch them all day long... 🎨🖌️

Wooooooowwwww!!!! Pero que bonito, absolutamente precioso. Estaba deseando un tutorial sobre el mar y las olas...mil gracias a ti. Thank you so much. 🤩🥰💐
Your pictures and tutorials are so inspirational - I keep coming back to getting the paints out again and again (I tend to put them away after a few mediocre tries.... :-(. ) Thank you, Karen!
Thanks for the great video! Wondering how u like the making tape u use? I’ve never seen it. I use 3M. Blue but it doesn’t seem to stick well anymore. It releases from the paper
Thank you Jessica...sorry you are having trouble using masking fluid. Check out this video I made on the subject, it may help: ruclips.net/video/p44udLKnQ6w/видео.html.
You can buy the masking fluid from Amazon. Here is a tutorial I published all about using masking fluid:ruclips.net/video/p44udLKnQ6w/видео.htmlsi=stiPUP9AZ1CZ-2M7
Karen, can I ask you a bit of a stupid question. When you list the paper size in your 'show more' section, is that the paper size of the finished painting or the size you begin with before you add the framing tape because I find that adding the tape sometimes makes the size I have to work with very small and I'm just wondering if I am getting it wrong? Thanks Karen.
Hi Dearbhla, not a stupid question at all. My tape is 2.5cm (approx an inch) wide, so it reduces the overall size by 2.5cms around the edge depending on the size you are working on. So if I am working on 9 x 12, it will be reduced to 7 x 10 inches approx. I take this into account when I'm painting, so I'm not worried about the painting getting smaller as I have accounted for this at the start, if that makes sense :)
How dry does this need to be before taking the tape off? Overnight dry. It’s taking some of the splashing waves off. Or is it over night dry before putting the making tape over the masking fluid? 😂
Yes of course you can transfer to the Patreon membership. Just to let you know that the youtube channel membership has not changed and the perks are still the same? However I started Patreon because many of my members could not see the members videos on their tablets/ipads. The Patreon videos are exactly the same as the RUclips membership videos. However the Patreon platform does allow me to upload documents. Patreon is slightly more expensive than the youtube channel membership and because of this I have made the videos ad free. If you still wish to cancel your youtube channel membership, just go to the little circle with your logo in the top right hand corner of your computer screen when you are signed into youtube. Click that, then click paid memberships, then click manage memberships. Hope this was helpful :)
It just occurred to me...You may not have watched the membership video for this tutorial? It's 24 minutes long with voiceover. Just go to my homepage, click playlists and go to the members videos. Hope this helps :)
@@KarenRiceArt No. I haven't watched this new video yet. I have canceled this channel's subscription because I would like to watch your videos on my ipad, so I can paint with you. I still can watch all the videos on this channel for another 30 days. Will join Patreon in September. Thank you.
@@KarenRiceArt I am very disappointed that I can no longer receive any emails from RUclips of your new postings nor able to access your members only channel. I was told by the RUclips Team that I would "retain access to members' only perks until August 29. " If this is not the case, then I would appreciate a refund of the membership fee for this period.

Hey Karen i really enjoy your videos and my question for you is what would be a good substitute for Prussian blue?
Thanks James... Phthalo Blue or Turquoise are good substitutes for Prussian Blue :)
Gorgeous 😍

Thanks for your question Deborah, I use framing tape, it sticks quite well and is kind to watercolour paper :)
This is beautiful, I have been working on waves but am having a lot of trouble with the masking fluid ripping my paper unfortunately

Thank you for a great tutorial for a beginner to intermediate painter. Do you have a favorite brush or paint?
Thank you so much Cheryl! I love the Black Velvet Brushes and Daniel Smith, QOR, M Graham and Winsor & Newton watercolours :)

Do you dry the paper after the masking fluid is applied?
I allow the masking fluid to dry naturally
@@KarenRiceArt so hours or overnight? This is my first time and it peeled my wave off! Could I still add more fluid in this area?
Which tape did you use for the edges please? I liked the simplicity of this but the finished painting is realistic.
Thank you! I used framing tape 😊

@@KarenRiceArt Thank you Karen. Your answer makes perfect sense. That is exactly what I wanted to know.
Was I suppose to wait for my masking fluid to dry overnight before taping the horizon?😮
It is a good idea to allow the masking fluid to dry thoroughly, does not have to be overnight.
I was looking for the canson 300 lb cold pressed paper and was unable?
I used 300gsm
👏❤️🙏
Can this be done using acrylics?
Absolutely! Great idea! :)
How dry does this need to be before taking the tape off? Overnight dry. It’s taking some of the splashing waves off. Or is it over night dry before putting the making tape over the masking fluid? 😂
