- The international court of justice, the UN's top court, has laid down a provisional ruling ordering Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah after South Africa, which brought a genocide case against Israel to the court, requested additional emergency measures.

Reading out the court's ruling, its president, Nawaf Salam, said provisional measures ordered by the court in March did not fully address the situation in Gaza now, and conditions had been met for a new emergency order. 'Israel must immediately halt its military offensive' and reopen the Rafah crossing for aid and 'unimpeded access' for fact-finding missions to investigate allegations of genocide

Israel doesn't abide by international and humanitarian law, so surely they won't listen and will continue. The ICJ ruling is legally binding, but it cannot enforce such rulings.

What Israel is doing in Gaza and Rafah is nothing short of criminality. Even if the Court has "no enforcement" provision, it is clear to the entire world, particularly to the enablers of genocide (USA, UK) , that these rulings are extremely serious. The countries that represent the rules-based order (USA,UK) are not above the law and cannot wriggle out of major international court rulings. Israel, as an occupying power, has no automatic right to "defend itself" - as the aggressor on Palestinian land. If Israel's Rafah operation was valid, either to eliminate Hamas or rescue the hostages, then the Court would not have ruled for its immediate cessation.
