- "Ave Maria", composed by Vladimir Vavilov (May 5, 1925 - March 11, 1973) around 1970, Vavilov himself published and recorded it in 1970 on the Melodiya label with the ascription "Anonymous". It is believed that organist Mark Shakhin, one of the performers on the "Melodiya" LP, first ascribed the work to Giulio Caccini after Vavilov's death, and gave the "newly-discovered scores" to other musicians.
Played on a Berlin reed organ that was made in Berlin, Ontario Canada in 1897.
I am visiting this video again after a year. I am still thrilled by the performance. What a great rendition of a sublime piece of music!
I just acquired an Estsey reed organ and it plays beautifully.
Goodness me , this is so ethereal. Full of sadness and beauty. Thank you as always Rodney for your beautiful playing.
It lends itself very well for use at a (traditional) funeral.
Thank you for this sorrowful excursion around the circle of fifths. Multiple repetitions are needed to observe your fingerings/substitutions as well as your (very) musical interpretations. So gratifying. I also appreciate the commumity you have built over the years. Your deep faith (hymns) touches me as well. God BLESS you, Mr. Jantzi.
My personal favorite Ave Maria, sounds phenomenal on a reed organ
Thanks, Rodney! It turned out that I studied at a music school, which the author of this composition graduated from. This vinyl record is really amazing! And it's a wonderful idea to play it on a reed organ! Now I also want to play this Ave Maria on my organ (fisharmonia).
👏🎹👏. Greetz from the Netherlands.
Good to see that you're still using that old berlin organ.
Beautiful!
Your range of expression is absolutely exquisite in this performance! Great use of the treadles, knee levers, and on-the-fly stop pulling!
I will always listen and re-listen anything you play on the Berlin! Incredible video as always.
Ah man, I love your channel. Thanks for doing what you do.
That instrument especially. It's really something when you open that thing up and let 'er rip, heh.
Hey Rodney! Sorry if any requests here are inappropriate, but is there any chance you'll play the Air from Bach's Suite No. 3 someday? :)
