Acrylic Inlay Design on Retainers - Letters

This is how I make acrylic inlay designs for lettering. You can also use this to do names and numbers or... actually any design as long as you are able to draw it with a pencil on the retainer.

I did finally get to watch the rest of the vid. Love how the letters came out so sharp. I don't know about the colors separating, but I sometimes have a few air bubbles in the more narrow parts of the stripes- I grind a little & fill in. I think I'll try pre mixing next time & see if that works better. I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from you. I just recently made a tie-dye using your technique & it came out great the first time! Thanks & keep posting!

Thanks! We print the names for the retainers using a Brother P-Touch labeler, specifically models number PT-1230PC. YOu can connect it to a PC and print all the names and clip art you want. We use the black on clear tape. I used to use tissue paper taped to a regular piece of paper and print out the names using a regular printer then put some scotch tape on and cut it out with a razor blade. The scotch tape was so that the monomer will not make the ink run.

Hope you got to see the rest of it. Salt and pepper works great too, good point. But I mainly use that technique for the inlays with colored monomer. I tend to pre mix the polymer colors, because the colors tend to separate using the salt and pepper inlays.

That makes for a very good looking zebra! I do my zebras in a one step method, doesnt look as clean but it is quicker!

Wish I could change my retainers .. I tried to get solid black or clear retainers, but my ortho said its hard to change the color, now I'm stuck with gum color retainers :( I feel disgusted when I wash 'em and clean 'em
