      @@ReedOrgans In the beginning it sounds so celeste-like ! How does it compare with the Berlin Organ? I would like to buy one ... even a sample set will do ! Can you get in touch with some studio that samples pipe organs, how much would that cost ? I suppose less than shipping all over to Romania !

    Rodney- you have inspired my love for reed organs. I got the change to play one on a field trip to farm of america when i was in 1st grade. Now I am 12 years old and I just Bought a reed organ! I am probably one of the only 12 years old interested in reed organs in probably the whole world. I love your videos!

    When you play a hymn on a reed organ I'm reminded of Henry F. Lyte's words, "Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee". I've never heard anyone, not online nor in real life, play more touching and with greater reverence.

      Whenever I'm playing these old hymns is when I feel so close to the Lord...wishing I played better than I do...I will one of these days, but not here on planet earth! (have both rotators and biceps torn, are totally unfixable, so am unable to play for too long as my pain becomes unbearable!)

      @JenniferLeung69 8 лет назад

      You're right. People use to see that a reed organ is inferior to a pipe organ but I find the sound of this reed organ truly impressive! Thanks for sharing. One question. Does this organ suck the air through the reeds or blow it?

    • @ReedOrgans
      @ReedOrgans  8 лет назад

      Jennifer Leung - thanks! This one sucks the air through the reeds, mostly all Canadian and American made reed organs will use the suction principal.

    • @JenniferLeung69
      @JenniferLeung69 8 лет назад

      Rodney Jantzi Thanks for the clarification. I'm from Holland and I learned that the German reed organ uses the the blowing principal. Interesting, those different techniques.

      I live in the Rhymney Valley I am a retired Piano Tuner repairer. I also leant about organs from my Uncle who was a church organist for nearly 60 years He used to repair and tune organs as he was a trained to work on organs during the 1920`s. I have worked on most of the Organs in the local church`s in the Valleys ( Rhymney, Merthyr, Shirowy, Ebbw and Cynon Valleys). I don't have any videos sorry I have only had a digital camera for the last 12 months. I think I was the last person in Wales doing these beautiful instuments

      I didn't realize you were in Europe. Well, if I could get my organ to you carrying it on my back I would bring it to you, but unfortunately it won't be leaving the house let alone the country so I guess I'm stuck with continuing to try and find someone here in the USA to work on it. All my best. Cheers.

  • @zachlafleur6651
    @zachlafleur6651 7 лет назад +1

    Sounds great to swell here Rodney! I see that early on, you coupled the great to swell manuals, but not the swell to great, then later featured uncoupled manuals and featured different stops. Now, on this reed organ, even though it has two manuals (sort of rare in reed organs), you still have to pump the two foot pedals to draw the air through the reeds, so if you had the pedal board for notes, it would have to have a separate air supply (these are really rare, but Hanover Horton Historical Society Organ Museum has at least two of these in there)! O Store Gud is a really transcendent hymn for many Christian faiths and in my Roman Catholic Faith we sing it to How Great Thou Art (a hymn about God, Nature, and especially His salvific value of His Son Jesus)! One of Stuart K. Hine's greatest Swedish works, I will agree! Some may say it is too Protestant sounding, but nonetheless, is great for unity within most all Christian denominations.

    • @ReedOrgans

      I'm not sure if there would be any that would be similar to the Berlin, but there were a large number of Dominion organs that were shipped to Europe that have many similar models, identical actions and voicing.

    I am surprised to see the draw stop follow a curve .

    • @ReedOrgans
      @ReedOrgans  9 лет назад

      Keith Green - The stops mounted on a curved jamb was the signature for W. Doherty reed organs to make them feel more like a pipe organ. They were successful at selling the idea, but practically with each stop pulling out at a different angle makes it a little harder to make a quick change than if it was flat. Thanks for commenting!
