  • Everybody knows Goldeneye for the N64 is awesome, but what about some of the other Bond games? Here's the 10 best James Bond games I've come across.

    Bond fans keep things civil because they are true gentlemen and will instead settle disputes with a PP7 duel as God intended.

      I prefer Licence to Kill - Slappers Only, but yes. Goldeneye Multiplayer is how we Bond fans settle disputes.

    Another cool list would be Bond inspired games. Obviously Hitman 1-3 fit the bill, but games like Alpha Protocol, MGS 3, and even the Just Cause series have their fair share of Bond influence. Heck, throw Gex in there for good measure. Would be cool to compare them to the official games, and maybe what the actual Bond games could learn from them and vice-versa.

    Great ranking. I would have put Quantum Of Solace PS2 in the top 10 rather than the Game Boy Advance Everything Or Nothing, since the PS2 version of Quantum is pretty much a different game than the PS3/Xbox 360 version, which quite a lot of people prefer.

    • @stephenjarvis534

      Thanks for the comment. I've heard good things about the PS2 version. I wish I had access to it to try it out, as I'd love to play some of the other levels that weren't included (like the Boat Docks from Quantum).

    Most of the Bond movie rankings reference the importance of "Goldeneye" the game. Since I am not a gamer it was nice to watch your video and get an explanation about its popularity. It certainly looks immersive and it looks like a good time. "From Russia With Love" looks even more fun because of its retro style.

    • @stephenjarvis534
      @stephenjarvis534  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks. Russia is worth playing just to have Connery back and experience some new 60s-inspired content, but I also think it's genuinely a good game. No length of video can do GoldenEye 007 for the N64 justice for the impact it had on the industry, so all I can do is express my feelings on it. Since the game has finally reappeared on Xbox and Switch, I've gone through it several times, and I only fall in love with it more and more.

      @@stephenjarvis534 after such a great response I hate to ask for another, but what impact do you think Goldeneye had on the popularity of the Bond franchise overall? I would think most of those playing video games were not Bond fans per se

    • @stephenjarvis534
      @stephenjarvis534  Месяц назад

      @bucksdiaryfan You're correct in your assumption. I think GoldenEye's biggest impact was by being the introduction of a whole new generation to James Bond as a concept. Speaking personally, I was aware of GoldenEye 007 before I ever saw a Bond film, and many my age who played games have a similar story. I'm not sure Bond as a film franchise needed it at the time, but certainly, the subsequent Bond games would never have happened if GoldenEye had flopped, and many of the 20-40 crowd consider it essential to their development as Bond fans.

    This is a genuinely solid ranking! Of course Everything or Nothing would be #1 with GoldenEye 1997 at #2. It's usually those or NightFire that often battle it out for fan favourite.
    Now, if you're curious... I'm Agent Under Fire and NightFire. All the way. What GoldenEye 1997 is to some fans, those two are for me. No other game succeeds at being interactive Bond Adventures, let alone First Person ones, more than those two (though NightFire has the edge due to being more refined than its predecessor). As for other personal favourites...
    After playing a bit of it through the 1964 emulator package, GoldenEye 1997 is also a fantastic game that captures the feel and intensity of a James Bond-style gunfight even though it's not my first choice (Again, Agent Under Fire and NightFire), whilst Everything or Nothing I unfortunately first played during my autistic hate period and was baffled by, especially when Willem Dafoe's villain character entered and revealed that he wants revenge for Max Zorin, thus tying in with one of the worst Bond films and turning me off. But then I decided to revisit it and just play the Pre-Title level. And then I did it again on Agent difficulty to get the Gold medal. And then I did it again and again on 00 Agent difficulty so I could go Platinum and unlock the "Golden Gun" cheat. And then I did it again and again and again and again and again to beat my personal records and discover the proper way to pull off Bond moves and I now realise that going Third Person was the right move for a truly splendid follow up to Agent and NightFire. Ain't being an adult and finally getting over your crippling teenage flaws grand? :)

    My top five, in order from favorite to least favorite:
    Everything or Nothing
    From Russia with Love
    Nightfire
    Agent Under Fire
    GoldenEye

    Something about Bloodstone and Reloaded, they gave us what the films failed to: Craig's Bond going out on missions. No weak connections to the previous films, no going rogue, no forced family "drama". It's what Skyfall led up to yet EON never delivered. Despite their story issues I consider both games better in the Craig canon than Spectre and (by association of following Spectre) NTTD were.
    Side note great list, QOS and FRWL don't get enough love. The games were great for the downtime between films. Given how long the films take now I just pray IO's game is successful enough to make the games a somewhat regular thing again.

    I must be the only person in the world that thinks 007 legends is an ok game. It’s the only bond game I’ve played, (I was 10 when I played it) and my heart was racing trying not to get caught. I understand people hated the lack of features and two-act missions but I don’t think it’s really that bad. Guess I just have nostalgia for it

    • @stephenjarvis534
      @stephenjarvis534  7 месяцев назад

      I don't think the problem was that it was a mess of a game that made a mockery of everything the franchise is, and I think it’s great that it has its fans out there. However, many people had a hard time not viewing it as a lackluster Call of Duty clone and because if you play any of the other games, you know that Bond is capable of so much more. Even Quantum of Solace and Goldneye Reloaded (also Call of Duty clones) felt different enough to justify their existence. If you can, I'd recommend trying out any of these games (particularly Goldeneye for the N64 that's now available for the Xbox/Switch).

      Goldeneye was re-released the same week as my birthday, so it was like the best unexpected present I could have gotten. I've been tinkering with the idea of doing a full-on review of the game, as I've come to appreciate it far more than I ever have before since playing it constantly on my Xbox.

      I definitely noticed that when I saw footage of the PS1 TWINE. I'm glad we ultimately got a game with an original story though. 3 different versions of the same game (PS1, N64 and Gameboy) is already enough.
