    Install the flare temporarily, put painters tape around perimeter (leave 1/4" extra. Take flare off and install a strip of Paint Protector Film (PPF) on the body up against the tape. This way when you re-install the flare, the rubber gasket sits against the PPF, which will protect your paint from the flare gasket.

    Use that clear plastic tape style protective film. It's cheap and u can see thru it for rust. It will. Protect from most chips. Easy to peel off and replenish bro.Its not bulleit proof but it's better than nothing..

    I put these same flairs on mine using VHT tape. I like the look but thinking I may remove them so fenders won't rust out as easy after awhile. They were a pain to install with the tape and didn't fit fully.

    If you put flares on the truck, do you actually ever plan to take them off? Im sure to most people they never plan to take them off so they don't really care about the paint underneath the flares.

    Did you just slap them on without any prep work, if you don't clean any dirt, salt or grim off before instalatuion you're asking for rust.

    I think some rubberized undercoating would do a great job. Scuff the area with red Scotch Brite. Clean it with acetone, mask whatever you don't want coated. That should hold up pretty good.

    I'm in Ontario and my wells are already rusting...so scratching the paint is not to important... Maybe a bead of caulk around the top edge would keep the dust and little rocks out the gap?? This 2012 is quickly getting into beater territory lol

    Thinking of installing these on my Ram, i'm going to use black silicone around the flares to try and prevent this. I don't think its caused by rubbing

    Here is the thing about fender flares, they will still get dirt and grime under them, but you have to take the time to remove them every few months and clean and wax under them.

    You suppose to put the rubber gasket between the body and fender flare. Bushwacker supplies it with their kit

    • @jousepsadurni4906

      Bushwhacker is a better aftermarket company. He prob bought cheap foreign part

      Dirt still gets on the rubber gasket and causes damage to the paint

    Back in the day.i had a f 150, an I was going to have the inside of the back of my truck sprayed with this black rubber I'm not sure what it's called, I know they still do it, but I think if you truck owners spray the inside of the wheel wells with this stuff it will stop everything from rusting. As we all know all makes an models of trucks them rear fenders seem to always rust up first. Good luck

      @BigHRepair Год назад

      Years ago I used that rubber stuff. Total garbage. Over time it will dry and crack and will hold moisture underneath and rust even quicker. Fluid film is the way to go

    If you go with the flares. Id put a thin coat of some kind of silicone sealant. I like using permatex gasket maker. That thing does wonders. Have your gloves on and rags ready to clean up around the area and leave sealant only where you want it. It gets a bit messy. Difficult to get it off your hands if you don't use gloves.

      lol I was hoping the 3M tape would do its job and protect the paint. But, obviously not..

    Fender flares 100% scratch paint. I put flares on my truck last week and didn't do my homework until after I put them on. I heard so many bad things about flares. So I took them off JUST 2 days later and ALREADY had scratches all over my paint. The flares are a quality set too with nice weather strip on the edge. Very disappointed I would not recommend flares unless they come factory on your truck or you find a garage to do it and they will guarantee their work if any scratches appeared. Maybe you could try putting clear tape on your paint before install that might help with scratches?

    Get bed linner sprayed on the rockers an outer wheel arch area looks better an last longer use a reputable company

    • @GettysGarage

      that's what I'm probably leaning towards.

    • @Sugarkryptonite
      @Sugarkryptonite 4 года назад +1

      That doesn't do anything...body panels rust from the inside out. That's just like putting lipstick on an eventual pig. This is exactly why they do rust proofing sprays like Krown or others inside the panels themselves. Bed liner is good for rock chips, but that's about it.

    • @GettysGarage
      @GettysGarage  4 года назад

      @@Sugarkryptonite I get my trucks sprayed at Krown once a year. I think it will make a big difference

    Fluid film the underbody to prevent and chance of rust

      1 or 2 cans of 3M undercoating rubberized Pro, make a nice molding with painters tape and spray it, leave like that or put the fender flares on top after dry.

    first issue: you’re Canadian. Let’s move on. #2) they’re ALL aftermarket- only one is factory installed. C= why are you preserving a ‘Dodge’… I’m sure it’s about to blow its motor anytime anyway. Here’s where’s where ya went wrong : common sense tells you to protect the paint from any ‘edges’.

    When doing some for the first time, it’s the persons fault not the product. Your failure was your research. The irony here is you made a video for others to see. This is a directive you should have been looking up BEFORE YOU put them on. Any fabrication to metal on a vehicle needs to be addressed. With or without fender flares Dodge fenders are gonna rust. The engineer who designed them actually leaves pockets of glue hidden under the paint and primer. Have to wonder if the rust product industry floats Dodge money to make an inferior product so they can make millions?! I own my 2nd RAM and the 2nd is exactly like the first 20 years later..no structure improvements. Same design
