    Some fine looking fjallraven gear there brother. Looks like you have everything covered. How much camera equipment are you taking? That can easier add a couple of extra kilos. Take some good footage as i wont be there so will have to experience it through your eyes 👍

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +1

      I sure will! I will bring my main camera plus batteries, it’s the Panasonic gh5 and then my iPhone as well.. that’s about it, my plan is to carry the camera in my hand for most of the trip, but yeah, it will definitely add some weight!

    Nice video Ted..I was there last year..I came all the way up from Greece for the classic 2018 which had the worst weather by the time from previous classics..And as I saw,I think that the move with the bag is a little bit light sleeping bag for the trek..be safe and enjoy all the way to Abisko..

    Great gear, looks heavy but over the distance and time you have you should be fine. Just take it at your own pace and stop and enjoy what’s around you, it is spectacular. Have a great trek.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks brother, the weight was fine, added a drone just before we went but it was still ok, regular breaks and good feet care helped out, I would love to go solo and lighter, just you and the wild.

    I'm anxiously looking forward to experiencing this trek this year. Your videos were all the help since I started to think of all the needed gear. Hope my backpack won't be heavier than 12-13kg max. I've decided not to bring my Abisko Lite 2 tent, since it eventually ended up being a little too small for me and my wife, and I'll have Zpacks Triplex, thinner, but way lighter. Fjallraven bags on the other hand are a real game changer :) See you on the trail, Ted!

      You’ll do fine brother! Make sure that you do some mini adventures with your wife around where you live, it’s a great way to practice!

      @@TedWeirum tbh we did couple of treks to check the gear out and how we handle in general. It was great. The biggest win were the backpacks, my Singi 48 and wife's Abisko Friluft made the whole adventure very comfortable and they did absorb all the stuff without compromises. Once again - big thanks and all the best for you!

    Hi Ted, pulled the trigger on the Keb Eco shell after watching your review. Are you bring that ? What about the Keb jacket? Should I bring that too? All the best

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +1

      I’m definitely bringing the Keb eco shell, I’m going with just that one, no other jacket! If I where you I wouldn’t bring the Keb too if you have the eco shell, see you there maybe?

    Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on long distance hikes, and seeing your gear!
    What do you do for food/energy on a long distance hike to keep the weight down? Also haven't found any good breakfast food yet, any tips? Thank you bunches, you're awesome!

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks you so much brother! The easy answer to your question is I EAT IT ALL! :) for long distances it’s freezedried for me if I’m in a place where I can’t get resupplied. For breakfast I usually prepared it myself at home, I do a lot of oats, it has great energy and it’s easy to pack in and squeeze into small places in your pack. I blend it with nuts and berries for taste and vitamins. Hope that helps, thanks for your comment!

    Thanks for your interesting insight, Ted. I am really curious how you bring all this into your 52 keb :). How do you actually feel about trekking poles?

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +2

      That’s what I’m talking about the Keb 52 is huge!! The tent will of course go in between the top lid and main bag, other than that it’s all good! I’m for trekking poles I love my walking stick, multi use item all the way. I tend not to use them however unless really needed. What’s your take on trekking poles?

    • @OneTwoThreeTheP
      @OneTwoThreeTheP 5 лет назад

      @@TedWeirum Ahh....right, you carry the tent this way. I'm a fan of "having everything inside".....of course depending on the duartion of the trip you have to make compromises. Some extra straps on the bottom of the pack would be nice:).
      I love trekking poles! I like it when the whole body has to work and at the same time I can reduce the pressure on the joints. Downhill hiking with a 15-20kg rucksack is a pain in the ass :D. They are also useful for hanging up clothes at the camp (as you said --> multi use)

    • @donaldpang

      Trekking poles saved my butt in last year’s Classic Hong Kong.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +1

      Outdoor is Living I can imagine that. When I walked this distance the first time I dint have poles and I did ok, I think, or hope, I’ll be fine this time too.. my case is also that I have to carry the camera.. :) I’m all about the show ;)

    Hi Ted,
    Again I love you videos. I have a few question below and would love to hear your thoughts:
    1) How do you compare your Hilleberg Staika to the FJ tents. Do you think they are comparable quality?
    2) What FJ pack do you like that is around 40L? Used for a 3-5 day hike or even hiking the full Kungsladen?
    3) How do you like/compare the Keb 52 to the Kajka?
    last one.. LOL
    4) Vidda Pro or Web Trousers? Which do you like better for Kundsladen or Northern Finland adventures?
    Thanks!!! Love your channel..

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад

      Hey! Thank you so much!
      My answers:
      1) Hilleberg make some of the best tents in the world, this is what they’re focused on and I think you can tell that from the quality of the tents. When it comes to hiking it’s all down to what you’re gong to do, where, how long and weather. For this adventure for example I’m glad we went with the Keb endurance instead of the staika. Keb endurance offers more space and a bigger vestibule. With that said I’d rather go with a similar model from Hilleberg, the quality and attention to detail is what sets them apart. Then again this is a fjällräven event and I wanted to try the Keb endurance :).
      2) at the moment the Keb 52 is my go to bag that probably answers the next question too. But a bag around 40 L i’d have a look at the Fjällräven Friluft bag, really nice bag with lots of great features!
      3) Kajka is an amazing bag, I had the 85L and it turned out to be too big for most of the adventure I where doing. The Keb 52 is just precisely right, it fit my type of adventures and somehow there’s always a little bit of extra space over if I need it! But who knows, we’ll see what happen in the future. It’s all still down to what, where, when and for how long, I don’t think there’s one bag for all adventures, that wouldn’t work out!
      4) this is a though one, it depends when you’re going, if you’re going in the summer I think you’d be too warm walking with the vidda Pro, for me they’re more for being still and working on stuff in and around camp, I’d have a look at something that’s more made for movement, the Keb trousers for example. If you watch my latest video you see that we were on Kungsleden in the abisko trekking tights, best choice ever!
      Thanks for watching!

    I have the same Exped pillow!! I like to have it outside of my sleeping bag, directly on the mat, so I use some of those Sea to Summit straps to secure it to the mat so it doesn’t move...

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I saw that, does it work good? What happens when you take it on and of all the time?

    • @IgnacioGlezCllo
      @IgnacioGlezCllo 5 лет назад +1

      Ted Weirum no issues, just be a bit careful when threading through the tabs on the pillow and you’re good! The metal hardware on the STS strap is smooth as well so there’s no risk of damaging the sleeping mat either.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  5 лет назад

      I’ll might just give it a try.. I’ll do it after this trip though, I’ve had enough fun with sleeping mats for a while now.. :)
